  1. Hey folks... it's been a whle since i visited the forum. Been really busy with work and stuff... What did i miss!?
  2. Hello neighbour! Congrats!! Didn't have time to come online till now... He is cute!!!!
  3. Yeah bedsheets are never enough.. But they're so expensive!!! I tried saving by getting ikea ones but the difference in quality is very obvious. I got this housebrand Alto bedsheets from John Little. Very good! High thread count (think 400+) and it has a slight shine. Luxurious. Most impt it is plain (dun like flowery complicated designs) and affordable ($150 for quilt cover, bedsheet, 2 pillow cases). Anyway, will get one of the big rocker switches from Homefix to DIY. See if i can do it. Hahah.. Didn't ask contractor to do it cos he charged me quite high for it. Haiyoh... $$$-face...
  4. Hmmm... thinking of changing the default HDB switches to big rocker switches. Is it easy to DIY? The HDB ones we got need some strength to switch on and off!
  5. Hmmm.. if you're not very particular about the brand, there are much cheaper tvs out there. Recently bought LG 32 inch (LC4R) TV at $949 from Gain City ($1099 with $150 NTUC vouchers). Contrast ratio 8000. Quite decent for the price. Some say LG break down easily but it's ok for me since there's warranty anyway... Prices are going down down down... and to think that i thought i got a super good deal for my Samsung 32S71B at $1350 in October 2006.
  6. Yeah.. custom made curtains also cost a bomb ... Since we have the same layout, i share with you guys my curtain cost? balcony - full height and length, day and night curtains original study room (now my living room) - full height and length, blackout curtains Study room - full height curtains, cover length of windows only, day curtains Bedroom - full length and height, day and night curtains Wardrobe area - day curtains, full height and length After comparing quotes, went for the cheapest... inclusive of curtain tracks. $1,400 from shop in Bedok.
  7. Yeah... spent alot of time, effort and had my fair share of headaches to save on the ID fees. I'm quite anal about having my house look a certain way so it's not easy anyway to find an ID who has similar tastes. Hanging egg chair? The retro looking white and red designer piece? Yeah that's gonna cost both arms and both legs i'm sure hahaha... I bought Miss K from Space Furniture for $310. That's a promo price and i believe it's still on. Usual price is $435. Can also buy 2 at $580 but i rather use the money on other pieces that i like. There are other colours available... the black is gorgeous... but that's too decadent or over the top for our bedroom i reckon... It's pretty ex for a lamp but i'm a sucker for good design... And it's one of the few items at Space that we can afford right now hahaha! Compassvale.. thanks for your comments! Yeah I dabble in photography when i have the time. Almost all the pictures in the house were shot by us. My friends say we are 'zhi lian'.. or 'in love with ourselves'. Got photo frames in every room, including the toilets. yeah.. i think we might have overdid it.... oppps!
  8. Hey bluberi... no point comparing apples to oranges! The themes of our homes are totally different! Your house is nice you know! Simply add some personal touches like photos and ornaments and it'll be even more warm and cosy I'm sure. Looking forward to more pics of your place! Anyway yeah.. plastering is so expensive! Have to strike it off our wish list. Quite sad we had to drop it. I guess we all want our homes to have 'condo-style-finishing'??? Haha deathcoth, yah sure i'll pop over with my wife to say hi if we see you on sunday.
  9. Haha did the designing myself. Took some time to discuss with my wife what our needs and wants are..both at the present and the future.... then with that came space planning, then decide on the overall look or theme... then used Google Sketchup to help visualise how the space would flow and look. Had to revise and adapt along the way due to budget and contractor's skill level, but at least the space planning is retained. Anyway, had a bad time with the contractor. Wouldn't recommend to anyone loh... Headache I guess we can never be satisfied with our reno... Constrained by time, energy, money. And one thing's for sure, you can't wow everyone... so as long as I feel happy to be home, I think it's a reno well done bah...
  10. *Gasp* I think i'm ur neighbour... Hello! Hahah.... You bought the place during WIS November 2006 right? Have not started on reno? We moved in since March!
  11. Love it! I see you're into good designs too heheh... Here's one of my fav websites for good design. http://mocoloco.com/ Unfortunately... we can't find it in Singapore... Good news for my wallet though hahah!
