i posted something on how my tiles were screed. see here
-
erm. you want me to get better price for you? whether to overlay or not depends on your existing flooring. if it's level and not hollow, don't hack it! if it's uneven/hollow, you have to screed it. hacking is not necessary.

you should post pics
-
your glass shower screens are already installed? thought you had problems with this.

it's very very good soaked 2 days no bubbles. see my tblog for latest pics. who's your sales person? why is it so expensive? are you getting the Pergo Expression range? why reduced floor space? did he calculated wrongly or you decided to do less? well, keys can't scratch it, only when i use cleaver then i see fine marks, but when i touch it, i don't feel it. i soak it in water for 2 days, no change observed yes, it's better quality than 'normal' laminates.

carpenter should only come at the last stage. your house still looks very incomplete, shouldn't ask carpenter to come. maybe you are the first client ask for a discount. but most likely your hubby is free labour. did they charge you a lot for hacking wall tiles? hollow blocks cost $0.70 per piece, air entrained concrete costs $2 per piece, i never ask how much partition wall costs, but it's the cheapest option. ask for a 50% discount for this item. at this price, you can hire a uni grad to paint your EM if you use good paint, will cost about $800 for the paint alone. but usually contractors don't give you good paint... painting should take maybe 5 days so will cost another $400. think your $1100 contact is using cheap paint. that's why i rather source out to the sub-cons directly... PVC and stainless about $10 difference only, but usually they will just give the cheaper alternative think it's better that you tile it all up, otherwise next time you want to change mirror, have to get same size or bigger. i agree totally. with a contractor you pay top dollar and can only hope for the best. if you be your own contractor, you can choose to get the best at the best price. personally, i think newspaper contacts may not be the best even if the quote seems low at first. think you can save about 50% if you DIY. so sorry for all your distress. maybe i should start a reno consultancy and help you in your next reno

for the package, you can get recessed kind too if you want. but exposed type is more suitable for my usage. there's no difference in price.

parquet and marble are able to be polished so they are premium products. but personally i find laminate more child-proof in high-usage areas.

welcome to RT looks interesting, ever considered leaving the kitchen link to the main door open instead of sealing it up? also, worried about the washing machine blocking the rubbish chute.

it is ethical because the more you ask them to do, the more they are responsible to you (of course the more you pay) when i first tried to look for id/contractor, i already told them i'll want to get my own laminate, electrical, plumbing, glass works, aluminum works, window works, carpentry, get my own tiles. eventually, i only ask my finalised contractor to just do hacking because i realised i could do the rest at a cheaper cost yet better materials.

electrical works are to be done after sealant paint , before the carpentry is in. carpentry generally can be used for concealment of trunking so carpentry will be last. if you intend to have your switches concealed in your carpentry, you have to coordinate with your electrician and carpenter to ensure that the electrician can connect the switches after the carpentry is up and that the carpenter must provide pre-drilled holes in the carpentry to allow the carpenter to run wires.

i see eubiq where did you get it from? ps. i'm moving in this friday too!!

of course lah. if he can give you 4 door when you want 3 door, ask him to give you a system 4 aircon for the price of a system 3 aircon and a 4-rm flat for the price of a 3-rm flat (in the same location) looks like he lost his sense of perspective

oh, different walls. heh sorry for highlighting it if you don't notice it, then nevermind lah. but i think if you pay for plastering, then the plastering should have some standard mah
