Yes this quote is very very true. According to tons of historical documents that i've collected, my family (4-5generations ago) owns the land where current Centerpoint sits, parts of siglap (to be precise one documents leads back to the land where Siglap center now sits), Nallur Road, 14 Mount Rosie road which is now owned by a servant and i'm now slogging in office...where did all the fortune go????

A&a On Inter-terrace House
pantieileen replied to citygirl's topic in Landed & Condo Private Properties Renovation Discussion
i did this before they removed the junk in my house. Apparently if this is not done and they found out it was PUB fault, then the poor owner (us) will have to pay to fix the sewer. Heard that it's expensive. But if it was found to be wear and tear before any work is done to the house then it'll be PUB to fix it at PUB cost. Petunialee : i can't believe you are so hands on. I haven't even visited my house since they started work..maybe i'll pop down tomorrow. Some of my neighbors said they'll walk over and look after things for me but i wonder if they really come. -

if i retire at 40-45, its still ok..still have more than 10-20yr to do shop around since there's no need to worry about income. I guess having homes in different parts of the world is more of a hobby, visiting friends and relatives around the world. So having said all these, it's time to prepare for retirement activities!

I'd use the spare cash to buy overseas property instead. Ideally A) An apartment in upper westside NYC (for summer) = this one most ex...800k sgd B) A house in florida, slightly off downtown (for winter) = 150k sgd C) A unit at The Met at Bangkok, for golfing, shopping needs (all year round) = 400k sgd Total = 1.6M cash with some $ left for renovation, 80k reno for Florida, 50k reno for NYC, 30k for BKK reno D) Look for some piece of land in Taiwan or Japan suburbs build a house with a little farm (for spring or autumn) = yet to check out E) A townhouse in England or apartment in central London (for summer)= again, yet to checkout Since i already have assets in Singapore, to think long term, Singapore is just too expensive to retire...too many PRC, ERP... What i want is also a HDB flat but too bad..not eligible, thought it would be nice to stay in a flat once every few days to experience pigeon hole living..note, not for more than 3days per interval

i normally get meat from MMM (meat marinade and more) at west coast plaza (previously ginza) basement. gourmet standard but cheaper than them, i think even cheaper than Cold storage (if there's no discount). Good thing is they suggest types of marinates for you. but u have to pick them up else its 200 or 300 grand total then free delivery (west coast area only). i stay in the east yet i drove all the way there to buy. So for example, for 10pax, i normally spent 100 on steak alone at parkway basement (the brazilian meat store that was featured in newspapers). at mmm, i spend 150 for 30pax (my bbq 1month ago) that includes steak, rack of lamb, chicken chop (thigh...not yucky breasts), buffalo wings (mid only), cheese sausage and bbq sauces. mmm doesn't have wide selection of sausage (they outsource) but the rest of the stuff they do it themselves. For the steak i got rib eye(not the expensive cut since office function...not much budget). I remembered for marinates they had bbq, cajun, brazilian, spanish and some other i can't remember. The chix wings i remembered was 25 or 50pcs per pac <15 i think (must check receipt with my accounts dept u want exact $) else just call they'll quote u over the phone. -
A&a On Inter-terrace House

Oh...PM me your email. I send you my modest little spreadsheet. Erm...so less obvious to work compared with hardcopy on my table with when i'm snaking in office doing personal project. And i think i have to send you my quote coz whatever you mention Architect, PE, all included but what is QS? No QS in my invoice leh. Does QS means quantity surveyor? The guy that measures and then calculate individual costs of tiles, cement blah blah blah? If yes, then i'm working directly with this guy...i think there's no charge or maybe it's already included so i don't know. By the way, i also checkout the place they fabricate the windows, glass, doors. Except tiles that one i think cannot see. But my builder gave me a sheet with address of sanitary, tiles etc..where to go list. -
A&a On Inter-terrace House

Hi Citygirl...i guess i had the same concerns as you when i was first searching for builders, architect etc etc..whatever you call them since i'm not in the industry. Finally after 6months of going to ID, renovation companies..i decided to do the embarrassing thing. I went to knock on doors of new houses in old estates and ask them for recommendations. This friendly uncle in my neighborhood invited me into his house and look at his finishing, 1yr old renovated house which was originally a 60yr old house. Then he hooked me up with his architect and builder. Basically i knock on doors from Siglap to Telok Kurau area. Take photo of their exterior if you see the owner then ask if u can view inside. Well...we didn't sign on with them immediately, only after another 6months of hunting for other builders. I compared...even went to the extent to look at their existing projects (i looked at about 3-4 in one morning for each builder). Went inside, talk to the owners, look at walls, floor finishing, glass, windows and doors. Finally i also bargain for them to absorb GST by giving me a discount. So from ID firms asking me to prepare 350k for no extension, rehauling entire electrical, plumbing etc etc. 350k from a all-in-one not sure what kind you call those. Don't think it's nice to mention their full names "Merixxxx Homes" with back extension but no attic or 500k with attic. I endup with 350k extension plus attic. Ok, it wasn't one of the cheapest one i found but i guess the quality speaks for itself (well, i hope) . But i do find that you are being overcharged with architect, construction for A&A. I was talking to one of the owners at Serangoon who's SD is almost done with swimming pool. He had ID done and from 1storey went to 2.5storey with swimming pool etc etc for only 750k total (excluding furniture). So i think you kana chop carrot already. But maybe your 250k is for Award Winning? So who knows? Oh ya, SD owner said they took 6months to build although on paper the builder said 10-12months i guess to protect their own backside. Oh and by the way, i didn't do a tender. I think in tender, builders will be more rigid, less to haggle coz everything follow by book.
