  1. Blah, I am just plain lazy or never notice the abundance of all these books in amazon. Time to hunt those book in the NLB.
  2. Talking about 2 burners and 3 burners, reminded me of my mom's advice. I bought 2 burners stove (cuz the 3 burners out of stock). My mum asked why I bought the 2 burners one. Not good. Should get 3 burners. Three burners means not "even" (cuz not a pair, from the chinese saying), hence you will get more to make it "even". She insists to buy those extra single burner for my kitchen. I'm being stubborn cuz I don't need it and it's unsightly. So, never follow advice.
  3. Bro, thanks alot. I have been reading chinese history from young (of course with local translation). San guo is my favourite so far. Shui hu chuan doesn't interest me. The rest of the history, I only read in general. Not easy to find english books about this. The calendar link is very good, it can be a stepping stone for me to read more about all these. So, the german jesuit is actually the Galileo equivalent in Chinese history ... lol
  4. I can't imagine the 2nd partition that near to your daughter's room. For the 1st partition, is the width of the partition align to the door? So the partition makes sure that when someone open the door, the can't see the windo at all?
  5. Apart from bright, I think it's common consensus to always keep your foyer clean and tidy. If it's messy maybe it affects the chi flow?
  6. I agree it's kinda weird but luckily I bring in the balcony as part of the living room. Hence, still no issues to put my sofa. You can see the pics in my t-blog
  7. - Kitchen door is original, still good and looks expensive. So I leave it Though I add the black solar film. - Maybe the "throat" area should be big so can eat more "food"/"wealth"? This is my own story to satisfy my own need. Which most probably is wrong. haha. So for 3 room, it'll be tricky because difficult to build a wall/partition to make foyer because the space constraint. to Ivy1981, Master Chang never explains why need to build so big. Maybe need to rub shoulder more often with him. But he's busy man, so difficult ..
  8. Mine is just "dropped" to the hole for the hob. I asked whether need to put silicone. Contractor said no need, though if I want, she would apply for me ...
  9. I wonder, is it safe to post the FS layout that Master Chang drew for us? OTOH, it should be keep "secret" but when I look again, there's nothing secret about it actually. Maybe I will show it to you during Coffee-O session - There's no beam in the kitchen .. - Kitchen is abit short of natural light. The kitchen door is around 1.2 m width? In front of the kitchen door is immediately the stove. Interestingly Master Chang asked us to put "black" solar film to the kitchen door, maybe since I'm the chef of the house and due to both of our bazi's. - MBR is said not a very good location to sleep. Bedroom 2 and 3 are better. So, we combine the MBR and Bedroom 2. MBR is study room. - Windchime is located at the corner of front foyer. - Then there are 3 locations for sea salt and also 3 locations of plants. - House is blocked so not much wind coming in. Even so, Master Chang asked us not to open the "right leaf" of the window. Picture of Kitchen entrance.
  10. Cheaper Way to Build In-Drawer Knife Rack ... Maybe I would do this in 1 fine day ... muahahaha http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/cutlery...der-tips-120820
  11. For a room, just register your tenant online from hdb website.
  12. No problem. The partition that Master Chang advises is good from the design perspective, it doesn't take so much hall space. Imagine if he ask you to build the partition align to the same wall of the toilet. It would be difficult
  13. From watching those chinese show, I realize the why the Jade Emperor sits behind with all the stars surrounding him like an "U" shape. So, it's for the support. To know all these, which book is a good start? An english book would be better. A chinese book would be just put in my shelf until my chinese is good enough to start reading it (still learning )
  14. As you mentioned, the green mark is a more "precise" place to create foyer or throat than the brown. But why Master Chang advises on brown spot? I asked him whether we could put it on the "green" spot but he said it won't have a good result. So, I follow his advise and built the partition near the brown spot. As I brought in the useless, balcony to be part of hall, there's still enough space to put the TV console. The dining table is located near the entrance of the kitchen. Coffee-O would come ... we could meet up for coffee/supper at bedok
  15. Got coffee on me !! I suspect it's something to do with "big throat"? (saw ur response from another thread
  16. Anyone can help me to enlighten why Master Chang advised us to have the divider as located in the brown box. From design perspective, we would like to have it in the green box. If we put the partition/divider in brown box, it would take up so much space in the living room and the foyer is waaay to big also. Any one knows why?
  17. From google translate, it's money turtle. Maybe some species of turtle?
  18. Non Poison Finally I can contribute something non-poisonous. I recalled someone talking about non-stick pan, etc ... I found the link back. http://www.seriouseats.com/2009/12/video-h...ost-effect.html It's called "Leidenfrost Effect". Ideally, you want a mercury-like ball of water to hover over the pan, which happens at 320°F or the Leidenfrost point. The water should evaporate more slowly than it would at lower temperatures but if many tiny bubbles form, that means the pan is too hot.
  19. I saw howard studio has a in-drawer knife storage that is similar to the Wusthof $100 one. Their price is $54.xx But again, you can don't buy it now. Just buy it next time after the reno tidal wave has subside.
  20. wow .. so bad. A name would be good. Or maybe you can PM me the person's name if possible?

  23. Pt2 is the interesting thing. My friend house has a wall of 2 mirrors joint HORIZONTALLY facing the dining table. Said, it's better because you won't see the joint cuz it's "blocked" by the dining table but i find it's very weird. Any FS reason that would think this is not good?
  24. Is there any specific reason mirrors can't be joint horizontally? or it's for pure aesthetic reason?
  25. I was asking them abt john boos chopping board, I would ask the same question for you regarding the knife holder too.
