  1. Yeah I agree with Jeda. Somemore, HDB side is very strict about MOP criteria.
  2. If it's a bank loan, your lawyer will not be from HDB. It will be from one of the law firms under OCBC list. I took OCBC loan too.
  3. I moved out last week. There're still some nice landlords out there. My friend has one nice landlady who will even cook her dishes.
  4. Surprisingly the previous washing machine still can work properly after the fall LOL! 5cm is definitely enough. Remember to also leave some gap behind for the pipes.
  5. So many accounts at UOB! Then u better don't change bank. Last time I used to think sellers will sell their units to the buyer with the highest bid. After coming to this forum, then I realise that's not always the case and some sell based on whether they like the buyer hehe.
  6. I actually bought a low floor resale unit cos I realise the higher it goes, the higher the COV!
  7. I can understand your heartpain. Me and hubby also balloted for 2.5 years for the balance flats, and couldn't get any. So we rented a room and recently bought a resale house. My colleague replied "New house from HDB also needs you to fork out 40K cash for the renovation" after I grumbled about my heartpain of 40K cash for my resale house. I thought his replies made sense. Resale house comes with things done up, so we can choose not to renovate so much. IMHO, you should grab a BTO unit or resale house before your combined income exceeds the 8K ceiling. Once exceeds 8K, you are not eligible for grant and BTO, and die die have to take bank loan which means forking out extra cash for the 5%. Valuations of resale house are still rising. Better not delay your purchase further unless you can afford to wait for the next global recession.
  8. Yah you should change bank. Citibank, DBS and OCBC sent their letters to my new home address just 1 week after I informed them. Your buyer is such a nice person.
  9. What brand of paint did your contractor use? My hubby and I did painting on our own. We didnt apply sealant before painting the walls. We pasted masking tapes on our old paint (Matex) and new paint (Nippon Vinelex). When we pulled off the masking tape, a bit of the old paint came off but not the new paint. It makes me wonder is it due to the brand of the paint?
  10. Have u double checked through street directory or viewing that the bedok unit is indeed 5 mins walk to MRT? Many agents put their units as "5 mins walk to MRT" although they are actually at least 30min walk to MRT lor If it's indeed 5 mins walk to MRT, I would say GRAB it too haha!
  11. Erm my new Hitachi washing machine dances a bit when it's spinning, so please spare a little bit of space for your machine's dancing move. Last month, my old washing machine at my previous place actually spinned and danced until it fell off the base, pulled the wires & socket out from the wall, and caused a blackout!
  12. Just wondering... If the tenant isn't foreigner, why does he need to put the landlord's address on his NRIC? He can use his parent's home address on it. When I was renting a room, I just leave my parent's home address on my NRIC like before.
  13. Pop out 3 times! Hope no more such headache for him/her.
  14. If you intend to do an overhaul renovation, I guess the age of the flat doesn't matter so much to you. Condition of the flat also depends on how the owners maintain it, how long ago did they renovate it etc? The age of flat was a consideration for me when I was looking for house last year. Because I do not intend to do much renovation, and want to move in fast fast. Now I'm staying at Sembawang, while my parents are staying in Sengkang. Many flats in these two towns are around 5 years to 12 years old. Woodlands has some flats hitting just 5 years but very few are for sale.
  15. The management people where got so free to keep calling up all the households everyday to chase them for the money they owe? This posting on notice board will save the management people some work. If the households still refuse to pay up, maybe hang pig heads at their doorsteps next?
  16. Last weekend, I managed to buy the charcoal stove for my move-in at Sheng Shiong supermarket.
  17. http://www.asiaone.com/Business/My%2BMoney...330-207531.html "At $900,000, it will be a record re-sale price for a Bishan flat in the last 15 years." This buyer offers 730K val + 170K COV. 170K COV!!
  18. Yes I agree with you. It's a big NO NO to rent very old houses with very old furnishings. If the landlord is unreasonable type, he/she will find chance to accuse tenants of spoiling their old furnishing in order to force tenants to compensate them with brand new ones. My previous rented room had water leaking from pipes in toilet and water leaking from ceilings. It had moulds growing on the walls and wardrobe as a result. My landlady had been using an antique, manual washing machine that could only do spinning. She was the last one who used the washing machine and saw electric sparks from it. But she accused my hubby of spoiling her washing machine. To preserve harmony, I actually compensated her a new auto washing machine. Guess what? Instead of feeling happy about it, she knocked at my door a few times to complain that the new washing machine wasted her electricity argh... There're always horrible landlords and horrible tenants around. It really depends on luck.
  19. Besides the helpful points mentioned by other forumers, I think you should also consider the PR & Ethical quotas of Sembawang and Sengkang. Are you Singaporean or PR? What's your race? Sembawang has many blocks hitting PR quota, while Sengkang has many blocks hitting Indian quota. Personally I would go for a place that has closer proximity to our parents' places and workplaces. If you still cannot make a decision, why not start viewing houses in both Sembawang and Punggol? See which house manages to capture your heart first!!
  20. My friend just had his 1st appointment 2 days before you. He and his seller requested for earlier completion date, and he was given 5.5 weeks completion.
  21. Cheer up! You have a much bigger house now~! Anyway how many times do we actually look out of our window everyday hehe?
