My poor hubby was at the flat the whole afternoon and now to see to the finishing touches of the plumber and electrician. I cook dinner liao - Borlotti bean penne pasta with roasted pine nuts and home-made french onion soup. Waiting for him to come home .... hope its soon. I smell like an oily onion now! Anyway we have yet to pack! Oh noo ... the present house is in the mess and we got to pack cos the movers are coming over this Tuesday morning. I wonder if its possible Die die got to finish packing I guess. This saturday we got to go in to do the overall cleaning for the new flat to ready it for our stuff and moving in. It's so weird. Meaning next week, I have to figure out how to get to work from the new house! So fast! I am not quite mentally adjusted yet

Hey Rondy Yes the kitchen is quite bright - cos of the 4 windows across and we changed it to clear glass from the old tinted glass. I think during the morning, there is abit of sun coming in, so probably good for drying laundry, and planting some herbs. But maybe we might get some bamboo blinds to keep some sun out but enable the wind to get into the kitchen too. But depend on what hubby thinks. Maybe the white tiles and white lower cabinets plays a part too?

Here are more photos to our kitchen ... View of the white lower cabinets stretch from the kitchen entrance. We have the inner smaller drawers for cutlery, cover up by the larger drawer so that from the exterior, it looks less complicated Or course, we will buy the drawer dividers from the Ikea Rationelle range to fit into our drawers. It was only later that we realise that this design has lesser bones in the structure as there are no multiple small drawers and cabinet shelves (found in traditional kitchen designs)- meaning more actual space to put larger stuff and possible more stuff in the given space.

Hey Mickey. Thanks for the compliment! We actually wanted the handleless and equal drawer sizing look for our cabinets. It helps to make the kitchen look less complicated compared to traditional carpented designs where there are many small drawers, and cabinets dotted along the cabinet stretch. We went to Parkmall one day to look at the more expensive designs. Not that we were buying anything there but we wanted to know how they do their kitchen designing. We went to the shop HUGO to see how they manage with small cutlery. The drawers look huge from the outside, something you see on this website: http://www.venetacucine.it Knowing that most culinary masters have lots of cutlery to work with, we were curious to see how they keep such small items in big drawers. Had to pluck up the courage to push thru' the doors of HUGO showroom and we went to see and opened almost every single drawer under the worktop, sink, hob and larder. Even the sales people did not bother to approach us - I guess they knew that we were not intending to get kitchens from them. But their kitchens were very nice and modern, even the colour selection for the exterior materials. But after that showroom viewing, we really got more possible ideas for our kitchen designs. As for our kitchens, the white by itself was quite plain. Especially when our wall tiles were mainly white too. The burgundy was a last minute decision to inject more colour and 'appetite' into the kitchen. As our kitchen entrance was quite open, visually the lower white cabinets on one side of the wall will make it look spacious and clean. It's only upon entering the kitchen abit that the burgundy comes into play along with the reflection of some light on the laminate from the window. Putting burgundy in the whole kitchen, might make it look smaller as our floor tiles are dark and our kitchen is not as big in the first place (especially after including the laundry area). I guess we were looking to 'balance' out the elements. Have you done up your kitchen? Would love to view the photos when they are done up!

Hey Pinkpetter! Yea they don't allow. when i was told HDB don't allow, in my mind the long white-windows idea went *POOFF* but i guess the current bronze looking horizontal ones still does a better job than the previous old windows which looked really mismatched. Even our contractor, Andy, looked, smiled and shake his head at the funny window combinations in the house.

Hey Pinkpetter! Yes we have our tall kitchen cabinets in high gloss Burgundy. This is for our larder unit and oven unit. However, on the opposite wall of that is the low kitchen cabinets all in high gloss white where we have the kitchen sink and induction hob. I haven't seen the photos of the white cabinets fully done up yet but judging from the burgundy ones which were almost complete, I am guessing it looks really nice (hopefully) As for our bathroom, yes its quite long. I am used to square bathrooms. So when the toilet and shower area were combined in our new flat, I was having abit of difficulty visualising how it would be and wonder if its going to be long and narrow, with not much walking space. I guess I have to wait until Saturday to see the vanity top together with the shower screen that was installed today, and would then have a better gauge.

Hi everyone again! Today the carpenters were in to do the kitchen cabinets and the bathroom vanity top. My hubby took some photos and he took some videos too. The tall burgundy cabinets look awesome!!! I can't imagine how the lower white cabinets will look once they are done up with the sink and hob. As for the bathroom vanity top, the small lilies laminate we chose goes very well with the lighting and wall tiles. SO EXCITEDDDD!! I can't wait to see everything this Saturday .... I will let you know how much my jaw drop then! LOL!! Hubby will post pictures soon Stay tune!! Signing out again....

Hi Everyone!! I am so excited .... Just to mentioned, I saw the photos that my hubby took of our new place ... with the painted walls, lightings on and also the first view of our bathroom and kitchen flooring after the chemical wash. Its wow .... transformed. abit lost for words (guess its my first time doing renovation so this is really eye opener!) I wish I can zoom down tonite to look at it. But I guess I will have to be patient and wait for Saturday where we have more time. I will let my hubby share about this later. And yes I am happy with the Tempur mattress and bedframe purchase. Its more expensive than a normal mattress but we both figured that if you work it out on the lifespan of the mattress, it works out to a tiny amount per day for quality sleep. And oh, we also needed to use up our $300 Takashimaya vouchers and so we did during their promotion. The Ikea Kvist flooring is really a steal! My jaw dropped when I saw the price drop! I am just blessed to have a hubby who is good at 'handyman' stuff (I mean, he build part of the present kitchen himself and he knows his stuff) ... and when he suggested to get it after doing some quick computation, I was quite confident he knew what he was talking about, so we bought it! OK ... I will leave Mr Macbart to share with you more. It is indeed getting very exciting to see the house transformed. Its worth it. I hope all of you who are doing up your house finds it an exciting journey too. signing out for now ....

Good morning everyone! This is mrs macbart! My first post and yes, not very creative in my nickname I have to say I am indeed relief to be able to rest abit at home this weekend. Last few weeks was just going around to shop for what's needed for the house, by mrt, bus and on foot. I have to say, I am glad we got some deals for our mattress and bedframe set, hob, oven, air-con and ceiling fans. We are really happy to have found our contractor .... as it was really mind-boggling to decide who to give our reno job too. I mean they always say you wouldn't know how they are like until they start work on your place. Needless to say we are also really happy for the flat that we got - price, location and condition. I really love the location, the green and heard from my hubby that the neighbours are friendly! Seems like he will be ahead of me in getting acquainted with them before we move in. Stay tune to our blog! I am sure macbart will share his finds and tips. We had our interesting time exploring shops and deals and we think good things must share.
