  1. from the colours i played ard with, dark glossy tones are good complement for the cooking zone if i combine with ss and granite top... thanks for the heads up on using laminate top at washing zone...only concern would be warping of laminates over time due to constant contact with water...? anyway, i dun have a service yard..doing up a galley kitchen instead.. YNWA, El Nino
  2. Hmm...i thot AC3, AC4 etc are abrasion class? joint profiles shd be just that right? i.e smart click/lock system... so shd be using same joint system irregardless of the abrasion class innit... YNWA, El Nino
  3. Ohh...the pricing was $98 pfr for LG, $115 pfr for corian, granite not quoted but shd be thereabouts right? anyway, my main concern is aesthetic and practicality of having both tops in the kitchen... YNWA, El Nino
  4. hi, is it the link he left up there? coz i tried the link and it brought me to this thread again leh..haha the kitchen part im still deciding on! granite or Corian/LG solid surface?? black or white?? for the record, i might put up stainless steel backing at the cooking zone and glass at the washing zone... sooo... does it make sense to use granite at cooking zone and solid surface at washing zone?? anybody done dual materials within their kitchen.. im tempted on their individual practicality...but worried if come out like rojak sia...Lol YNWA, El Nino
  5. aha...another Red... haman1...are you Didi in disguise? Rafa wun get one...he already has his lover boy Lucas, grumpy Stevie G and a 20mil sub to play that part...just read he wants a right back instead...Gawwwd! oh, so you laid cable first for rear speakers using the default ones or got yourself some new cables? im thinking, if not up on the walls, maybe speakers stands would do for the rear LR and front LR satelites? but then would need a thick carpet to run the cables across the hall at the sofa area...... 6. thanks for the feedback danny... Simon, i think philips panel seems more heaty probably coz of the ambient lights they have.. but shd not be affecting the surroundings if you are in a big room.. have to admit, i find the ambient light easy on the eyes when watching in dark surroundings.. now contemplating between the 42pfl9664 and panasonic's G11 for my hall..
  7. Wicked...i'll drop by KEC some day then.. ok ok...new terms...DefTech and velodyne...i normally read up WhatHiFi or their forums for some fresh tech info as well...just getting more into the HiFi groove nowadays... If that happens, El Nino new partner in crime would be "The Hunter"...fearsome right? Trust Rafa to spoil this tho with his frustrating team selection and tactics... YNWA, El Nino
  8. hi all, i decided to get a quote from Ideal House...the ID who replied my email enquiry was Kevin Yap. Anyone used him? Do ideal house ID use hotmail accounts? Kinda sceptical abit they dun have company email account..or is it a norm? I received his quote based on my specs and requirements...came to abt 30k after 8% off.. mr yeak had quoted me ard 41k and impress21 at ard 43k... soooo...has the era came whereby ID is cheaper than contractors?? fyi, the two contractors had complete quotes that i requested... Ideal House one got shortage here and there...lets see how this goes..... YNWA, El Nino
  9. that should be right...if you are an HDB owner from what the sales ppl told me Err...this depends on your usage or characteristics la... think depends on the type of filter your hood has, which im not sure how it works... waiting for our kitchen experts to give the POV on this too..haha heavy usage = once a month clean out the filter? occasional usage = once every 3 to 4 months Clean freaks = every few days after cooking Lazy bums = clean? that word dun exist in my vocab...
