  1. Hmm I did share my thoughts on this already.. see here nope, but generally if you want less "responsibility", you use the one your ID recommends, but make sure the price is not overkill.
  2. how else do you expect him to 'earn' money? it's inevitable when people are willing to pay money to 'contractors' without HDB license. when there's demand, there's supply.
  3. just want to update, confirmed my hacking contractor, Designer House. $1000 for hacking of 52 ft of wall, inclusive of HDB permit (they are pretty fast on the application of HDB permit too, at least for me) and clearing of debris. also want to share something i am interested to add to my house.. an Air-tight rubbish chute hopper! MAXDEN manufactures a patented Air-Tight Rubbish Chute Hoppers The most common complaint about rubbish chute hoppers is that cockroaches and foul odours could infiltrate into the residential apartments, thus contaminating it with germs, mold, bacteria and other invisible undesirables. MAXDEN has solved this problem! It has incorporated a patented, self-sealing, magnetic-pneumatic gasket into its hopper design. This Air-Tight rubbish chute hopper will shut out cockroaches. Guaranteed! Features PSB - approved 1/2 hr fire-rating - Tested to Singapore standard ISO 3008: 1976, BS 476 part 22:1987 - Stainless steel hairline finish - Air-tight, self-closing - 3 years warrantly - MAXDEN 1 Normanton Park #02-157 Singapore 118998 Tel : +65 6278 3552 Fax : +65 6377 0284 Email : enquiry@maxden.com.sg
  4. it's called HUGE profit margin if a shop is in a mall, or has many employees, be rest assured that the profit margin will be high. if you want bargain items, look for shops not in a mall and with few employees. please share the contact info for this chair shop. could be helpful for others looking to buy chairs or collect chairs to resell at lower values
  5. a. erm gypsum boards usually come in a big sheet. you can use 1 piece to cover all 3 holes. but maybe you can consider DIY? go to dama.com.sg and ask them to quote you for acrylic sheet (give them required dimensions) and then you just have to use liquid nails to glue it in confirm cheaper than $100. (i assume the size you need is 2ft by 2 ft) haiz. b and c looks like chop carrot to me, but too many people also kenna chopped so most people won't care bargain b and c down to $300 (not inclusive of constructing wall down) what is your wall down? you want to replace the door with a wall? what kind of wall? partition board or hollow-block or air-entrained concrete?
  6. your contractor earn so much from your reno, don't need to earn from paint paint no commission one, but with/without contractor also same price
  7. how much does it cost to install the rubbish chute hopper? do they replace for you or do you get your hacking guys to remove it?
  8. you did not sign direct with the laminate guy? if you do, you should be able to get 10-20% discount and they should list the details on your invoice like underlay etc i think they just want you to pay more 0.80 psf adds up to a lot... my flooring only 3.30+gst psf, pricing includes door trimming, delivery and installation. Your underlay already 25% of my total laminate price. How much did you pay for Inovar and why did you choose them?
  9. Manhattan card gives 5% cash rebate for purchases above $3000... better than Mickey's Yes that's a RJ22 adaptor, and you can take it out and it will be cheaper. Actually the standard Eubiq tracks are cheaper than the newer table top track that you initially chose.
  10. telephone thingy? what's that. you mean a RJ22 adaptor? Eubiq is modular so you can take it out if you don't want it.
