  1. I am looking for someone to repair my glass door hinge as well. I have taken out the hinge to DIY but can't find an exact match. Have searched all around the island. The holes on similar hinges that I found don't align with the drilled holes. Will be a pain to drill the holes again. Turning out to be quite painful to fix this problem. The glass door itself is super heavy around 40+kg. Anyone knows a handyman who can do this work? Have half a mind to dump the glass door and go for something simple. Only painful to thrown away the 700$ door.
  2. I got my electrician to buy the steel brackets. Cost 20$ per piece.
  3. Managed to set up my study as well. Fortunately the study table and Billy bookracks from Ikea fit in nicely. Rug also from Ikea. The Barcelona chair also fits in well. Thanks Newnyew for that. After all the hassle of reno...now I can just lay back and relax to some good music.
  4. Can understand the idea behind this feature. Noone wants to get stuck in a house on fire..where the lock wont open. But is that safe against some intruder who just heats up the lock with some flame from outside ?
  5. I got all my lights from this shop. Very good service and price. Dont have to waste time going up and down Balestier road looking for best price. Had a defective buld..they came to my home and replaced. Rest all fixtures working fine. Look for Kelvin at their new showroom in Balestier Point.
  6. Which block is yours? Not very far from mine
  7. This house looks better after hacking This will be one big mkeover. Maybe call the old owner for a tea at your house after you renovate it. He will be shocked
  8. Hi yes.. Thats fine. Sorry very busy lately between work and reno. Almost complete now. Some electrical switches to be changed and a leaking WC to be replaced. Will give a detailed report later. Got one photo of living room to share.. Still need to add a lot of stuff...HT system, painting, rug, cushions..
  9. !! Misread your comment. Just saw the photo with bulbs. Will check the T5 option. Sounds good.
  10. Thanks. Yes this would be perfect for evenly lighting up your face!!! But too many bulbs !! Also not quite matching the bathoroom theme !! Will try to post pics tomorrow once they install the vanity surface top. Then can suggest more.
  11. lot of work done since last update ! - Painting finished. - All carpentry works installed. - Lights installed Remaining - Final coat of paint - Ceiling fans - Bathroom accessories - Cleaning up - Floor varnish A bit disappointed with the lights in bathroom. I have all black tiles for the bathroom. There is a ceiling light 2x13W(daylight) and T5(Warm) lights behind the vanity mirror. Light is enough for overall bathroom but not enough on face of someone using the vanity. Problem is that the black tiles dont reflect light and T5s behind the mirror are wasted. Ceiling light also not enough.....the effect of light on face is very harsh. Not the soft warm light I was hoping for. Now not really sure. Will have to get a bigger ceiling light , maybe bigger T5s or maybe a new light on top of vanity mirror which is directed on face.!! Any suggestions from other people with dark bathrooms ??
  12. Thanks for that info. Will post pics tomorrow night after they finish. Very eager to see how the colours turn out. Had a tough time choosing from the Dulux catalogue.
  13. Painting to start today and finish by tomorrow ! Dont they need time for a coat to dry first ? Now have to wait how the colours turn out on the walls. Chosen mostly Light and Space colours.
  14. Yes I bought from them. Order arrived very nicely packed in around 2 weeks time. Just make sure you note what material paper they are using. The normal grade paper is not really that nice. They have special art prints on higher grade paper. Are more expensive but worth it. I bought the tree of life...really very nice. Now just have to get it framed.
  15. Yes that might be possible. Will ask my painter to give that a try.
  16. Yes I will give feedback to Gain City. I thought of applying sealant but the problem is that it might cause the front cover of the FCU to stick to the wall. Next time they want to remove the cover for servicing, the sealant will come off. The painting guys will be in today, let me see if they have a good solution.
  17. Yeah. Makes me feel that I didnt get my money's worth for the "upgrade". Should have warned us earlier that they wont use the thick insulation and G22 pipe everywhere. A bit surprised that I didnt come across this info anywhere before. Had to experience first hand ! Have to live with the gap behind aircon. Just dont want any creepy crawlers to hide behind that gap in future.