  12. Hahaha you'll be surprised how many girls out there already tell their bfs how big their diamond ringS of the future are going to be. I think women can tell the future.. or at least they make sure the future is....bright (pun intended). It's just my personal opinion. Cos i'll do many things within my capability to show my love. To me, no proposal = no effort = no sincere loh. Anyway, the first and second scenarios were on a ceteris paribus assumption lah. I.e. both ask the magic question with the same amount of sincerity in their words lah. E.g. My good fren very broke now.. he congratulate me then he offered to shoot my ROM as a wedding gift. That's sincerity mah. If he only say congratulations. Then months later gimme hamper after he become rich. At that point in time when he only say congratulations, i would think he no sincerity wor. Just my view haha! No need to agree!
  13. Heh, i guess if both your husband and you are both happy and comfortable with the monitoring, then I throw my hands up in the air too Anyway, working in the CBD. It's terrible. Morning squeeze... and gosh, can't even hail a cab to go home when i do OT. Confirm must book then can get.
  14. The size of the rock doesn't reflect the sincerity of the proposal. It only reflects the financial power of our other half and how comfortable he is spending it. Let me choose between a guy who proposes with a 0.1 carat ring and another who doesn't propose but buys u a $50k ring years later... I'll take the first fella. At least it shows that he really wants to marry you and makes the effort to let you know that.
  15. Hi Air, I think my point is... being 'alert' is not ok. Like what zirhk and I have mentioned, being 'alert' does not seem to serve any purpose in maintaining a healthy relationship. Maybe you can show us otherwise? You may be alert and have detected something. But that something is already done. The crime has already been committed. Kudos to you if you are able to honestly tell your husband, "Dear, i found out that you are having an affair with XXX, but i forgive you. Let's work things out shall we?" If you don't mind going through the emotional rollercoaster of dealing with someone you love dearly who has cheated on you, then sure, i rest my case. But I hope you realise that fully enjoying the potential of your relationship requires total trust from both parties. It prevents the crime from being committed in the first place. And if your guy succumbs eventually to the temptation despite your total trust and commitment, it will be him who will be the loser, not you. Invest your brain power in making him happy, and not in figuring out whether he is doing something behind your back. Ask yourself, would you be happy to know that your husband doubts you when you go partying into the wee hours with friends, or tell him that you are working OT? Prevention is better than cure, we've all been taught. I'm sure it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that being less than 100% trusting is in no way the prevention. Why would being the last to know stop you from salvaging the relationship? It suggests that it can't be salvaged because too many people know. Isn't that taking 'face' into consideration?
  16. Hi Air, I understand what you mean by not wanting to be the last to know. It's also perfectly fine to rectify things when you have noticed something going wrong. I must first clarify that asking questions does not automatically constitute less than 100% trust. The important question is, what is the motive for asking those questions. Are you asking because you are 1) geniunely interested in what is going on in his exciting/boring/whatever life, or are you asking 2) to check for any weird behavour? Unless you're naggy, guys would love the former as it shows you CARE. The latter only shows you are SUSPICIOUS. Imagine innocent you being held up by the police and questioned as a potential murderer. You like that? This example is extreme for comparison purposes but the damage to his heart is no doubt done, albeit in differing degrees. Not trusting a man 100% is perfectly fine. But why marry him when you don't trust him totally? What is a marriage to you? Trusting a guy 100% will give him one more reason to reject that indecent proposal. You snooping around gives him one more reason to cover up his tracks better after some wrongdoing. One is prevention. The other is not even the cure. Upkeeping a marriage is not easy. The last thing you should do is to create something out of nothing to create more tension between you two.
  17. What you have described above is irrelevant. Whether the 20% should come in or not does not depend on how much your husband loves you or what he does to make you happy. Trust him when he dotes on you like a queen but dun trust him as much if he treats you any lesser than that? I would call that materialistic. As long as you call him your husband, and you his wife, there should be total trust in a marriage. The lack of it will only eventually pry open any weaknesses in your marriage. On another note, may i ask what you have done for your husband (who obviously dotes on you), to make him as happy as you? How do you make sure that he will continue loving you this way 10, 20, 30 years down the road?
  18. Haha.. Yeah i do.. the english version only cos i amended it countless times to make it easier for my mauritius colleague to translate into french! The french version... er... the start and the finish can lah.. Middle part gone case hahahah! So wanna relive the moment over and over again. I enjoyed the proposal as much as she did.
