  1. SamTheMan I dun remember seeing Sealy & Simmons for less than 1k at Courts though. Even cheapest range also starts from 1k+. Anyway - whoever is shopping tis wkend - enjoy! Have a great weekend.
  2. MissyV I fully agree w/ u tat nt everybody can afford to go for expensive ones. Tats y las time when I first got my new hse, & we were budgeted, we had to do alot of homework, which was why we settled w/ a cheaper mattress first. Hmm, somebody had bad experience w/ Sealy? Or something else? I am fine w/ it, anyway it's free expression in forum, & I also nv tgt anybody in specific. I am sure every business will have gd & bad feedback, because everybody's expectations are not the same. The feedback I gotten was nt just frm the salesppl bt also frm my gfs who shared wat they heard when shopping for a mattress.
  3. Hi Sammi Do you mean you bought it lately or when? The Magic Koil I had was 6yrs ago already & I bought it at IMM. Anyway tats history, & no point being angry if we were indeed being over-charged.
  4. Dear All May I just gv some comments? When I got married 5yrs ago, we were very tight on budget, hence bought from a shop at IMM, a Magic Koil Orthopaedic mattress. Back then the price was close to 1k. We tot it was rather comfy until 3yrs later, we started hearing some springs squeaking. We tried to tahan sleeping on it cos afterall 1k for 3yrs when it's said warranty for 10yrs. Till tis yr, hb couldn't take it anymore. His backache was getting worse. No choice, we've decided to do some mattress shopping. I also found the Top 10 mattress link & went ahead & target at the few big brands. We tried Simmons, Slumberland, Serta & we didn't quite like it. Then we tried on Sealy & given clear explanation on how the coil system works, we were certain this would suit us best in terms of value for $$. The lady actually asked if we were side or back sleeper & frm there she recm the appropriate firmness for us. Besides Sealy holds a 10yr guarantee (not warranty) on their coil system. They also assured, a gd mattress will not keep u tossing whole night thru. Guarantee -> if there is any defect on the coil, no qns ask & they will do a 1 to 1 exchange or something similar if the model is obselete. No extra costs involved. Warranty -> they can b at ur service bt w/ charges applicable Since the day we started sleeping on it 2mths back, hb & I + my boy hv been sleeping on the mattress. & it's true, my boy hardly tossed & I hv nt heard hb complaining backache like he used to do. Gd mattress is worth investing, if you can afford. We try to convince ourselves, 3k+ over 10yrs over 365 days, how much is the mattress worth only? & the lady commented, a gd mattress can even last as long as up to 15yrs. Some of my gfs bought Simmons & they also liked it v much - Beautyrest I think. My gf's cousin paid a 12k mattress at Robinsons somemore.. I would hv bought the Unicased range if we hv much $$ to afford; hb was so tempted to pay via instalments for a 7k mattress! After all these shopping, then we understand y would some ppl pay so much for a mattress cos the comfort is there. Ur back is impt, dun let a too cheap mattress ruin it or u will regret for the rest of the live. In terms of firmness, it's v individual, some ppl like the super plush feel of the mattress, while some like to slp on super firm mattress. For me, I rather take a medium range. Anyway as days go by we your mattress seasons, it will also get softer. Do note - latex is def more durable & airier interms of memory foam. If u r comparing Courts, Taka, vs the boutiques, I was told, those range at dept stores are custom-made for them. It's still their brands, just tat it's nt the same. You can say the range in boutiques are the Premium range. If u want a difference, go for Premium at the boutiques; if not pay a visit at the dept stores. Few mths back Robinsons actually did a trade-in offer of $600, on top of their promo price. Do check out wats on offer at the dept stores b4 u sign on the dotted line. We bought our bedframe at Courts Bt Timah, King size for abt $800. Those at boutiques were nt exactly manufactured by them; they all also prob took frm the same supplier & put them under their brand. Hence the lady told us, if we can find a cheaper one outside by all means. Happy shopping
  5. wow Yhanie so now wat is incl in ur 25k reno quote? Sure is a gd deal..... Yest went to meet up w/ another 2 IDs, quotes also 40+k. U didn't do any built-in shoe cabinets nor those fanciful feature walls is it? Are you changing the flooring? Later shall go & meet up w/ another ID, hopefully I can c something more valuable....
  6. Wow, yhanie, then 25k is cheap leh.... when you said or all the rooms - wat did you do? Care to share? Did you hack away the flr & redo? So far the quotes I've gotten was at least 35k! Ur EA is along the corridor? How come I dun c any windows for the living rm? It sure is big.... Can play hide & seek in the hse. My hb's ex-coll also bought an EA fw mths back at Bt Batok, valued 520k bt they nego til 490k to close. Bt also low flr lah... bt big too, at 144sqm. hw many children did u hv, y need a big flat? I tot usually ppl w/ smaller families will go for a small one, cos more subsidies & easier to maintain. Everybody's telling me, PUB bills & everything all sure increase when I start staying in EA. Is tat true?
  7. Dear All I m a newbie here... To my understanding, recently there has bn a long Q for hdb submissions. Hence the wait can be as long as up to about 3mths. My agt submiited one on 21 Jul & the EARLIEST date he gotten for his seller was 7 Oct. So u can imagine, tats abt 10wks of wait. It's also true tat agts can play around w/ the date for 1st appt. Bt given the situation now, 10 - 12wks is the min wait. For us, we compromise w/ our sellers & buyers cos we r doing a contra, so end up when my agt submiited for us las wk, our appt is towards end Oct, approx 3mths (12wks).
  8. Wowo yhanie, your EA is big!!!!! Hw many yrs flat is that? I guess is the older type ones right? Tats def a gd buy, though I m nt familiar w/ Tampines. is it high flr? Erm, 25k for reno, so little? or is it the other bedrms - u r nt tearing down???????
  9. Yes, I agree w/ Mrspiglet's saying. My fren hse is NS facing, supp to b the best for FS, bt then hb & she dun suit... hence to find a better one.
  10. hi 8182 May I ask who is ur ID? Someone gave me a contact for i-chapter also. Are you able to advice or comment on their pricing? Hw is their workmansip - gd? Thks.
  11. wah... chim.. Bt it's gd to hear these being highlighted, so tat those who wanna do can make take into consideration. Anyways, I shall ask mY FS if he knows abt this.... xiezi - I know wat smell u are talking abt.. my BS smells, tats y till nw - we dun entirely lock it, will leave a gap for it to ventilate. Haiz, sad to say, my new hse faces the living rm again, then I hv to purposely add feature wall to cover it. If it's facing the kitchen then I will hv some savings le.
  12. Yes, we've asked ourselves many times - big flr area - ulu-er, we wnt? Or smaller plc - closer to amenities? In the end we decide to hv amenities, cos our boy always wanna go 'shopping'. *faint*. Since hb also may nt drv me to work, I need to b closer to those places. I stay in Senja & my mum was screaming like mad.... so we hope our nx rot-nest can make her happier. Long story lah.... We actually tot of getting the EC at Chestervale & redo cos the interior fixtures sucked. Though it's like 100k diff, bt this also means $400 more frm cof + it's bank loan. Too risky lor... bt some of my gfs were saying I m silly to pay 500k for an EA where we could hv gotten a pte. After serious thinking, nt so silly afterall lah... cos bank rates fluctuates, if it gets to 5% I think I will worry big time. I told myself & hb, we stay in big flat nw, nx time when our kids grow up & hardly spend time w/ us, then maybe we can upgrade to a condo bt smaller unit; @ the same time hv the facilities to keep us occupied. ha ha ha.... I guess Bangkit EAs are like 400+? Those at Gangsa rd were nt v exp either.. bt too bad, nt many EAs are on sale. We want to hv spaec enuff for 4 bedrms which was y min flr area must be 120sqm. Bt I dun hv a big lorry of kids yet, only hv 1 as of now.

