  1. Sorry to intrude on the fan club, but I was wondering what the deal is about this sofa. I mean it looks interesting, but it's not very comfortable. I tried it in the showroom and kept thinking how much time you send on the sofa when you're at home. Surely one should be buyig something that really rocks and is comfortable rather than something that looks good, but offers little else?
  2. Dude....that seems on the costly side to me. I know this forum can make you want be as unique as possible, but 45k is a lot man. I don't know how bad the state of your flat is, but the quote seems to contain a lot of carpentry work that for me doesn't add up. There are packages out there, where the ID or contractor will do up a complete 4rm flat including kitchen cabinets and TV feature wall for 22k. If you then go out and get your own furniture, you should be well under 45k. Maybe worth considering. I think you can do the 'package' to whip your house into good shape, spend a few K more to be "unique" and do a few special things, buy furniture think you'll be below 35k. - hacking for the whole house = 2k - wetworks = 1k to 1.5k - tiles depend on quality and colour about 8k to 12k for the whole house - kitchen cabinet 4k. - worktop = 1.2k to 1.6k for good granite worktop - not sure about windows, as my flat came with good ones One thing about your quote, it doesn't contain a lot of water-proofing which you need for common toilet and theone in MBR. plus the service balcony. Your ID might charge that later on. You should ask the ID for an itemized quote.
  3. I bought from Univonna at IFC Sungei Kadut. Great, friendly service. The sofa was the most comfortable in the whole building (to me anyways/0 - and actually I'm a Lorenzo fan, but my current 6 year old Lorenzo couch is so much better and more comfortable than the curent models and the salesmen didn't seem to care much for m wife and I. One obviously sized me up and gave me the "they can't spend look". I made sure to give them a big smile after walking out of Univonna with receipt in hand. ;-)
  4. Hi all, I thought this thread could use an update. The wifey and I spent 3 1/2 hours at IFC Sungei Kadut and I think I sat on 75% of the sofas there. There was one value for money sofa that was decent at King's, but UNivonna had two sofas that were very very good. Unfortunately, the one I liked most was a bit out my price range, but I got an L-Shape that was damned comfy AND had a recliner! How sexy is that?!?! I'll update this again in mid December when we've used the sofa for a few weeks and I can give more comments. Sales staff are very good though.
  5. Hi Rasp, I noticed you have a black granite worktop in the kitchen. Can you share with me how much your id quote for the whole worktop in the kitchen please? Thanks!
  6. Hi guys, I want buy a system 4 too. (4 blowers and a compressor). Would like to join the group purchase. Don't mind inverter or non-invertor. I would just add that I have Mitsubishi Starmex in my current place and it's easy to clean.
  7. Hi, can anyone who has a good, reliable contractor to recommend, kindly PM me? He should be able to converse in English, because I can't speak Chinese. Thanks!
  8. I don't have a sub When I bought my hi-fi, I was very much into "hearing the sound the way the producer intended". I wanted refernce-type speakers that wouldn't discolour the sound too much. Eventually though, I realized that I have to "enjoy" listening to the music .....and that to me means more bass. Not ah beng-honda-civic-mobile-disco type of bass, but tight, punchy bass you can hear AND feel. Anyway, my brothers, just to share that I'm a new owner of the Denon AVR 2310 receiver! The reviews on that bad boy were great, so I went down to audio house with a test DVD and a few CDs. The amp does movies REALLY well. Music was acceptable, but i suspect it's because the speakers weren't fantastic and the sales guys configured the amp for movies with the rear speakers slightly louder than the front speakers. I got the free Boston speakers too. All that for $1399!!! HAPPY! I'll put the rotel + B&W in my game room for the listening corner. for my "me time"
  9. Hi again, Honestly, stay away from Panasonic, Philips etc..... esp Philips ...urgh... Check today's newspapers. There's a big advert for Denon. They are offering the AVR2310 for $1599. Already a good deal, but on top of that they are giving a FREE Boston CS2310 speaker system. I have to say that even I am tempted! http://www.denonsingapore.com/ Very good review on the Denon AVR2310 http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-cinema/...-AV-Receiver/p1 The speakers have good reviews http://www.bostonacoustics.com/CS-2310-Cla...ckage-P375.aspx
  10. Hi vicenzo, I use B&W D602 They are modest too, but a re good speakers. I do have to say that I wish it had a bit more bass though. Now I have a tough choice. Do I leave them in my game room where I will have a "listening corner" or do I use them as rear speakers for my HTS? decisions, decisions,
  11. Hi Lapena, Thank you for the advice! YIn the end, I bought a Miele! There are quite a few unfavourable comments on the build quality of the Dyson floating around the net and the made in Malaysia was a deal-breaker. Miele is made in Germany and had nothing but positive comments on the net and youtube reviews. The Miele washer plus dryer is a stretch too much for me though. I'm a guy after all and would rather plow that money in a good Homes Theatre System.
