Reno Day +1 (25-03-2010 / Hacking - Day 1)

Some early renderings I've done with Google SketchUp Kitchen Study

Yes, it has been torturous waiting. Things are finally moving. Yay! As for the reno plan, won't really have any open concept per se but will be replacing the kitchen and study room walls with glass. Just to create an illusion of space. And yes, pretty major overhaul. Our MBR toilet counter top is a lot shorter than yours. That annoying column. The door doesn't help too. We are taking away the door and replacing it with another that swings outwards. Estimated quotation is almost $60k

And finally, the Kitchen The view from directly outside the kitchen. This wall will also be removed. This will be the dining area (next to the kitchen). More photos to come once hacking commences.

Living Room
-
Bedroom 3 The view from outside the room; We'll be removing this wall. This room will be converted to a study.
-
Bedroom 2 This is gonna be our guest/baby room.
-
The common toilet Everything's gotta go.
-
The MBR toilet is pretty small. The door is literally fraction of an inch away from the toilet seat when swung in. Kinda poor design decision. We're taking out the door to remedy this problem.

We're back! Gotten our keys on 10/03/10 and renovation's starting soon. Hacking begins on 25/03/10. I guess its a good time for some "before" pictures then; MBR

Hi samgalz, greetings. We haven't been updating the blog on the account that we were still waiting for our keys. But we are back from our hiatus. Getting our keys soon. Completion date set on the 10th March. Yay! Can't believe we had waited nearly 5 month since we signed the OTP. C'mon HDB, shake a leg. Yes, completely understandable the urge to start early. Nothing kiasu about it. The more info gathered, the more informed the decisions made. At least that's the way I see it. We are pretty much done with our planning stages. Purchases are at 80% complete. Do keep us updated on your progress. Happy hunting. On our end; 25 days to go....

Ah, everything looks nice. Just wondering, no curtains or blinds?
-
Woah, your reno is almost done. Haven't started our's yet. Are you guys moving in soon?
-
Woah! You're on the homestretch. Finishing up soon I see. Everything looks great. Can't wait to see the final "product".
-
Nice!
-
Oh, not sure if you'll have any trunking running down along the walls. Was just wondering if you did, how is your ID going to hide them.
-
Very nice! Great updates! Are you making any kind of provisions to hide the trunking coming down the walls?

Hi Ve_ve, Bought the oven from Harvey Norman for $1670. Retailing at $1899. I've seen posts on other forums indicating neighbourhood stores may sell it for a couple of dollars less . Regardless, don't settle for the sticker price. Gotta haggle. That, I leave to my wife .

The MBR bathroom basin we've bought; (That's not our bathroom of course. Its from another blog.) Its IKEA's HOLLVIKEN. We were looking for something with generous dimensions and this fits the requirement perfectly. Aesthetically, we are very pleased. It looks like a farmhouse sink. The basin measures 80cmx55cm. Hopes this remedies the effects of my careless splashing .

Thanks . Actually, we're also working with a strict budget. But we figured since this will be our home for a long time why not surround ourselves with things that make us happy. So we decided to really splurge on certain things and skimp on others. That's why we're keeping our woodworks to a minimum. I think its possible, with a little planning, to successfully blend expensive and inexpensive solutions. Would love to share the final tally later on if we meet our projected budget to prove that renovation need not cost several arms and legs. Keeping our fingers tightly crossed . Yes, do invite my wife and I too for a "tour". Hehe . Kidding, really.

Greetings! Wow, fantastic. Got to know my neighbours already . Can't really remember where our living room faces. Only been to the place twice. Will be there this sunday though for an inspection/measurement taking. Quite a few of us renovating around the same time eh? Hehe, i hope the other residents don't get too upset Yes, we're trying our very best to go slow with the purchases. Just excited I guess. New home. Can't wait to fill it up with creature comforts. Looks like you have completed quite a bit of your renovation, would really love to see the process/progress. Start a t-blog . Best of luck on getting your place ready by Christmas, neighbour.
