  1. There are solutions like staining or even embossing (don't know if I spell correctly). Either way, it is best to do for the whole parquet floor areas. Embossing the floor ( no more grout lines) is nice but very slippery when the floor is wet as told by ID. Staining the floor can allow the parquet flooring to look uniform in color (just like laminate flooring) but once u stain, you cannot varnish without removing the staining first. Headache. Initially wanted to lay the walkway with tiles but feel it doesn't look nice. Parquet flooring will be better for the walkway. All three of us (ID, wifey and me) have the same consensus on this.
  2. Morning kopi! I think the color disparity is the more obvious problem I feel. I will probably get ID to quote the price to redo it. Morning Charemme! No la, it is not the ID's fault. When we got the house from HDB, the parquet was lay in this way for that particular room. We didn't notice the issue back then. ID spotted it immediately when he did the first on-site check. By then, it is already too late. Cos it was stated clearly in the HDB agreement that any issue has to recitifed within one yr of taking over the flat. We were like 1 yr late. ID already told us before the reno that different batches of parquet will have color disparity. He cannot guarantee the degree of color disparity. Just abit unlucky that this particular area is pretty obvious. I wanted to redo the room from the beginning but 2 votes (ID and wifey) against my single vote. The reason is to cut some cost of cos. The idea is don't need to fix it unless cannot accept lor.
  3. It is a spare room. Wifey has magnifying eyes, everything she sees is magnified by 100 times. Lol. I haven't ask the cost of re-doing it. My wifey's boss said the ID has to redo FOC because it wasn't done well. So it is his problem. Haha. I think to redo the parquet for the small area probably a few hundred. To redo the room should be 1k plus. Headache.
  4. Thanks thanks for the contact! It is the photo . Less than 1 cm is okie. I copied and edited the pic. From it, I concluded that: 1. U weren't standing in the centre of the bed when u took the pic. 2. You took the pic with the camera tilted 15 degrees to the left. Hee.
  5. Lord Vader, u are back! The wardrobes all look quite new to me.
  6. $10k inclusive of carpentry? I hope you can do it bro. So that we know how much contractor and ID are earning.
  7. Doggie!!! . What is he/she doing there? Want to be in the pic har. Hee. Is it my eye or the photo? After adjusting the slant of the photo, I still see the bedframe abit slanted.
  8. Charemme, the curtains look gd le. Can pm the contact? KIV. Hee.
  9. Hihi. I don't have any issue at all. Even similar wooden doors at my parents' place are painted. I don't see any obvious paint strokes at all. My doors are not fully painted yet. Only the 1st coat. Once it is almost/fully done, I will take a closeup shot for u. For those of us who have wooden doors, I think we do paint them. So I think it can be painted without leaving any ugly strokes. Hi Annjoy. We have the habit of leaving the doors open when we are not in the rooms. It is just one room with the problem. No conclusion yet. Still probing over it. Haha.
  10. How come your wines are not in a wine cellar. . Wine should be kept in a constant 12 to 14 degree celsius environment. Hee. I would still think halogen lights will be better. The 'scallop' lighting effect would look nicer.
  11. Hi dmay, I think it is better to redo than regret later on.
  12. I think the main reason is because it is not so common yet? We went to try it out before commiting ourselves to get the pd door. For us, we have to change the door, no choice. The very first time when we opened the wooden door of the common toilet, it is just a few cm away from hitting the WC. It is so cramped. So we know the door has to go for the common toilet at least. We tried both bi-fold and pd doors. Surprisely, pd door is more quiet than bi-fold when we tried to open and close the door. That's the main reason why we go for pd door. But a normal door is still the quietest. Wifey is a light sleeper, so might not be changing the door for MBR toilet.
  13. From the drawings, the drawers seem quite long? Are you going to do such long drawers? I think you should have a mixture of swing doors and drawers. You can't really put big pots into drawers. If you are one who loves to cook alot and have many different sizes of pots or woks, you should hvae more swing doors. Your cooking habits play a important factor here. Asethetic wise, less drawers will look more sleek in general.
  14. Paint. U saw something in the pic which I didn't realise la?
  15. Actually, I feel the kitchen should look quite gd when it was just done up many yrs ago. If it was constructed in the 80s, I think the owners are definitely quite 'in' back then. Actually, such kitchen tiles design and layout are starting to be in trend again in Europe. Anyway, if I am not wrong, this particular design started in the 50s or is it 30s. Anyway, it went out of fashion in the 60s. Came back to life in the 80s.
  16. Hihi. U can read her air con woes here - http://brainybimbobunny.blogspot.com/searc...p;max-results=3 For customised wardrobe carpentry, it is always full height to ceiling/false ceiling/covelight unless the owner prefer not to. Full height wardrobes are usually the selected choice because it can help to hide exposed electrical trunking, air con trunking, etc. Dust is the main problem here.
  17. Amrasenelya, on closer look, can I confirm if the bi fold door frame is constructed on the existing door frame? It seems like 2 door frames to me. Since the bi fold door is white, I suppose the brown door frame will be painted too? Is there some issue with PD doors? I was quoted $288 for a pd door. Design looks like yours exactly for a white one.
  18. Bigeyedfish, must be patient! Cheer up!
  19. Carpentry work should take quite a few days for it to be done. Part of my carpentry work will be up next wk too.
  20. Hahaha, cannot la, wifey brings back more dough than me. And I think her opinion counts. U also think okie la. I hope you had a gd time too!
  21. Yup yup, I agree. Actually, our new shower glass is very clear but from the side, abit greenish. Then I asked ID. He said normal tempered glass is like that unless we want crystal clear glass. I told wifey to accept it la. Nothing is perfect all the time. Now I have to tell her to accept the flooring also. Hopefully she accept. Hee.
  22. Cat, If I am not wrong, M1 broadband is actually tapping into Singtel or Starhub technology. I have been using Singnet all these years. I think it is better to stick to the bigger market players, either Singnet or Starhub. Cost and promo wise, I think Starhub is more attractive. In my case, I don't have a SCV box near my desktop, only a telephone line, that why I have using Singnet.
  23. Guys and Gals, thanks for all the input! Really appreciate it. Arigato!!! Thanks butterfingerzz. Now I know that is a t-bar. As what born again said, a thin door mat will do the trick. Or even without it, I will get use to it eventually. That is what I think also. But my finance minister will have the final say lor. Hahaha. To shed abit more light on the house reno, the flooring layout is divided into 4 areas. Mini living hall, main living hall+garden area, kitchen and rooms+walkway. We raised the height of flooring for the kitchen and main living hall+garden area to have a clear distinction of each area.