    Diy Mosiac

Dear All I would like to revive this thread a little. I m soon to be doing our new hse & I was telling ID we want to play ard w/ mosaic. Bt then I know mosaic is more exp than any other tilesl If tats the case, do u think it's possible for us to buy & gv them instead? I've once watched Mark Lee & Bryan Wong's Home Decor Survival & they went to a shop to buy & DIY. Do you know which one was that? Also, do you know roughly hw much it will cost for IDs to charge u on mosaic vs buy ourselves? Is it difficult to ay mosaic tiles? They come in flat pcs one & can sell loose? Thks for all your contribution in advance.
  14. preciousjam - just saw... u r at Bangkit. me nearer to BPP. No choice, we prefer to b near the amenities. Bt we paid a high price for it lah... My mum was screaming like mad, saying we r gila to pay tat price. Well, it makes my life a whole lot easier leh... no need to walk out, sheltered to the interchange & future mrt is there! I m used to hv eatery & convenience stores dwnstairs (Senja) & I can't live w/o them. ....................
  15. Hey Preciousjam - which part of BP are you at???? When r u shifting in? Doing reno already or soon? Ware r u currently staying?
  16. Wah.. arsoon, ur view on ppl who hv WIW is v strong leh.... erm.... to me, nt quite true lor.... Anyway I shall nt comment on this anymore, if nt skali accidentally offend ppl then I die big time liao.

  18. ha ha ha, i read salar, thought nobody is in BP.
  19. After reading this thread, I also emailed them for a proposal. Cross-fingers that I can see something nice frm them. Thks ya for helping me in my shortlist!
  20. I will be staying at Jelebu. Am also a BP-stayer now but moving out to a bigger unit. Wow, ur EA is big! Where do you stay? Jelapang, Fajar or Bangkit? Or Gangsa?
  21. asoon88, y do you say those husbands who can do walk-in wardrobes are financially better-off? I dun understand. U mean who can hv affair??? Or u mean they can physically afford to make a WIW in the hse?????
  22. Dear All thank you so much for your input. For my hse, I will nt purposely knock down one room to make a walk-in. To elaborate wat I meant, cos I hv a deep u-shape area, abt 1.5m where the ID said maybe can do a U-shape wardrobe, making it look like a walk-in & then add on a door to cover the wardrobe area. I wun put my wardrobe near the bathrm either cos of moist frm the bathrm. I hate the smell of undried clothes also! Feel like puking. Ha ha ha....
  23. Dear All I m planning to do window grilles & bedrm doors & maybe even bathrm doors. Hw much roughly does it cost to do white powder coated window grilles for an EA? Care to share? As mine is a resale, I was thinking of changing all the bedrm doors bt ID said dun waste the $$, chk on the condition first.