  10. hah...finally a Reds fan in my midst...YNWA vincenzo, YNWA... this forum is swamped by MANUre fans heh... anyway, thanks for the heads up on the mounting and installation... me and wife hooked on some great sounding audio during our window shopping sessions... now she wants to have a HTS at home, time for me to learn some HTS jargons... whats one of the better priced shops in Adelphi? can i realistically say i need more than 2k for entry mid level amps, sub and speakers? YNWA, El Nino
  11. haha...as i learn more abt recycling and ducting...does invalid the need for a hood right? the only pro i can of is its for a 'quick fix' to remove the grease and smoke etc...especially for those with open kitchen and/or clothes being hung to dry within the kitchen.. YNWA, El Nino
  12. hey paraman, thanks! who did you check with for that price? I didnt come across this CS-S24KKZ model from the panasonic website leh... oh yah, in case i missed out on earlier posts...guys, what is the best way to run the insulation and trunking from compressor to fancoil? near the floor skirting or just below L-box? one of the salesperson told me to if using single split model can expect more condensation on the trunking due to...forgot what reason...so best dun put trunking in built-in-furnitures... what is the work around here? thicker insulation? YNWA, El Nino
  13. hi, think fujioh dun have 1000m3/h extraction hoods...but to be able to list their absorption rating on their site, they must be pretty confident on their hoods functionality and quality... http://www.fujioh.com.sg/cookerhoods_specs.html closest would be F1200V (almost 100% absorption rating, chun bo??) but if we staying in HDB then hoods with ventilating ducts are out i guess... hmm..think u gotta find those shops that carries both brands...im not sure which...or just source ard for best price, but you can definitely combine or buy separately yah...dun have to be same brand hood and hob.. your reno contractor can install both for you i guess...mine quoted at $50...i ask the shops is like >$100 EACH... funny is the rinnai combi i was offered was lower than their islandwide package if i buy individually... dun make sense leh...package shd be cheaper tio? YNWA, El Nino
  14. what de...fernando's identity have been discovered! any chance u a Liverpool fan? now this HTS getting more complicated then i thot.. k, so that means i have to get the speakers before reno ah?? otherwise how to lay cables before doing the L box, tio? and if run via this way, the speakers would have to be wall mounted near the ceiling? cant imagine the thot of the cable trunking in the middle of the wall behind the sofa... one more to ask, if i occasionally decide to swap position of my tv to the other wall, can i just unplug the cables from the mounted rear speakers and plug onto the front ones? oh wait...this dun sound right...dun tell me to run the cables at ceiling top means must have feature wall also to run from receiver up to ceiling across to the other side...? Aww crappp.... Sorry, HTS newbie...only 5.1 setup i had was the creative set for my PC years ago...Lol YNWA, El Nino
  15. hi vicenzo, thanks for replying then again, power plug and cables are normally at the front... my concern is the running of the rear cables... so this means, for those who dream of 5.1 HTS, die die must have light box or false ceiling to hide them cables? or use trunking to cover? not having carpet so floor run would not be in...viewing distance is 3.5m thereabouts YNWA, El Nino
  16. thanks for the clarification! needed that... from the sound of it, i still dun find this extra function much of a need but a want... end up, after every use of the oven, surely the heat will melt away all food / sauces that are splatter within it..? maybe for grilling/roasting can place a tray below to catch the dripping sauce? after finish the cooking, we will also wash our dishes right? so its the same thing, once the oven is really cooled down, use a damp cloth to just wipe should suffice innit..? Granted either catalytic or pyrolytic simplifies the cleaning potion albeit at a cost.... Just my POV... YNWA, El Nino
  17. hi, some things i could logically think of for such orientation: 1) oven not at eye level, less convenient when need to monitor during baking/roasting 2) lower than eye level means bending down often when utilising the oven, maybe not convenient for old folks or those with back problems? 3) not feasible to use glass top hobs if u fancy those, coz constant high oven heat may cause the glass to crack eventually, irregardless of what they claim got heat resistant etc etc paranoia on my part here...hehe just my POV... YNWA, El Nino
  18. im thinking of pairing philips 42pfl9664 with sony bdp360...leaving space for a 2k budget for a HTS...is that realistic for a 5.1 system or should i up it abit? would prefer for a system with 2 wireless rear tho...any thoughts?
