  1. hey sam, sorry for late response..very lazy to come to RT these days.. Its not very expensive la..thats a misconception.. Over the weekend, we got the carpet tiles from a warehouse at Defu Lane. For the utility room, we chose tiles that cost $3.80 per pc, total 30 pcs (24 to be used, 6 to be stored for future replacements). So total cost only $114. We bought a tin of glue for $14. Went home, did the installation ourselves (apparently installation costs $250 if we engage a professional to do it!).
  2. hey babe, like what you did with the lights beneath the a/c trunking - very innovative! don't look too shabby as well..
  3. haha thanks kor69.. the boutique hotel thingy never really struck me till you said it. that must be the biggest compliment we've gotten so far. thank you! and the windows were designed by my hb who is peranakan, so i suppose it makes sense..lol.. thanks pinkpetter! yes the kitchen and bathroom have the largest difference (and the largest cost as well)..its hard to pinpoint my favorite place in the house though. i love the hall as i spend so much time on the couch watching telly, but i also love the bathroom and the MBR (bare as it is right now) since i love to sleep i left it to my contractors to remove the fixtures on their own..cannot imagine having to do it on my own! just cleaning and unpacking the house makes me want to peng san already..you are really thanks your nick makes me happy! the total reno cost is around $23k without fixtures & furniture..
  4. oh tpy! good location..lots of amenities! wow you actually did those stuff on your own? so are you planning to start reno soon? i think should be blk 7 ba..haha i dun keep track of the other block numbers but there's only one coffeeshop in the neighbourhood. how come always have dinner at that coffeeshop? u live/work around there? the food's pretty ok, drinks are really pricey and zichar no standard. but as i said, only one coffeeshop so just have to make do..
  5. we'll actually be carpeting the utility room so the tiles are gonna be covered up eventually anyway. is yours a 3-room too? no t-blog? i like to read 3-roomers' t-blogs where's your place? yes, i'm referring to the hongkong zichar, can't remember the exact name. think its famous for their fish head steamboat.
  6. indeed! we were thinking how big it was before we actually realised they had TWO levels! we realised it was a bit difficult to cook dinner after getting home from work so we're now trying to cook on sundays for the weekdays. like last night, we cooked a few dishes and stored them in the fridge for mon-wed. may need to fine tune this arrangement. but for now, think it works better than rushing home to cook dinner..
  7. thanks babe.. thanks! no changes to the utility floor, just a few rounds of cleaning that made the difference.. yes i will! can try the neil road zi char i mentioned..tons better than the zi char at the coffeeshop below my block. i haven't eaten at the tg pagar market yet leh..we're trying our best to have our meals at home..save $$! btw, we went to the jln bt merah NTUC. omg you're right - its mega!
  8. welcome to RT, fellow 3-roomer! do put up pics and good luck with the reno!
  9. thanks sammy.. the common room is our recreation room. hb is using the utility room as his office. we've installed blinds at both the hall & common room windows, the blinds were up when we took the pic but its the same as the blinds you see in the hall. thanks rondy, we've already moved in! will try out the western place at maritime house like you've suggested soon..last night we tried out the hongkong zi char along neil road. pretty good beef and sam lo hor fun! thank you! thanks pcomaster..planning credit all goes to hb. i'm just in charge of buying stuff hahaha...the door and gate were custom made (but still cheaper than what our contractor quoted us for). thanks gals_mama! we spent the most on our bathroom so yes, its probably what people like the most.. thanks emiahma! very flattered to hear that you wanna ask your parents to redo their place after seeing ours! *blush* yep we shifted the common room door so we could put our tv console along that wall..most 3-rooms will have their tvs at the window which wasn't what we wanted. with our current layout, the tv viewing distance is a bit short but still ok..
