thanks. actually my ID gave me 2 options. either to plaster up the entire wall or just make a small backing. i prefer a small backing. sorta like a mini feature.

its actually part of the carpentry. we asked the carpenter to do up a small board to fix the tv. coz the window area has a small beam that will obstruct the tv if its installed on the wall

Inverter Air Con: Beware Of High Standby Power

did they state why the heater is on only when temp is above 21? shouldn't the heater only turn on when the ambient temp is low instead of high? -

Inverter Air Con: Beware Of High Standby Power
wolflet replied to DaveLee1688's topic in Electronics & Electricals
I did some digging into this heater issue after the discussion and found this post http://forums.energymatters.com.au/energy-...y/topic594.html The author is using a daikin aircon and states that it also contains a heater that draws 50W at standby. He contacted the manufacturers and was told this "After speaking to the manufacturers, I have discovered the reason is that they have to maintain a minimum temperature of the refrigerant at all times. If the fluid becomes too cool, it increases in viscosity and can damage or severely reduce the life expectancy of the compressor if it is started in that "cold fluid" situation. As a result, in order to be ready to be "instantly activated" the units have a small heater that constantly maintains the fluid temperature. The advice from the manufacturer is that it takes at least 6 hours for the unit to warm the fluid sufficiently to allow a safe start, possibly slightly less on a hot summer day and probably more (ideally 12+ hours) in winter when the unit is very cold. However, to save this constant 50W draw, the air conditioners can be switched off at the switchboard AS LONG AS THEY ARE ALLOWED TO WARM UP FOR AT LEAST 6 HOURS OR PREFERABLY OVERNIGHT BEFORE THEY ARE ACTIVATED." So maybe we can also consider turning on the power to the aircon 6 hours before starting to prevent damage to the compressor? But this may only apply to certain models of daikin and probably not applicable to those being sold in singapore -
now that is a good way to increase your luck

a person's luck can never be at a constant high. Our lives cycles and so does our luck. When u happen to be in a part of your life with very low luck. nothing u do will help.

Inverter Air Con: Beware Of High Standby Power
wolflet replied to DaveLee1688's topic in Electronics & Electricals
valid point. but taking the discussion between d & m into account. from my understanding. M brand aircons are using the R410a gas vs D brand using the older R22 gas. the R22 gas is less cold compared to the R410a (told to me by the aircon salesman) and the R410a gas is more environmentally friendly. since D is using R22 which is less cold, maybe the need for a preheater unit has yet to come up? Considering singapore having such high humidity, even a little chill factor will draw a high condensation rate. If the existence of a preheater unit that draws some power during standby can actually increase the lifespan of an aircon unit, reducing the need to replace, thereby reducing the CO2 production of an item during manufacture. Then it is probably justifiable. only recently has D started using R410a (i'm not sure about the existance of the preheater element though). Also, please enlighten me on the usage of preheater in other makes of air con brands other than D and M. I believe the energy consumption of an air con unit is not just the energy used while running the air con. But it is also not sufficient to just take in the standby energy into consideration. A more accurate gauge of an item's environmental friendliness should take into account the carbon produced from design to manufacture to operation. Just take the hybrid cars for example. The hybrids promise very good fuel economy (2x compared to normal vehicles) but the manufacturing process produces alot of CO2 due to the usage of rare metals in the batteries. So it is actually not as environmentally friendly as promised. I'm not trying to start an argument here, just sharing of ideas. -
Inverter Air Con: Beware Of High Standby Power

i dunno about the inverter units. but back when i was in the navy. condensation in the coil is a main killer of air con. anyone knows whether by switching off the aircon power and in turn turning off the heater. will it cause the condensor unit to have a shorter lifespan? with that, does that mean that saving $50 every mth will cause u to pay 3k for a new aircon unit in a shorter period? 3k equates to about 5 years of condensor life. maybe more research ought to be done on this issue before concluding that the heater is not required and a waste of electricity? my mitsubishi inverter unit has been working well for 8 years with >15hrs usage per day. i believe the aircon unit is capable of more than 5 years of life. -

undermount no discount. go to harbourfront lvl 3. they have a big shop there. just next to escalator. -
more commonly found now are bi-fold and pd doors. pd doors are swing and slide. some say have mechanism problems if not used properly. bi-fold more straightforward. but noisier than pd and takes up slightly more space. but bi fold door mechanism more straightforward. my parent's place have been using it for almost 8 years now with no problems

wow. this thread was quiet for so long i din even know it exist. very interesting stories here. some really freaked me out. let me share my experience at my parent's old place in boon lay. I was very very young. 1-2 years old. and I was thought to be very naughty. keep having bruises. keeps crying etc etc. until 1 day, my parents met this master and he actually said there is something in our house. it is supposed to be some kid spirit which the previous owner kept to bring wealth but forgot to bring him along when they move. the master said the spirit was jealous of me coz i have parents to dote on me etc and thus keep pinching me or cause me to get into accidents so that i will get scolded or punished. then they asked the master's help in getting rid of it. the master say he can just bring it out and let it flow away with the drain water. but my mum felt its very poor thing coz its just a kid. so she ask the master to negotiate with it and let it stay in our house, but dun disturb us, she will buy some titbits as offering every new moon and full moon. since that, we nvr got disturbed and my parents keep striking lottery. sometimes, when my mum forgets to buy offerings, she will feel a tapping on her bed at night while sleeping and she will realise that she forgot to buy offering and buy them the next day. before we move out, we asked a monk to come help move him away. the monk said he will ask a god to come and bring him into heaven. regarding keeping those things out of the house, i heard some pple practice "tying" up the house. they bless the house and hang something at all 4 corners of the house. the 4 items will act as a barrier against all things so they cannot enter. Also, i was told by a master that even if a statue is in the house and properly kai guang, the god will not be in the statue 24/7. so sometimes, spirits can actually hide in the incense urn. so usually pple put some amulets inside the incense urn to ward off spirits. and even if the god is in the house, spirits will still be allowed to pass thru the house as long as they do not disturb the pple inside.
