I havent tried this model but normal experience is that in 5-1000$ range its hard to get a very good sounding Amp. Manufacturers concentrate on putting in lots of features but compromise on audio components. The transformer is poor, not good enough shielding of audio components, low grade sound processing chip etc. In the end sound quality suffers. If you have good speakers you will notice the difference. But on budget "Home theater in box" kind of speakers, it sounds decent. A normal user who hasnt heard a reference system, might even be very happy with the sound.

Anyone compared the prices of those shiny silver mosaic tiles for bathroom. Which place cheapest?

I am keeping the old ACs for my 9yr resale flat(SengKang 258) since they are working fine. Dont have budget to change. I have 3 units for each room and 2 units for living.

You could also visit Evov Living at Balestier road. But I think after going through so many shops you would have got a good idea of the designs available in market these days. Now its all about your budget and design/builld priorities. I have similar constraints. Personally I am looking for better quality over better design when trying to accomodate things in my budget. For example when selecting a lounge chair.. A Full Leather/Steel Barcelona chair at Evov is around 900+$ A more simple leather/steel chair at Cellini is 350$ I like Barcelona design more...and I can even buy a PU/Chrome version of it for around 4-500$. But I am opting for the Cellini, as I prefer the durability of leather/stainless steel.

Good post. Do you know whats the leather used by local brands like Cellini/Lorenzo ? I have compared them with other "reasonably priced" brands....best was the "Massarato" leather used by Furniture Club. Feels much better(soft/supple) than the leather used by Cellini/Lorenzo. Furniture Club price is also bit higher, but for certain models you can get an L shaped 3m sofa for around 3K+

I got for 230$ and 180$... Average quality ones.

I think u will sweat on a fabric sofa as well because you dont have enough cooling in your room. Just the difference is that in fabric sofa the sweat will be absorbed so you wont feel the wetness. In my opinion thats worst. Makes the fabric soiled...
-
I dont get this argument about a sofa being cooling... I have a leather sofa and its as hot or cold as the room temperature is. It doesnt have a built in heater or cooler. Neither does a fabric sofa. If you dont want to sweat, make sure you have adequate cooling fan or aircon in your room. Without that in hot weather even if you stand on floor, you will sweat If you have to buy a leather sofa, buy it for other reasons like it being durable and more "child tolerant". Dont buy the cheap PU stuff. It doesnt last.

I am living in Bendemeer currently, but soon moving to SengKang. Worried about the distance from city and extra time spent commuting. But otherwise SengKang is more family friendly and suits more laid back lifestyle.. Especially more room for kids to play. Currently house right next to major roads with traffic 24/7. Very noisy.

Do a search on google and youtube. You will get detailed guides. Much cheaper to do it yourself.

So many Sengkang people. Me too. Bought 5i in 258 block, Compassvale Road. Next to MRT. I think next year, some part of the kite flying field will be converted to a cricket ground. There is also a wet market coming up there. Lots of good amenities around ...main reason why I bought there. Will be moving in around December start. Transaction will complete in October first week, but its a contra case. So seller needs one extra month of stay. Will start my own blog a bit later. Though I have already selected ID and started shopping for furniture. Best of luck with your reno. Looking at some posts here...need lots of luck to get everything done to our expectations.

Thats expensive.... Whats wrong with using Harpic?? If Harpic cant remove, dont think any Cola will. Yes if you are locked up in your house, cannot buy a cleaning product and only have Cola in fridge. Then sure try it

why not put lights on the wall? Can put on opposite walls for evenly lit effect. Also have one bed side lamp.
-
Can get carpets at CarreFour also. Around 4-500$ range. Can get 5% discount on POSB everyday card.
-
If you like..then why not... Can save some money. Just check if they give any warranty. I think not.
-
Yes, same design can be found in different shops at different prices...but cheapest ones are definitely cheap for a reason. They use poor material and workmanship. So dont just compare by price, check material and manufacturing source too.
-
Curtain cloth got so many different variety. Very hard to compare price. I paid around 1300$ for living room night curtain in living room(3m), one string curtain(2m) and a custom made cushion. But material is very good, made in Germany. Got from a shop in Balestier.
-
You might be right about the manufacturing source ...but I have no doubt that their leather is much better than what I saw at Cellini/Lorenzo. Even a layman like me could see that. Soft supple leather indeed feels different. Anyway i ended up buying at Cellini, because I found their sofa more value for money. But if I didnt have a budget and was looking for better quality, I would have bought at Furniture Club or Castilla design.

Ikea - No Free Deliveries And Added Storage Charges
bergkamp replied to fatmian's topic in Home Furnishings
True. I too support Ikea No need order early from them. Infact thats an advantage. Can always buy stuff off the shelf. Not like some others where you order and then they start sourcing from outside Singapore. With some decent planning, you can always buy stuff when you need it from Ikea. It is also good because you know exactly what you want. Lot of times people buy before reno completes and then later realize the furniture doesnt match/fit size. -
Whats your budget? Leather or fabric? Furniture Club, Evo Living, Castilla Design, Species have some excellent designs on higher price range. Cellini, Lorenzo, Om, Barang Barang, Picket and Rail are a bit cheaper. For anything cheaper, you would be compromising on quality. You can visit their websites to get an idea about designs.

LCD or Plasma TV
bergkamp replied to sakae sushi's topic in Sound and Vision -Home Theatre Systems & Audiophiles
Plasma does get hot but it is certainly not a room heater. I have a plasma and use it without ac all the time. If you ask me, plasma is anyday better than LCD for sports/movies. But you must trust your eyes and do a side by side test in showrooms. -
If AVR says no data, then DVD player is not outputing the digital audio signal. Most probably an incorrect configuration setting in your DVD player. Make sure in the audio settings, the output mode is Digital. In the RCA output, only yellow cable is for video. Red and white are stereo outs. You dont have to connect them to your TV now. Also try to upgrade to a better video output like S Video or Component (If your projection TV supports it).

That sort of a normal experience at most furniture shops I have been to. Last day of sale, unbeatable discounts..etc. Guess its nature of their business and way they are trained. Positive point is that they will fill you in on any info you require like dimensions, price, material. Apart from the design and price itself, all other information is also necessary for making final buying decision. You just have to do your browsing, ask them questions, show interest and in end politely refuse to commit. Best is to say you like some designs but have to consult your ID before confirming. You are the customer who is paying, so dont let any salesman bully you into buying.

Cheap.. My 3 seater sofa itself from Cellini is around 1400$
