  1. Oops, sorry, my bad! I will PM u regarding you the cctv :-) For each downlight u r using 2x13W ?
  2. Hello! No problem, glad to help :-) 1. Plastering of the wall is to make the wall smoother and to make the edges 'sharper' thus looks more well defined. 2. Yes, u need to hack away the tiles, cement screed (smoothen he surface after hacking) and then plaster over. The plastering compound for kitchen wall is different from those used for living and bedroom. Under HDB regulation, u cannot use normal plaster forkitchen wall, thus is slightly more expensive. But over all the saving is about few hundreds compared to using tiles. 3. It depends on how nice u wan yr hse to be. If u r ok with those uneven surfaces, then dun do plastering for living and bedroom. But for kitchen, u cant escape plastering coz u r not using tiles. 4. this one... i need to check back my quotation but should be btw 300 - 400 including making good of the areas after hacking as they will be damaged (uneven surface). U have the same floor plan as mine! Which area is it? :-)
  3. Hi Goobii, When u say double plugs, do you mean 2 switches in 1 face plate? Is Uncle Peter response prompt? And will he accompany me to buy the faceplates and switches? As i m running rather short of time now, i like to cut down the time taken for sourcing for the switches and faceplates. Can you direct me to any shops where i can find a reasonable range of the stuffs? I need to settle electrical this week, get town council to change the pipings (after tt need to make good the tiles again :-S) and buy the toilet accessories and WCs... Rush rush rush! Thanks a lot!!
  4. I calculated just now, total power points and lighting point installation already $1790. Have not include SCV and heater points yet. Anyone has electrician lobang? Seriously need to cut down cost. ... Thanks....
  5. Yeah, that is quite expensive and i dun have a lorry to delivery the sofa and wardrobes. 6% is correct. Checked the website... but website didnt say it is $55 above $300...
  6. Hi all, This is quoted by my contractor for engaging his electrician. Is this a fair deal? $60 per double powerpoint $50 per single powerpt $50 for telephone point $100 per SCV pt $90 per heater pt MCB box is $300. The dismantling and removing of old wires is FOC. Alternatively, does "lightings.com.sg" do whole house electrical wiring for us? Thanks.
  7. Hi Ossify, can check with you, ikea delivery charge is $50? If my purchase exceed certain amount, will they give free delivery? I maybe buying a sofa and 2 wardrobes.... will these be delivered in parts and i have to pay then installation charges also?
  8. Hi Goobii, I know crime prevention is important, but i really can't stand the sight of one side with narrower gap, I guess i will just DIY something after that so that the hand will not be able to reach the main door knob even if he sticks his hand in all the way. CCTV..... i thought about this also, installing a real one, but never have time to really think about this. Does this have to be done during reno stage for the cabling? Where did you place the monitoring LCD display and the recorder? I also thought of putting video intercom.. all digital toys.... Btw, if you do not switch on the fan light in the living hall and rely on just the downlight by the side, how many do you need to switch on to sufficiently brighten up the place? Thanks!
  9. Thanks. Cos i got a feeling the aircon pipe will need to cut thru the wall abover the bedroom doors, of which i have already partition it up....
  10. Huh... so if i am using it in bedroom, i can only draw the hot air out of the window? And the cold air will be escaping at the same time also right? Thinking of using portable aircon because i dun like those aircon trunking running around....
  11. I think you can fall asleep while watching tv in that sofa bed. Noticed a section of the window grille nearer to the main door has narrower gaps for security right? My window contractor suggest this to me but i decided not to go for it.
  12. Just read her blog. I think she could have understand from the contractor on the damages to existing infrastructure (hole above bedroom door etc) resulting from the installation so she dun really get surprises end of the day. Besides that, yes, it is the dust and getting the 'best route ' for the cabling. Her blog gave me an idea to use portable air-conditioner. Any minus-points for this? Anyone?
  13. Thanks Mickey for the link. I thought maybe i can use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust while the contractor is drilling. This is what most people do right?
  14. I am ok with moving away furnitures just to make way for the work and also clean up the place later though. Only worry abt not getting the best route (= uglier?) for the cabling of i do it later. For e.g, maybe now can hide above false ceiling? Next time once false ceiling is up, cannot run there liao...
  15. Ok, this is what i have learnt: There are one vertical pipe (cast iron) from floor to ceiling. This is HDB's property. So you can simply get HDB/Town Council to change it to PVC for free by HDB's Term Contractor. Then there are also 2 small U-shape pipes (cast iron) that links to master bedroom toilet. These 2 U-shape pipes are NOT HDB's property and owner has to change it at their own cost, at their own choice of contractor outside. But if you are changing all the pipes together, you can get HDB's Term Contractor to change the U-shape pipes also. You will only be charged for the U-shape pipes. Not forgetting the 2 U-shape pipes at master bedroom toilet also must change because all pipings are linked. So for me, i am quoted by the Term Contractor to change all the 4 U-shape pipes for $720. What your $900 consist of? As mentioned above, HDB will only change the vertical pipe for free. For me i am considering changing only the vertical pipe. My principle is "if the thing is not spoilt, dun try to fix it" Yes, this is what i thought so... i think the Term Contractor is only trying to earn my money only....
  16. One thing for sure, from the picture, the first one looks easier to clean But if you are into fengshui and stuff, it is not too good to have many red things in your house, because red represent 'fiery', may affect one's mood and may cause disharmony. But it matches your sofa. For the price u r paying for the sofa, dun think so much liao, spoil just change!
  17. I am not doing any wardrobe. From what i see, there isn't any carpentry works that is done all the way to ceiling one. Even the wardrobe i intend to buy is not full height. Spending $1000 plus on something which i am not needing now seems like a luxury to me. I had considered the trouble of aircon installation after renovation is done though. Maybe Pinkpetter can give me more insights to this. Thanks!
  18. Aircon to me is like the hood, most likely be a white elephant. At most on extremely hot weathers like mid year period, i will on the aircon just to get me to sleep after which i switch to fan. Um..
  19. Huh, then not quite justifiable to change the bracket already.... didnt know it is so bulky... cos when i was still staying in a 3 room some 7 years ago, we never had any aircon. For the past 7 years we have been staying in 4 rooms with aircon but aircon still under utilised. I can switch on the Fan all night. Considering not installing aircon for now. Dunnn whether in future running the aircon trunkings will be very difficult a not...
  20. I am also asking my contractor to give me a quotation for the wall-to-wall false ceiling for dining area... before start work *sweat*. If dun do false ceiling for dining area, then another alternative will be to have the L-box extended all the way to cover the dining area also, so visually u get a very long.... living+dining area. But the old doorway ceiling beam will be there, very ugly....
  21. The Contractor says grille will be installed after... eh.. i forgot..... but he says not now... :-p Who will provide the new bracket? The aircon contractor? Will the new kind of bracket be less bulky?
  22. My ID quote more expensive, nearly double... dunno why... So better to go blum showroom, get them to advise what parts to buy, take down the part no. or model no. then go dealer side to check it out! If you want to save the hassle.. then just go thru your contractor lo....
