  1. Hi..welcome to renotalk. Can you post bigger pics? Easier to see the details clearly. Design looks nice. I guess you are still in process of furnishing as the house looks a bit bare.
  2. Arent those Matt/rough finish tiles difficult to maintain in Bathroom? More difficult to scrub/clean !! But they difinitely look nice.
  3. Excellent. We will be neighbours then. How much did you pay for your flat? Yours will be a big reno project then. Do blog your experience and perhaps we can share ideas. My reno will start only in Nov mid.
  4. all info on their website www.lightings.com.sg I will probably end up buying from them as well.
  5. Congrats, your reno results are very nice. Home looks very classy now.
  6. Yes very expensive... 405 + 8K And its only 4th floor !! Bit of a record price for similar flats, when I check the HDB resale transaction history....
  7. Thanks for the pics Rammi. Very nicely done. Like that cosy settee. Perfect reading corner. Your rooms have a very bright, refreshing and airy feel to them.
  8. I think they can do only for ceramic tiles. For stuff like marble..definitely no acid wash. Cannot let acid touch your steel/chrome fittings either. WC and wash basin should be ok. Your contractor should no. If you are not sure, better not do the acid wash. I dont think its necessary.
  9. No....Compassvale Road, BLK 258 next to MRT. You got similar design? How do you utilize the "triangular" corners?
  10. Yes the common bedrooms are wierd shaped. Only reason I can think of for such crazy designs is that HDB dont want windows of adjacent buildings facing each other directly. I wont be doing anything to them right now. One will serve as a study and other child room.
  11. Kitchen (will retain same) Master Bathroom (complete makeover)
  12. Photos of existing house. Very nicely kept Living (Complete makeover) Master Bedroom (New cupboard and some lights. Will retain bed)
  13. Finally got a chance to start my own reno blog. Since this is my first reno project, it will be useful to bounce ideas off other forum members and probably avoid any obvious mistakes. I finalized my resale flat(5I Anchrovale Road) deal in June end but the process has dragged on. Its a contra case and seller needs to stay for a month+ after completion, till his new flat is ready. So I have to wait till Nov mid to start my reno and hopefully move in by Dec mid. So still got a couple of months before my reno starts. Have finalized my ID, Desmond from *****. Had also consulted IDs from Ideal House, Xerxes, Image etc. Finalized Desmond as he was the most experienced and displayed better technical expertise. Although Orangecube wasnt the cheapest quote I got, it was reasonable(after discounts) for the quality I expect. Them being an old reputed firm also gives me some confidence. My OrangeCube ID has changed now. Desmond just disappeared from Singapore.... Deciding the theme was difficult at first. The house is in very good condition and nicely maintained by existing owner. The existing decor is very Oriental. Marble/Dark Parquet floor, Teak/Rosewood furniture and Maroon/White shades. It was pleasant and I wanted to retain some of it....but it became difficult with the choice of contemporary furnishings that I wanted. Desmond did a drawing based on our initial ideas and none of us (including ID himself) liked it. So we decided to go for a more complete, contemporary makeover. Idea is to make changes to the Living room, master bedroom and master toilet. Rest I will leave as is, including kitchen. Just dont have the budget to change more right now. Here is the floor plan.
  14. I have had a leather sofa for 5 years from Casa Italy. Never felt that I was feeling hot because of sitting on sofa.
  15. I bought in June end...and prices had already shot up. I had to pay the premium for being so close to MRT. What can one do when valuation itself is 405K !! So overall you got a good deal. I say decor is dated because it has a very oriental feel to it. Teak , marble and maroon colours.... It is pleasant looking, but I want a more modern makeover for living. 56" KDK fan has 4 blades. 60" one has 5 blades. Both are 420$ + without installation. I want plain looking fans which dont attract attention.
  16. Just use a good water filter. Boiling water not really necessary.
  17. I will be getting my Dining set from Evov. Their Stainless Steel quality is really very eye catching. A 1.6m table(selected models) and 4 chairs package is around 1800$. Overshoots my budget a bit but the design and quality really very good compared to others I had seen in this price range. Also like some other stuff like side tables....but those will really blow my budget.
  18. Casa Italy has some cheap leather sofas less than 1.5K Should be reliable. Otherwise go for fabric....dont go for PU. Cheap PU is really bad.
  19. Welcome Ynove. Your floorplan very similar to mine...just that I dont have balcony. I am in 258 Compassvale Road. My move in date is also around your date. Should start my own blog soon. What block in Anchorvale are you in? I think your flat price very good. I got mine at 405+8K. Only 4th floor unit but very close to Compass Point. Mine is also move in condition, but the deco is quite dated. So need to do some reno to change the look of living room. I would be installing two(56") fans in living room..even though I have two aircons in there. Not sure how many BTU. Can switch on aircon sometime when guests are there, otherwise fan will do.
  20. Your floorplan so similar to mine ! My ID doesnt recommend the bathtub. Makes the bathroom look very cramped. Although if you really like lounging in a tub..I see no reason why you cant have it. Just get a good quality tub, sure wont leak.
  21. Biggest problem with floor standing fan is that it eats up floor space. Got wires on floor and not safe if you have kids. Plus the wind effect is more focused. Its fine if only one or two people need the "wind", but with more people you have to use the oscillating function which is a bit frustrating. Always wait for your turn to get air ! Ceiling fans provides more uniform distribution of air and I feel less noisy(though its depends on model). Ceiling fan is also a "permanent fixture" and usually IDs frown upon it as it doesnt quite go with modern themes. But I consider it a functional necessity as I stay on 4th floor. So must have it.
  22. I had my LG washer repaired recently. Had asked the repairman which brand he recommends....he suggested Hitachi. not sure if its a good thing or bad
  23. Interesting. At Balestier some of the LED downlights I checked were 100 plus already. 40-50 is the pricerange for normal energy saving lights !! Less than 10$ is super cheap. Definitely go for LED.
