  1. Actually, whether to use glossy or not will really depend on your personal preference and your overall design theme. Whether it is china tiles or spain tiles, the price is about the same psf. The only difference between the two is the size of the tiles. Spain tiles only have up to 450x450 whereas China homo has up to 800x800. Quality for both is similar if you are looking at prices >SGD$2.80. If you are going for the matt look, there are a varieties of colors you can choose from. Most of the tiles in the market today are from China. Go for the >SGD$3.20 range and you can be quite assured about its quality. Or if you don't mind the darker colors, Spain tiles give a really good feel on the feet! I am using light gray matt for my toilet. In a place where there is constant contact with water, there is hardly any stains on the floor. Maintenance for matt flooring is also quite easy. No worries about slippery floor or water marks when mopping as well. As for glossy, if you are going for a spacious look, glossy is definitely the one to go. Cos of the high reflective surface, it make the rooms look bigger than it actually is. You can check out some of the comments I wrote on the various tiles on my blog for more information. Didn't write much for matt tiles though... cos we only considered them for the wet areas like the kitchen and the toilets. Hope it helps.
  2. woah~~~! this is surprising indeed. what sparked the investigations or research for the authenticity of the tooth relic? Why now and not before the temple was built?
  3. nope... no flickering shadows with mine either! I have one in every room of my home, and there is no problems. In fact, no shadows at all. So dun fret over it. It is the best investment I have ever made! Having a ceiling fan really helps, especially on those hot humid nights. just remove the lightbulb and then there will be no lights liow loh.
  4. Is the water level in the bowl ok? Ensure that it is fully covering the hole, else the smell could also be coming from there. Some times, when the higher floors flush, the water flows down so fast, it actually creates some sort of suction that sucks some of the water from your bowl. I hope you know what I mean. Just ensure that the water level in the bowl fully covers the hole... no gap between water surface and hole and the smell will not be coming out liow !!
  5. prosperity to who? To the people on top ONLY or to the country as a whole? I have not seen any increments to my salary in years! So much talk about the economy doing better, yet the salary is the same even when changing jobs. If there is any progress, I am definitely not seeing any from the ground where I stand.

Usually about $70-80 each for the washer base and fridge base... works out to $230 for your cabinet base. How many feet of cabinets you getting? For my EA, 14 feet of cabinet base is <$200 5 RELOCATION OF INLET/OUTLET PIPING FOR SINK AND WASHING MACHINE $ 220 This one is also expensive. My contractor did mine for only $60 each 6 SUPPLY/INSTALL SOLID LAMINATED KITCHEN CABINET (BOTTOM=12FTS) $ 1,200 Are your cabinets bottom only? this price is a little above average... but ok if you can accept it. 7 SUPPLY/INSTALL SOLID POSTFORM WORKTOP FOR KITCHEN CABINET $ 250 post form require some maintenance... are you sure you want postform? 8 SUPPLY LABOUR TO INSTALL COOKER HOOD, HOB ,OVEN ,SINK & TAP $ 50 9 TO DISMANTLE AND DISPOSAL EXISTING KITCHEN CABINET $ 150 WHOLE HOUSE AND GENERAL 1 DEBRIS REMOVAL & HACKING OF FLOOR SCREED AND WALL SCREED $ 880 2 HAULAGE OF SAND SERVICE TO BE CARRIED OUT $ 650 this one is on the high side. NO GST,NETT TOTAL $ 10,280 Your renovation is super minimal based on your quotation. So the pricing is about there. Except for the few items I highlighted, your quote is quite okay. what you need to find out is what brand of laminates are you getting for your cabinets? what brand of homo tiles are you getting and what size? The larger tiles costs more to lay (eg 800x800) Are you going to do a replacement of your water piping to copper or stainless steel? How bout electrical works? Not doing any re-wiring or repositioning of your lighting points or socket points? How bout painting works? Not going to paint your house? do a search of the forum for other people's quotation to do a comparison with yours. I have not touch any quotations for a long time... I may have missed out something that I did not ask in the above lists of questions. Hope it helps
  7. why does it matter how people look at your kitchen. it is YOUR kitchen. as long as you are comfortable, it is okay with what ever you want to use.
