It has been years that we have try to warn consumers. Salute to you SamTheMan. I went quiet after the saga with EL over the warranty and time has proven that i was right. I know all this bosses from Montella, Spieces, EL and Sense Art. Try to make sense with the consumers here really headache. Feel bad for those folks that lost their deposits on these companies.

Check with them if they issue any warranty certificate for their leather against cracking and peeling. Minimum warranty period should be at least two years. When even sometimes the leather expert cannot tell if the cowhide is split leather or top grain, it is always safer to buy from reliable dealers and knowing the tannery which the cowhides are from. I am sure your peeling leather sofa did not last more then two years.

You can check with the dealer where you got your settee from. They should be able to firm it up. Usually it is done bottom up, removing the staples at the bottom of the sofa and change the foam inside. Leather upholstery are stitch before they are dress to the foam and structure.

Very Bad Experiece With Excellence Home Gallery
Jeanius replied to hsannaung's topic in Home Furnishings
I noticed that most complaints here are from companies that always participate in those furniture shows at the expo throughout the year. Doing business in Singapore is so easy. -
wwazow, as you have just joined the forum 3 days ago, will you tell your story as what you claim here 'dishonest' sales people.
-
I think this are from competitors trying to sabotage the sales people, yeah.

I have been trying to research Hilker, but there is not much information in the www. What i can see from their website is that most of their partners in Europe are tag 'coming soon' and the website was created in 2011. I tried searching in furnituretoday.com which you can find out what furniture brands are doing today and their history but there is none on Hilker1888. Anybody knows anything more about Hilker1888?? I saw them in the China furniture show last year. I will try to find out more when i visit the shows next week. Maybe you can try calling the German numbers listed on their website or leave a massage on Ernst Hilker facebook wall. I think it is worth the effort if you had paid more then 10k for the sofa.

Most importantly when buying a leather sofa is to know the grade of leather which you are paying for and have it written on the sales order clearly. Leather do not peel even you do not maintain it regularly. Post your sofa pics for all to see so as to know that you are genuiely deceived by Castilla.

Just to put this tread back on the top for all who wants to know more about leather. Happy New 2012 Year to all! May you all make wise decision and not get con this year. Beware of shops closing down or changing their names after CNY 2012. This is usually what happen when shops you visited over promise and under deliver and all warranty made during your purchase becomes void. "GONG XI FA CAI 2012"

What happen to our dear friend from EL?
-
Beautiful leather. Like what Dave says, that's what we meant by Full Top Grain Cowhide Leather. A fine genuine cowhide leather needs little maintenance.
-
Oh yes sorry, i am suffering from amnesia, please do quote this post for all to read again. 1) What type of animal is your 'Bovine' leather? If your answer is cowhide leather, why called it 'Bovine'? 2) What grade of 'Tuscan leather' are you using? What is the thickness of the article? 3) What does your 5 year warranty covers? Does it cover the upholstery for 5 years from tearing or cracking under normal household use? 4) Where is your factory in Malaysia? I would gladly get your your factory to OEM if it covers 5 year for leather upholstery. Thnak you. Hear from you soon.

If you take time to read through the posts, i am sure you will learn and understand what has been going on in the tread. If we are "competitors", we will not even care to share what we know about leathers and the industry ethics. If we are indeed competitors, i will gladly review the company/brand i am representing here. Reading just the latest post will not give you the full picture of whats been translated earlier. We don't argue here, we share comments.

Dear All In one of the earlier post by EL, EL claims that they have nothing to hide. When we put some questions to him, he accused us of being affected by their sales, being jealous and totally avoid answering them. Do read all post here and we are sure you will learn more about furniture business ethics. We will make this tread here very interesting and knowlegeable to all.

Will check with Zolano here in KL, if they provide the 5 years warranty for leather upholstery.
-
I just got a massage from skylimit that he hasn't receive the warraty card yet.??
I am seriously considering to buy from their factory if it really warranties the leather upholstery for 5 years. That's unheard of in this industry.
-
Hi Dave, EL claimed that they have their own factory and buying their leather from 'Tuscany' / Brazil. I am a buyer and i want to give them more business if they are willing to OEM our designs with the 5 years warranty and it is not intended for Singapore market anyway. As i am always in KL, i might want to visit their factory which EL claimed that they have here. I am sure they will want more business for their export business. I have not come across any factories giving 5 years warranty for leather upholstery, so it makes business sense to buy from them.
-
Hi EL Please read through the posts here and learn something and don't BS others with your little knowledge about leather. I don't know what you are writing about above. In my posts here, like minded people are sharing what we know about leather and hope that readers are not deceive by Sales people just wanting to make a sales. So what's wrong with you, you feel that we are sharing to much info which differs from what you know, is it. As i have said before, you are so patetic. If EL is offering a 5 year warranty for their mid-low end sofas, that is great, if we are giving a 5 year warraty on upholstery for our sofas, i will definitly want the world to know about it. My question to you are; 1) You use 'Bovine' leather, so is it 100% Top Grain Cowhide, if it is, why use the term 'Bovine' leather? 2) 5 years warranty, does it cover the upholstery? What are the exclusions or inclusions that you had mentioned before? 3) Tuscany leather, what is the tannery name? 4) Your company factory, what is the address? I might consider buying from your factory if they offer us a 5 year warranty for their upholstery. Send me the address so that i can visit since i am in Malaysia. You have never answer any of these questions and you claim that your company has nothing to hide, a whole lot of bulls there. By the way, no matter what thickness of cowhide leather you used, if it is not 100% Top Grain Cowhide leather and if it is not processed by a reputable tannery, it will not last. The PU on the surface will start to peel in a matter of time.
-
So Twins, after reading the treads here, you finally bought your settee. Congrats. Maybe you would like to share with consumers here about the warranty.
-
Hi EL Don't give me all the bulls. I ask you several questions here but you have never reply and you just go on and on that we are jealous of your company. Any fools will know better after reading all the treads here. You are like a snake, slitering your way out from questions put to you. Just answer all the questions if you have nothing to hide. Don't BS here. You do not even have your own factory, so why talk about where you get your leather. As i said before, i am staying in KL, Puchong, you have said in one of your treads that your factory is in KL, i assume it is in Sungei Buloh, just put the address for all to see and i will go verify. Emulate you, you must be crazy.

Just to add on, this test will also not be able to tell you if it is split leather. I have some split leather samples and with advanced technology, they feel like top grain leather. Time can only tell if it wears as well as top grain. Leather peeling is actually the PU layer that is sprayed on bonded leather or split leather surface. It is like using normal emulsion paints to paint an exterior wall. With technology, they now have wheather shield paint, if they have it for walls, they can also have something for sofa upholstery. So the only assurance is to buy from reputable firms which warranties the upholstery should something happens to it 18 mths down the road.
