btw, take a look at this link to compare between different worktops. http://www.natural-stone.com/granitevscorian.html but for granite, i won't recommend it because there are seams and when the silicon wears out within 1-2 years, water will seep into the bottom cabinet and cause waterlogged cabinets. solid surface is seamless, if you want to make it look like new, just get it re-polished for a small fee. no issues with waterlogged cabinets.

Copper used to be cheaper, but since the price of copper went up, it's slightly more expensive now. Most plumbers would charge the same for stainless steel or for copper. They used to charge higher for stainless steel Copper is preferred by plumbers as it can be easily bent. My house is mostly stainless steel, except for the part that leads from the shower lever to the instant heater and from the shower lever to the water pipe. I don't paint it.