  8. the purpose of the laminates is to protect the raw wood from moisture and water spillage... especially in the kitchen! if you can see raw wood, what is the point of putting the laminates in the first place. It is not good workmanship as long as the wood is not properly covered or protected. Period. No two ways about it. Best if you got picture to show. Then can tell for sure if it is good or bad workmanship. If your guts instincts tell you it is bad workmanship, reject the work. Withhold payment till the works are corrected! If you still want to be sure... one sure way to check is to go down to IMM. Check out all the displays they have there. Showroom pieces are usually made with reasonable workmanship. If the works you get at home is not at all like those laminated wood cabinets in the show rooms, then you know for sure the work done in your home is shoddy.
  9. take a picture and show it to us... then we can tell if it is bad workmanship or not by rite cannot see the wood at all, PVC or not.
  10. when people say that, I will always quote the music from the prince of egypt... "It will when you believe...!"
  11. ha ha... so... kay poh a bit... what is your decision? Gas? or Electric?
  12. aiyoh... want to hide the face, go to the net and find some smilies to mask it lah why delete till so ugly? Sad leh... such nice pictures and you deface till like that! or use a censored sign like this --> to hide the face mah
  13. Congratulations! And so begins the exciting journey of ID hunting, renovation, wedding planning and the AD itself! Congratulations! Welcome to the club of MID
  14. hmm... that is a nice song... will try to DL it tonite
  15. wah... in this day and age, still got people doing that ah? reminds me of the time when my grandma was still around and we will start a charcoal fire to get some nice stews or soup going. Especially when she has a whole bunch of mahjong kakis coming over for a game. She will usually cook up a storm so that all of them can play the whole day! And the fire can last a really long time! Wow... I am amazed. ok... sorry... off topic. Back to topic. Considering the cost of electricity vs gas, for the same task like boiling water, using electricity will definitely cost more than using gas. Especially with the rising cost of electricity climbing faster than gas, you really got to plan well for this. If you are a light cook like most modern newly weds, then you can consider using electricity. Makes the kitchen look so new and sophisticated with the latest induction hobs that are on the market today. If you are a heavy cook like myself, then using gas would be cheaper in the long run. But do bear in mind... if you have kids in future, there will be lost of boiling and cooking to cater to your child's needs. So it may not be viable if you are married, have no kids and are planning for some in the near future.
  16. Side track a bit... I was also thinking of engaging him for my AD shoot... but his packages are expensive! Getting a one day shoot with him is enuff to afford some of the full bridal packages at Tanjong Pagar liow. Dun have that kind of budget sia. Your pics must be very very nice! How was the album design? Did you go for the full page one or the digital/magazine design one? erm... got online samples to see or not
  17. yep... I will definitely go there to get my package if I drive. It is worth a look. Go early, like before dinner time, around 2-3 pm, the crowd is ok. If you can go before lunch even better. Some of the girls there are really pushy if they know that you are from Singapore. So just look first and see if you like their gowns before looking at their packages. Remember, you have to be firm. we went there like 3-4 times over a span of 6 months, and each time a different girl approached us, and each time their pitch is the package is good for the weekend only. Dun buy into that. See if you like then talk deal. Else, go for a good cheap meal at the nearby market also shiok! wah... unker rich sia... Chris Ling photography package not cheap leh!

  19. if you drive, then it will definitely be cheaper as compared to taking cab all the way. We did a calculation and found it really not worth our while. Go for it if you think it is worth the money. The hassle is just a small inconvenience if you are driving. It is the package and the service you get that counts. For myself, I do not drive. And I stay in the east. So taking a cab to the check point, then changing to the cab in JB and back the same way.... each trip is > SGD $ 40. Plus the super long queue at the customs at JB during the weekends, usually takes half a day just to reach the BS. Driving will is so much faster, even when clearing the customs on both end. Not really worth it if you add these additional transport cost and time taken to travel to and fro to the package. $40 can frigging fill > 1/2 a tank of petrol liow loh!
  20. not chi-na... more to taiwanese... very quick way of making gowns. In photographs they look ok. But when you see them up close, the workmanship is not very nice. But if you like their indoor themes, going for the more expensive packages will allow you to select from a wider range of better gowns. So far, even in JB, no one can beat the photography works of Venus. If I had a car, I would definitely take their packages. For the same price i spend here, I get so much much more in terms of package!
  21. heh heh... can share that list?
  22. try a hot cup of milo... make it a concentrated cup of milo with lots of condense milk. Helps to clear some of the lightheadedness you are feeling now.