  11. D1.1 cement base - do you really want cement base? this will limit your choices in future. but this is a personal preference. your MBR vanity base costs about the same as your kitchen cabinet base, your kitchen is 17ft length but your vanity is not as long. overcharge for MBR vanity base? i don't see your carpentry for vanity, not dimensions of vanity, not solid surface for vanity, nor installation of vanity sink. please check. D2. kerb (costs $$80.00 per entrance kerb with waterproofing) bargain it down! E. can't comment much, can you state the size of your place and indicate how much it costs psf? since no hacking mentioned, i presume you're overlaying. F1. your bomb shelter storage is very expensive at $2750.. is it your WIW or just a storage? if just storage, your children shouldn't go in.. just child-proofing the door is sufficient. but this is a personal preference. F2. ensure you have soft-closing/dampeners. see ikea for inspiration. at your $110 price, these should be included. otherwise $100 psf is for basic kitchen F3.1. again, soft-closing/dampeners, bargain to $250. F3.2 and 3. acrylic shouldn't cost so much.. check out www.dama.com.sg and ask them for quote. alternatively, ask pang giap for quote www.panggiap88.com.sg/acrylicdoors.html F4 and F5 seems to be missing. F6.1. this price is $800 compared to F3.1 which is $400. why double in price for the same item? $800 is too pricey for this item, $250 is more reasonable. F6.2. 2ft wardrobe at $800? that's $400 psf, which is... high. usually IDs charge $200 pfr for wardrobes. some contractors charge as low as $100 pfr. so bargain it down to $400 instead F7.1 and F7.2 have no price? or is it combined with F6.1 and F6.2. this is a weird way to put pricing... should separate it. F8.1. does not mention dimensions of glass door. get the dimensions and call Besglas and Sun Sun glass for quotation. G is seriously overpriced. call Wellmax for quotation H. Painting seems ok, standard price. but if it's me, i'd pay someone $80/day to do it for me I looks okay J seems a bit fuzzy, no indication of number of switches.. points.. i don't think it's buffet style right? K. dunno much about cornices, sorry
  12. happy for you do take pictures
  13. holland drive is just opposite my house, which shop did you go to got discount?
  14. mm ventilation + window = $200. no ventilation, window only, should be less than $200. if your ID charge you $250, maybe it's cheaper to do it outside. anyway louvre windows are not good because they collect dust and let insects in. you should call them for a quote
  15. they remove the whole front cover for servicing? if so, maybe you can put the silicon in when they remove the cover
  16. thanks, i know about the 100-day return policy but these items are AS-IS, so no refunds. i'm not trying to refund, i want them to wrap the items (as promised) and to make good (whatever damages caused due to their fault) because to me, this seems like misrepresentation. manager just called me to say (paraphrased) : we did wrap the items at our side but before items were delivered, we unwrapped it and delivered it unwrapped my reply : it could be that the items were wrapped and delivered unwrapped, or that the items were not wrapped and were delivered unwrapped. either case, the item is damaged because the item was unwrapped, which is not as promised. i see it delivered unwrapped when i was promised wrapped, and i see damage, so that's a problem. shall see how it pans out. worst case situation is to relaminate
  17. individual workers on a sidenote... Ikea delivery (PTC) didn't deliver as promised. Both the Ikea sales personnel and the PTC sales personnel assured me that my items would be properly wrapped in plastic before delivery but out of 4 items, only 1 item was partially wrapped to prevent the drawers from falling out while moving. This lack of protection caused damage to 1 item (from what I can see). I called them to resolve and they promised to call me back within 10 minutes but no response in the last 30 minutes. This is rather disappointing.
  18. i seriously hope so 14-21 dec : hacking. 21dec-21 jan : major reno.
  19. er my review will only come next year my reno haven't even start hacking (hopefully start in 10 days time!!!) but i did read up on it before i decided what configurations to use see this link and this link
  20. maybe you should call the company you paid (gain city?) to complain and ask for partial refund for misrepresentation. imho, it's possible that the installers are trying to pull a fast one on you, gain city may not even know it. as for the gap, ever considered using white silicon to seal it up? ask your contractor to do it FOC or you can DIY.
  21. so all the runners, drawers and shelves are from ikea, and the rest (carcass, worktop and fronts) are from your ID's carpenter? interesting concept, i always enjoyed ikea kitchen items so i am making an ikea kitchen yours is semi-ikea. i hope you redeemed the $20 voucher for every $200 spent on ikea kitchen that's a 10% rebate already. ikea uses blum, it's good rationell is just a range of kitchen products (like the shelves, partitions) the anti-slam is actually blum in ikea clothing
  22. bought together with Dell™ V313W Wireless All-In-One Inkjet total cost $848.16
  23. from what the sales people tell me, just ask your electrician to build a 1-gang (without the base and face plate) at the place where you want to place your eubiq and it'll be sufficient. no need to get aircon type (unless you using eubiq for aircon ) if you wanted to wall mount on kitchen, should have just bought the standard track like mine. this type is more for tv consoles/study if your space is big. but my place 3rm so all my eubiq (kitchen, living room, dining, mbr) are all standard tracks.
  24. i've always wondered on the quality of ikea laminates. do share how it works out in the future kinda expensive, imho
