How Much Can We Save If We Hire A Contractor Instead Of An Id ?
m1ghtym0use replied to purecat's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Alot of people would think they would save alot if they engage a contractor instead of an ID, and even more if they were to engage the various contractors to do each piece of job directly. And frankly, they are right about this. But if you examine it closely, I can assure you the difference is not as much as you thought it would be. The reason is simple, as a single buyer, we do not have the bargaining power. This is not the case for IDs who engage contractors. As such, a contractor might quote $7,000 to the ID as he noes that if he were to charge it lower, the ID might engage his services for future works. The ID will then charge you $12,000, thus earning $5,000 from it. But if you were to engage the contractor directly, he will most likely charge u $10,000 since he noes this is the only time he can earn from you and will not see you again for the next 10 years. As can be seen by the above scenario, the savings you got is $2,000. You would need to decide for yourself whether it is worth it to save the $2,000. My suggestion is that if the renovation is a minor one or if you know exactly what you want and when to do what job , then it makes sense to engage the contractors directly. -

I think all existing customers of Ah Soon should try to calm down. I am sure rock has your interests in mind when he questions the intentions of Jaskel. I guess it is human nature to be cynical about good things especially when it seems too good to be true. I for one, also does not believe in free lunch in this world, but I do believe that there are times where fellow forummers will step forward and lend a helping hand. Rock probably feels that the existing customers of Ah Soon are feeling totally frustrated and might just grab any log that floats in the river of agony, without realising that it is actually a crocodile. I appeal to all of you to calm down and choose carefully ba. You are all adults and should be able to judge for yourself whether Jaskel is indeed sincere in helping you, or does he has any hidden agenda? I do not wish to speculate and in no position to do so. Whatever you do, just open your eyes big big and think thrice before making any decisions. -
Wow, sounds very expensive to me. My suspended TV console costs $120 per foot while full height cabinet at $200 per foot. Based on your price of $3,600, my study table would be 30 feet long while the full height book shelves would be 18 feet long. Don't be a radish and let people chop chop =) Go check other ID firms. But you might have to do it fast as my ID was telling me recent surge of businesses resulted in shortage of renovation workers. Moreover, CNY coming and our Malaysian workers all going back hometown for reunion.

Saw something similar in Furniture Mall at Beach Road. Also got the stand but it comes with those cane chair rather than hammock.

All of us made decisions based on our own reasons. There will be times when the decisions we made are wrong and thus we pay the price for the wrong decisions made. As can be seen from the threads, these owners are keeping each other informed and probably trying to find some support from others who are currently using Uncle Soon's service. There will be people who feels sorry knowing that they are going through these hard times, and of course there will be people who thinks that they deserved it since they were already fore-warned by others. If you feel that they deserved it, there is no need to gloat over their predicament and post sarcastic threads, you can always don't read the threads. Let's all be reasonable adults and show kindness to those who are suffering. My heart goes out to those who are currently suffering under Uncle Soon's hands. All be strong and hopefully Uncle Soon will wake up his ideas and start to take some actions instead. -

Hi all, Finally took the trouble to sign up as a member so that I can post my comments since I have greatly benefitted from the advice that members have been giving. My search for an interior design firms/contractor started in late September, one month prior to the collection of the key to my flat. Based on recommendations from the members of this forum as well as friends and relatives, I requested for quotations from 18 different companies (a trueblue Kiasu Singaporean). Of these 18 potential ID firms/contractors, 12 responded and I met up with all 12 representatives. It was a long and tedious search as my initial plan for the layout and design of my flat kept changing as I met each new ID. After one month of searching, I finally decided on signing with Shawn from Baroque D.Zign as my ID, one week after I gotten my key. Currently, awaiting the perspective drawings to be done and will keep you guys posted on the progress of my renovation. Hopefully, my experience will be a positive and smooth one.
