  1. If you DIY, can if not DIY, sure chop your carrot
  2. Mmmm actually if you have holes in L-box, you can switch on one light and have both effects of cove lighting and down lighting at the same time! energy saving I use light diffuser from www.dama.com.sg
  3. paiseh, i haven't research T8 prices yet just buy cheap cheap $1 tubes can liao:D
  4. Normal partition board is cheapskate Concrete wall can be used to hang heavy things, better for soundproofing, nail anywhere no problem. As for partition board, if water infiltrates, gone case. If knock on it, got hollow sound. Cannot hang heavy things like wall cabinets or fume hood. The partition board and the concrete wall/beam will expand/contract differently so paint cracks will be an issue. Anyway, I don't intend to re-arrange my kitchen much so this is a permanent change. My rearrangement of layout will only happen in the living room area
  5. if i don't diffuse, it won't look good if you want cheap and classy, have to diffuse the cove light can only throw light in 1 direction, it doesn't throw downwards. If you want to throw downwards, your L box must have holes to let light travel downwards. Know what i mean?
  6. I like it the hydraulics are still good, after a year of use. But the internal laminate is paper-thin. i tried to clean it before use but damaged it... I use it for long-term storage of dry stuff, like winter wear, travel accessories As for price, i bought the queen size spring mattress (one side hard, one side soft) plus storage bed for $800+ in total. Pretty worth it.
  7. yea. surprising right? plastering powder is also very cheap.
  8. i have a similar one, but no bubbles, just smooth leather. bubbles might be harder to clean. do note that it's very high so you may have to jump into bed
  9. Please see my space planning for location of new wall
  10. i presumed cove lighting was not meant to brighten your room sufficient for reading because light reflected off the ceiling is diffused and not able to brighten the whole place. My suggestion of 2x 4ft T8 would be sufficient to light up the whole room if you don't reflect off the ceiling. I intend to diffuse it at the source, so no reflection is necessary. 4ft T8 need not be 40W Read this.
  11. of course s/s. government uses s/s too
  12. you planning to replace the pipes? i would
  13. Day 6 3 man today brought up the raw materials, compacted the debris, removed ceiling wallpaper Total cost for the day's work: $300 Accumulated cost for labour: $600 Total cost for raw materials: $1055 Total reno bill as of now: $2655
  14. i suggest 2 tubes of T8. T5 is more expensive, but less wattage and less bright.
  15. today I found out that the pvc corner strip costs $1 for 2m For my 3-rm flat, I bought 50 strips. For corners of beams and walls.
  16. i saw them yesterday already, thanks though. didn't get them as they don't come with the hydraulic arms. they're old series. new series have hydraulic arm at $85 for brand new. $40 for non-brand new without hydraulic is imho expensive
  17. Just found out that a standard rubbish chute costs $80 think i'll just DIY the magnetic part
  18. Day 5 Hacked a bit more, went to buy raw materials Total cost for the day's work: $200 Accumulated cost for day's work: $300 Total cost for raw materials: $1055 Total reno bill as of now: $2355
  19. Yes, hydraulic arm comes together with glass shelf and cabinet frame. If you buy the small one (70cm x40cm), it's $75. Big one (92cm x40cm) is $85. If you only want the hydraulic arm, you can buy the small one. But doesn't come with door. Doors are sold separate. You mean Ikea sell more expensive than Blum?!?!? I feel sad
  20. Day 4 Was expecting many workers but only 1 worker was around. All wooden structure hacked, some parts of wall hacked to expose RC beam, gas pipe. Total cost for the day's work: $100 All in all, rather pleased at the workmanship I have to figure out how to clear the debris. Will be going to purchase the building materials tomorrow. Hope the floor tiles will be completely removed by tomorrow morning.
  21. just an update that the Ikea delivery was good today no scratches observed.
  22. you have to pay a deposit because 3D drawings are "purchased". they submit your floorplan to a 3D artist (freelance or company) who will do the 3D drawings. they will charge the ID company a certain amount (probably $50-100 per drawing) so you need to put deposit otherwise they will lose money if you don't engage them to do your reno
  23. but placed under your kitchen cabinet.. prone to scratch also no problem, can't see
  24. $4 for whole set?!? Ikea selling at $9 INTEGRAL door damper for hinge $9.00/ 2pack