  10. thanks zelly! will try & put up more pictures soon..the place is still pretty bare as i haven't started on my "decor" phase yet. that will prob take some time.. thanks gimz! the red gate was designed by hb, inspired by the golden gate bridge in san francisco (our favorite city). and yes, the windows have been a talking point for family members who have visited us.. for now, storage in the kitchen is sufficient. but we think we'll run out of space soon, i suppose we just have to buy/store less stuff! luckily we've got a big fridge.. thanks infinitie..yes the carpentry worked out well, we're happy with the workmanship..think you are too right? thanks titanax, that was purely hb's idea to maximise the bathroom space..we have an open-shelf cabinet on the other side of the wall which makes use of the gap between the pipes. shall put up pics of this soon.. thanks! i know, we love our bathroom too! in fact, i love our whole house. its just such a great feeling to finally be able to have a place of your own, especially one which you have thought so long and hard about. our kitchen prep area is pretty compact. yes, without the top cabinets, we lose the ability for undercabinet lighting. so far, we've relied on the light from the hood and a standing lamp that is placed behind the sofa which can be turned to shine on the prep area (and then be turned back to shine over the sofa when needed). actually, i would suggest installing track lights which can be directed to shine at different work areas of your countertop. i would have gone down this road if my hb liked track lights a little more..
  11. Hi all! Finally managed to get off our lazy butts and take some photos to try to match our very first set of pictures before reno began. So here's a Before & After:
  12. oh so that is the egg box la...felt weird when i tried putting eggs in it. ok shall start using that then..its now currently just stuffed into one of the compartments like yours.. ya not a big fan of dodging the crowds when trying to get my groceries..they are opening a new kopitiam just below the blocks leh! you all very lucky. maybe should petition them to open a new shopping mall. lol! hahaha cos i like the smell of kirei kirei..dun wanna buy another brand cos use very loonnng and i'll never get to replace it..
  13. wah so nice of you ..but its ok you keep it for spare la. i'll buy one.. i'm referring to a transparent plastic box (with open top) that they left in one of the racks on the door. not sure what that is for? for now, i left my eggs in their original plastic tray.
  14. muahaha if he had left, i think you need to change your name too. i put $20 on him to stay..lol. i had a strong feeling he wouldn't go, not this season anyway. ♫ his armband proved he was a red, torres, torres ♫ sorry sam, for hijacking your thread..
  15. hey, the small scoop is a good idea! i shall go get one too..hehe.. btw, do you know if the plastic thingy they left in the fridge is meant to hold eggs? cos ours don't seem to have any egg tray leh..
  16. i like 24 hours..then can shop when everyone's asleep! imagine an empty NTUC!! lol..i like. are you a pinnaclet? i can't remember + you got no tblog..if the outlet is too big, means many people, means no good. aiya we're just being fussy. the only kirei kirei i saw is the body foam, no hand foam. i already went twice - monday and tuesday. both times dun have...until now, i dun have hand soap at home. thanks babe, your turn coming in no time! eh dun pressure la...haha..i can't remember where i threw my card reader. plus i can barely find the energy to look for nice angles to take photos. plus, our dining table's not there yet and so is our wardrobe. we eat on the sofa and live out of boxes until next weekend when our wardrobe arrives. dining table - no end in sight yet. very hard to find one i like.. no ice cream for me, thank you very much. my hb try & "contaminate" the freezer by suggesting we buy ben&jerrys last night. omg have to stay away!!
  17. i was just mentioning to my hb last night that hopefully one day they will make the NTUC a 24-hour one (we used to have one in Whampoa at our old place). in terms of size, yes it is a little cramped and would be good if they expanded. the only complaint i have is they never sell the kirei kirei hand soap!!!
  18. yes it is! plus our fridge is so huge (we have same fridge right?)..i like to fill up the freezer section especially..
  19. hey guys, sorry for the brief MIA..yes we have officially moved in last Friday. It has been a very tiring and strenuous five days. Hb and I are still trying to recover from the cleaning and unpacking! We still have one room filled with boxes which have not been unpacked. We cooked our first meal last night, we've already walked twice to the Tg Pagar NTUC to buy groceries. Pleasantly surprised that they open till 11pm daily. We're very happy with our place..finally we have a home after years of renting and moving.. Anyway, will try to take some pics soon!