  19. called up two companies for quotation today i was quoted Panasonic CS-S24JKZ by Hong Tar at $1970 includes removal of old aircon, 1/2 inch insulation etc Gain City Woodlands quoted me $1799 with 3/8 inch insulation, $100 removal of old aircon. To upgrade thickness i think it was $120..not yet factor in extended warranty...
  20. Hi hi.. $1510 sounds like a good deal for 3CG/Katana combo! Least i was quoted was $1.8k from CityGas. Where did you get your combo price from? Is it limited period only? The rest of the shops i asked at all refer to the combo package Rinnai has on their web...no discount True what you said regarding forummers going for Rinnai hob + Fujioh hood combi. Am browsing thru some Fujioh hoods too but...at the expense of forgoing style over quality function? Hmmm....
  21. Hello all, Came to this thread since im at a crossroad on hood selection. Pondering on Rinnai RH-Katana or RH-995 CT, since im getting a Rinnai hob, felt might as well get their hood. Now thinking of exploring whether other brand of hoods could be alternatives. Basically looking for something that has minimum 1000m3/hr extraction capacity. We cook alot, and buying a flat near in-laws equates more house visits and cooking done. Lol. Had been pre-warned by my in-laws on this lor. My concern with the RH-Katana is that tho the design looks wicked but would its 45 degrees orientation really be able to suck up all the grease and smoke sufficiently? And it only has Aluminum Grease Filter. For the RH-995 CT seems like a standard chimney hood. It has 3 Aluminum Grease filter and Charcoal filter. Anyone knows how do each filter functions? It'll be great if anyone has recommendations on other hoods with minimum 1000m3/hr extraction capacity yah. Many thanks! Look forward to your feedbacks! YNWA, El Nino
  22. Hello all, Here's a long rant. Im at a crossroad on oven and hood selection too. For convection ovens, was about to get Rinnai RBO-7MRX, priced at $746 at CityGas showroom. Then decide to look around abit due to the RBO-7MRX not having a turnspit. Yup, i love doing roasting and grilling. Wife is more inclined on the baking part. Felt that its necessary to have a rotisserie and turnspit for roasting purposes. But the Rinnai saleslady told me the RBO-7MRX roasts fine without the turnspit since it apparently has a rotational tray i.e. like microwave type. Is this true? They didnt have this oven on display hence couldnt test confirm whether what she said was true. Then i came across Ariston OS 89 IX OPENSPACE retailing at $1499 on Mayer website. Spacious, rotisserie, has tangential ventilation etc. The only downside is the poor after sales i keep reading about on Ariston. Lol. On another note, what difference is the catalytic and pyrolytic cleaning functions? Is it just higher heat difference? Coz the Ariston OS 99 IX OPENSPACE with pyrolytic cleaning retails at $1899. Worth the extra $400? And for all these multi cooking programmes ovens, wont using the same oven for roasting, defrosting, baking etc leave any lingering smell that affects your next dish? Rant over... YNWA, El Nino
  23. hehe...this is funny too! btw, ossify, how much psf did FloorOption quoted you? im thinking of getting Robina for my three bedrooms... Anxiously awaiting the laying of your platinum teak!
  24. Hi dmay, Woahhh....Quite a scratch there... You using laminate or parquet flooring? My eyes not sharp enough to tell...
  25. hi dugong, i feel for fellow forumers and consumers who had to forgo any certain sum due to whatever reasons or circumstances.. i wish there are better ways to protect us consumers.. but as i also found out from Small Claims Tribunal, a contract signed is binding as per stated in fineprint..(and we are expected to read all the small T&Cs etc)...we are expected to honour it unless we come from 3rd world country...i was like..Lol, where did that statement came from..?? Anyways, its good to know that you could see the bright side of things despite forgoing a hefty sum. Less brooding and more grooving is better yah.. With the 3d designs on hand you can just do the necessary tweaking and hunt for contractors instead.. good luck in your search and upcoming reno.. YNWA, El Nino
