  1. I dont think so. You can call up the JB dealers listed on KDK Malaysia website and ask.
  2. trunking in a pain. I would prefer a broader but less thick trucking..rather than the box shape one commonly used
  3. Bathroom wall tiles have been laid. Couldnt see properly because electricity to the flat has been turned off after all the new wires were laid. Reached the flat after it got dark ! The trunking on the ceiling of living room doesnt look nice. But got no option as I have to put ceiling fan and dont have false ceiling. Some HDB rules really frustrating.
  4. Electrician started work today and finished majority of it. Has laid out all the cables including about 50m of surround speaker wires I will have a 7.1 surround setup. My wife is not too happy about the speakers I am installing...but what to do !! Atleast I will be hiding all the wiring.
  5. Hi, I had rented a van. Was just a day visit, so not much rebate. For full rebate details you will have to check with customs authority. They gave me a small pamphlet...but I misplaced it. Best of luck with your venture.
  6. lucky I bought earlier in the year...otherwise prices would have been crazy now. Even when I bought they were bad...despite of the economic downturn. But SengKang area I dont think got so high COV.
  7. Thanks. Yes perhaps too well prepared. I started many months ago and it is only now that real work has started. Serious work like - colour selections - material selection - detail design final - where to place the light points - where to place aircon etc All happened very close to the actual start date of reno or even after start of reno...
  8. Master bathroom has been destroyed. Decided to go for a frosted tempered glass door instead of an aluminium bifold door for the bathroom. Costs me 500$ extra. Net 850$
  9. Has anyone used this Mr Varnish services? Any good? The 500$ promo for 3 bedroom(ad on renotalk) seems quite decent. My parquet in pretty bad state....discolour patches, scratches, gaps between blocks... Not sure if this sanding/repair service will be any useful !
  10. Really useful and just in time !! Will inform my electrician to make provision for this. I think I will be getting the network next June. Better to be prepared. Is the Cat 6 cable really necessary? I will have to rewire my house network it seems. Last time they used Cat 5
  11. Sad to hear about your trouble. I am having my own fair share. When you use different contractors to do different tasks at the same time, conflicts are likely to occur. Unless your ID very understanding type, s/he will not be happy coordinating with other contractors. I had similar experience with my earlier ID. Best of luck with your reno.
  12. Now my project is being handled by Chi Ho. Much happier now as the project is in capable hands. Hacking starts today.
  13. Day 2: ID called sick so couldnt meet her. Project Manager has filed for renovation permit. Apparently they didnt file for the permit earlier because there was no hacking involved. Now got hacking of bathroom floor tiles, so need permit. Would need 3-5 days to get permit. Hoping to finalize the carpentry works tomorrow. Aircon installation has to be pushed back because that can only be done after the bathroom is renovated. Thats because of the aircon drainage piping being changed. Schedule is already slipping and my stress mounting. Need to move in by 10th of Dec. Continuing with some DIY projects. - Paint the wooden beading in the living room. - Dismantle the teak cupboard in the MBR and shift it out !!
  14. Finally selected Toshiba. Liked it overall plus it was the only one immediately available. Have a short time window to install the aircon. Day 1: Had a site meeting with ID, ceiling guy, carpenter and electrician. First time the new ID visited my flat. Came up with lots of new problems. 1. The bathroom floor has already got overlaid tiles. So they have to hack the floor tiles. Hacking cost 400$ They cant retain the aluminium bifold door also, so need a new door. Cost: 350$ 2. Ceiling. The new L Box that was proposed was supposed to join two false ceilings at foyer and bedroom corridor areas. Apparently the ceiling is slanted, so the L Box cant be made at same level as false ceilings. So they need to hack the false ceilings and build new one. Cost: 600$ 3. Worst.... There are big movable cupboards in two of the bedrooms. Apparently they are around 7.1ft high (door 7ft) and too heavy to be shifted out of the bedroom. Need to be dismantled by some expert and then moved out in pieces... then reassembled So parquet varnish cannot be done till those items are cleared from rooms. 4. Since I am employing my own electrician, my ID's people wont lay the corrugated sheet on the floors. Thats something done by electricians.... (keep that in mind if you dont employ IDs electrician) I ended up laying that myself with my wife in living room. 2 hours of labour.. Atleast keep my living room marble safe. Now have to rethink about a lot of items considering the escalated costs. Have to leave some out to make up for escalated costs. So needs stay, wants go. Brilliant start to reno.
  15. I too am thinking of hacking the cornice and small false ceiling in my living room. Is it easy? Contractor asking 450$ just to hack it !
  16. Have decided to change my aircon. Got following quotes from Gain City Got the following quotes. Mitsubishi Starmex MSXY -4A28VA 30K MSXY-GA26VA 22K MSXY-GA10VA 9K x 3 3779$ + 1/2 inch insulation 150$ + G22 80$ + 1+4yr warranty 359$ Toshiba: RAS-M10SKCV x 3 RAs-M22SKCV X 1 Cost: 3859$ Other charges same as ME. Leaning towards Toshiba as its made in Japan and a newer more efficient model.
  17. I am looking for a system 4. Living quite big so need around 25K BTU for it. Got the following quotes. Any comments on quoted price?
  18. I had considered 3+1 option but its turning out to be too expensive. Not really worth as I wont turn on the living aircon very often. Settled for a system 4. Now I have to compromise on power...can only turn on aircon for one bedroom when living aircon is running. Can live with that. Cost almost 25% less.
  19. Getting the console design right has been a pain. Finally came up with some specs which meet the functional requirements as well as look ok... Now the ID will check if the carpenter can actually build this. Am already told that it will cost extra as its more complex to build compared to a regular console specified in the quote. Front view. Just the internal structure Front view with sliding doors Top view I got this idea of accessing the DVD storage from top. A drawer would be too troublesome to use. More so because depth of console is more than 1/2 meter.
  20. Excellent. Should pick up by 10th Dec if all goes to plan.
  21. That sounds like fun. I got good HiFi setup to keep them dancing
  22. Thanks..need some cheering up. One tough month and then relax on your Barcelona chair
  23. Here is a perspective drawing of my living room. The colours are not very accurate. Console design will change a bit. The two small speakers on top of console wont be there.
  24. Thanks for the tip. Elizabeth is now handling my project. Tight schedule. Hopefully it will turn out well.