  12. Dude... If your budget is $800, go for a Denon, but try to resist the usual suspects like Panasonic or Haman Kardon. My sincere advice, however, would be o save up for something better. As another member has pointed out $1500 will get you a good Onkyo or Yamaha system which will dump all over the price range you're looking at. The amps usually have more inputs too and are built better. You can even feel the difference. If you can hold out a bit longer, just save up a bit more or if you buy from a department store, you can pay with 0% installments. I have had the pleasure of listening to some crazily expensive sond systems belinging to people who have power regulators and use cables that cost over a hundred dollars per meter. I know I'll never go that crazy, but i also cannot go back to the likes of Shinco or philips. I listen to music on with my Marantz CD player, Rotel amp and B&W speakers. Modest set up, but better than any average hi-fi system. If you're free go to Adelphi and treat your ears to some reasonable Marantz, Onkyo or Yamaha systems. It will change your mind about sound. Lastly, try to resist going for the brands like Harman Kardon. My research is a bit dated, but unless they have made great strides in the last year, that brand is lagging behind in clarity and the bass is not as punchy or tight. Just my two cents worth.
  13. My cousin has a Denon and is very happy with it. M wife bought a Panasonic system and even though it is supposed to play all regions, it can't. Also has problems with pirated DVD. If you have a bit more budget, you should check out Onnkyo and Marantz though. The difference is considerable. Good audio equipment will put a smile on your face every time you use it.
  14. Hi, I almost bought a Dyson DC22 at Best Denki today. I've been interested in Dyson VCs and the story behind the creator. he was turned down by all the major manufacturers and they even tried to sully his invention. Anyway, I decided to do some more research before shelling out for such a big ticket item and there really is quite a bid of negative remarks about Dysons breaking down or not being able to withstand a few bumps or bruises. Does anyone have feedback on Dysons? The alternative would be a Miele, as I think they have good products. Either one of the cheaper ones or the S 4562 for Cat & Dog fur. Thanks in advance!
  15. Hi all, I went shopping at Best Denki PS today and after picking up my fridge and other household appliances, turned my attention towards washing machines. Of course, this is my wife's baby and she was quite intrigued by the sales guy's speech about a Maytag Washing machine. The model is the MFA7510AW. I have long had a long and deep-seeded mistrustful relationship with American electronic firms and no longer buy anything remotely American eventhough I work for one. THing is, that the Maytag is manufactured in Italy, which isn't half-bad, while the Bosch washing machines are made in China and seemeingly can't even take half-loads. They'll just wash verything with the same amount of water as a full load. 9that was the sales guy's spin anyway). I've had a panasonic for several years now and it's never failed me. It might be made in China, but it's a tried and test brand. Have any of you got any feedback on Maytag washing machines and any advice on this appliance in general?
  16. hi, can you PM me the numbers too, please?
  17. Hi all, My wife and I just bought our first flat (resale) and there's not much work to be done. Just painting the 3 bedrooms + hall, but we would want to redo the bathroom. Maybe even install a bath tub (not sure if it's possible). I'm hoping to get some recommendation from other users with good expereiences from previous renovation works. Do you know a good interior designer? Preferably one who can also do that actual renovation. Thanks much!