  18. Gap between the FCU and wall for living room unit Final covering up of FCU Installed compressor. Muscular and quiet
  19. Here are some photos of the action.. The Armaflex insulation 1/2inch Copper pipes, G22 and some lower gauge. View of living room. Ugly trunking for light and ceiling fan points Difference between the aircon(Toshiba) insulation and the Armaflex
  20. Aircon installed. Had to take day off to supervise the installation. Installation was done by Gain City. Was a one day installation. - Team of two. One old experienced pro, other younger worker. - Very fast and efficient. Dont even take break for lunch. I bought some McDonalds meals for them to keep their energy levels up.. - Even though I upgraded to G22 copper pipe and 1/2inch insulation, they dont use it everywhere. Use a mix of different gauge based on practicality and convenience. - the marking on insulation pipes is a bit misleading. It reads 1/4" outside but inside its 1/2" thick... Couldnt get that. I actually measured the insulation to be sure its 1/2 inch. - The insulation runs right upto the aircon. Inside that got aircon's own insulation. Its a bit flimsy looking and very thin....but I was told thats very effective and anyway got no room inside aircon to run thicker insulation. - The pro installed the living and master bedroom FCUs and compressor. Common bedrooms done by the trainee. - Can easily make out difference between skill of two. Pro always gets his measurements right and cuts exact lengths first time. Assistant gets it right in 2-3tries. They only make one 2 joints in copper pipe. One at compressor end and one inside FCU. - Fat trunking running around the house..but they installed it nicely. - Unfortunately the pipe for Living has to run through the master bathroom. Hopefully it wont be obvious after it gets painted. Water drainage pipe should get hidden below the vanity. - Looked up and down my drying area at other people's installed aircons. Looks like noone running trunking through master bath. Either they dont have aircon in living or use a long way round teh bedrooms to get there. - Did the plastering to cover up holes and sealant was applied nicely on all the trunking edges. Neat finishing. - FCU in living room didnt fit to the wall perfectly. Still see a gap behind.. But thats the best they could do. Say its a problem with the big FCUs.. - The pro didnt tighten all pipes connected to the compressor before he turned on the gas. Got loud hissing sound as gas leaked. Then he quickly tightened all pipes. Hopefully not much gas wasted !! - Tested the aircons, seemed to be working fine. Quiet and powerful. - They packed the aircons with the plastic cover in which they come. Bit of a patchy covering work using a few tapes. Bit afraid some dust will go in during reno. - Gain City claim their workers are paid based on the feedback you give. But in my case wasnt asked to fill out and sign any feedback form..
  21. Bought instant heaters for bathroom. Panasonic and Alpha. For the master bedroom set, I will be replacing the shower and the holding rod with a separate chrome one. Looked better...although the setup has become a bit more complicated.
  22. Only real solution is to do L Box/false ceiling. But if you cant do that like me...due to a "slanting ceiling".....I just used the plainest/flattest trunking they had to offer. A bit wide but less deep trunking is better than slimmer+deeper one. What makes a trunking more obvious is the shadow it creates. If it is not so thick and the light falling on it is even from both sides, the trunking shouldnt be obvious to the eye. So the placement of lights is also important. I have got these two big and flat ceiling lights for my living room. 1- they provide more even light for the room 2 - They cover a lot of trunking behind them Well thats the theory I am working on. You can check if the end product is anything like what I want, in my blog. Will post the final pics after 2 more weeks.
  23. I have also ordered all my lights from them. Delivery in 2 weeks. Good service by Kelvin.
  24. I am looking for an electrician to install my KDK fans. My own electrician can do it, but I am looking for someone who is an expert in balancing/placement of ceiling fans. Seen too many cases where electrician doesnt install properly and the fan wobbles/makes noise etc. Called KDK, but they dont have any technician of their own. They directed me to some sub contractor...Singapore Handyman Singapore Handyman charges quite high, 60$ per fan and even they dont claim any special experience with installing KDK fans. So anyone who has used an electrician to install their KDK fans and the installation was very smooth.... can make recommendation?
  25. My electrician not too keen on hiding the wiring inside ceiling. So I might just have to live with that It will probably be less obvious after plastering and painting is finished. Photos I will post after the dust settles in the house. Currently bathroom tiles being laid and whole flat full of cement dust.