  19. Hi Chunky Monkey, zirhk3355 and other ladies in this thread. After reading this thread, i felt that I have to lend support to your viewpoints. For the record, i'm male, and 100% against the 80-20 trust 'rule' and all its other variants (like the 'i must stash away money for myself and hide it from him just in case' rule). However, the rule is already so deeply ingrained in their minds since young that it'll take more than the 3 of us to convince them otherwise. It's sad when husband and wife spend their days not trusting their partners 100%. Seriously, why even bother saying 'I do' when you don't trust that he will honour his lifetime commitment to you? What foundations are your marriages based on? As a guy, I would feel terrible if my wife feels that i might be fooling around. You say you've seen so many cases of men fooling around. But I'm not those men. I am myself. What have I personally done to deserve the 80-20 treatment? Can I start thinking my wife is a s-l-u-t after I hear that her female colleagues are sleeping around with other guys? Ladies, please realise that you're not being fair to your husbands. A couple cannot possibly find true happiness if both doesn't trust each other wholeheartedly. Do you honestly think your husband will find the motivation to love and treasure you 100% if he senses that you don't trust him? He would be thinking, "why bother? I deserve someone better.." and that makes it easier for him to succumb to whatever temptations outside.. temptations that he might not have succumbed to if he was thinking: "I have a woman at home who loves and trusts me 100%. There is no better woman out there for me." And you.. poor you! He makes the effort to make you happy by buying you an expensive gift. You enjoy it 80% and 20% of your mind is filled with thoughts of "Is he doing this to cover up for his misdeeds outside?". You call that a happy marriage??? I learned the importance of trust after years of not getting it from my mum. I was hurt very deeply emotionally by that. I have also seen with my own eyes how the lack of trust drove her husband further and further away from her. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy really. Ladies, i can only beg you to change your mindsets for your own good. I've severed ties with my mum and her husband who cheated on her. People often say, blood is thicker than water. But look at what the lack of trust has done. Still not convinced? For my own marriage (ROM on 10 June but living together for some time le), I can proudly say I trust her 100% (4 years madly in love with each other and I've never felt an urge to check on her handphone messages). She was brought up the traditional way but she has slowly seen the benefits of trusting me fully. It has made it so easy for us to show how much we love each other. It's not 100% but it's getting close I reckon. Men are not as insensitive as u think we are. We can tell when you're doubting us. Everyone deserves a happy marriage. But it's something we need to work at, not doubted.
  20. Heh... this 'plastic' chair is actually copy of the designer Panton Chair. From http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=0481 Designer Verner Panton Verner Panton's cantilevered stacking chair was the first single-material and single-form chair to be made and has been produced by Vitra through three decades of development in plastics technology. This version consists of a single piece of strong, flexible polypropylene with integral color that will not fade over time. As striking as modern sculpture, this classic piece is appropriately durable and easy to clean in cafés or restaurants, and is comfortable enough to use as an occasional chair in an office or residence. Been to Lush. They carry alot of copies of designer stuff... Was there to check out the Arco Lamp and Barcelona Chair.
  21. Would you call mine a platform bed? It's covered with fabric that can be changed. Bought at $599 at Inges. I believe can bargain more... First quoted $699. Like it cos it's a 'copy' of italian designs.
  22. Hi hi can i share my proposal? We were in Europe for holiday and on our 3rd yr anniversary, we were in Paris. Knew she would suspect something so i brought her to a picnic on the grass patch in front of the eiffel tower in the afternoon. That was supposed to be a way to celebrate our anniversary. At night, i suggested to go to this tall building overlooking the night scene of Paris cos we were feeling bored in the hotel. After watching the sun set on top of the 67th storey building, we saw the eiffel glitter like a sparking diamond. It was beautiful. Then i took out my PSP and suggested to play some music. But i played this self-made MTV which i made consisting of a slideshow with our photos and our song. I sang our song to her in my arms while she watched the screen. Then after the song, i proposed to her in a speech prepared in french (my friend help to prepare it and i memorised it). She doesn't understand it so i had english subtitles running across the PSP screen as i did the speech. I did that cos everything sounds sexy and romantic in french! And so i popped the question and gave her the ring. She said Oui! - Yes in french... Copyright singhao
