Nope cos wanto save cost and also since flat is quite new contractor say overlay no problem. Contractor is quite nice, try to help me save cost here and there and also gave some ideas on how to make things look nicer.

Went down to my new flat with contractor yday. Both seller & I want to move fast but HDB is slow but still have time, should b just nice to move in before 20 Aug. Ya what is the 100day thing all about?

Wah sounds really horrible... i was still thinking about buying some chairs & shelves from them, now really have to think twice. Does anyone else have any bad experience with v-hive before?

The reason why HDB exists in the first place have long gone. They are supposed to provide cheap housing for Sporeans. Now we are paying so much. Wonder where the money goes to?

Ya living room is nice. But need to do toilets cos wanto change tiles, do vanity top, etc.

Ok lah its good to start early. Get more quotes so that u can compare. Mine is a point block, so 4 corner units on 1 level. Blk 18 & 19 are point blocks, while 16 & 17 got corridor. So yours is the bigger 86sqm corner unit or the smaller 75sqm corridor unit? I am thinking of only overlaying the bathrooms & kitchen cos want to save cost & minimize dust. But not sure if its possible cos contractor says need to c the place b4 advising. Dunno abt the flooring, tink once i cfm the contractor we will go down to choose tiles. Hah mine is only $50 cheaper than urs la, but i tink can get cheaper one leh. So that's why still asking ard.

Just an update, I'll be going down to seller's place on Thu with my contractor so that we can survey the ground and decide if overlay is possible or needs hacking. One concern about overlay in the bathroom is that it'll make an already small place look smaller. Will take pics of the current state of the house then. My contractor quoted $1050 for painting of the whole house. I thought can get around $800 since it's a vacant house. Any lobangs anyone?

My impression of the side-by-side door fridge is that it takes up more space than normal, is that true? Anyway, where is "heavy norman"? Haha..

Wow 50yrs is a long time, how come still haven't enbloc? I thought typically 30yrs + will be the max. Can't wait to see the transfomation in your flat. Think it will sure stand out among other units in the area How abt other furnitures?

Wa looks like you are not having a good time with the neighbours...but I will suggest that you try your best to still be on cordial terms with them. You don't know what pattern then will try next time. Some people may be pissed by you not smiling at them also. Although ultimately you stay in your flat, you are also buying the surroundings. Just like marriage is not just the couple's problem, but will still involve the families. Hope u can resolve things with them soon. And more pics!

Eh...i think MJ table can't put 6 chairs right? Haha... Ya we don't really know abt this, but since it's an elder's wishes we'll just conform. Min actually says dun bother about it originally but i dun want her mum to feel that we dun respect her feelings. Anyway, 6 is fine since we got space.

Here's the living cum dining room taken from the opposite side: The built in tv console stays, as per the feature wall. All lights are staying too. The reason why we like is probably because of the living room, since it is nicely done up and we like it immediately when we stepped in. Still thinking about the shoe rack and my display cabinets (i have some collections that i want to display). And also whether to deco the walls with some pics.

Buy as a bundle, 6 chairs + dining table. Did not choose the chairs displayed here but another set which is more matching to the table. Originally bought 4 but min's mum says buying only 4 means we are not welcoming parents from both side to come join us in the house (some inauspicious meaning la) so we went back to add another 2.

Here's my living cum dining room, taken from the perspective of the TV console: Won't be doing reno here cos condition is good. Just a fresh coat of paint. And the owner has a built in shelf which I can display my stuff. I will basically do the same as the owner now, just replace with my own sofa & dining table. Thinking of doing a string curtain just behind the sofa so as to add a "divider" to demarcate dining & living rooms, and to make it more cosy.

The dining table that I bought from Lorenzo: Bought 6 chairs as well, but they are not shown in the pic. Hope it looks good in my new home.

Sure once I talk to him and is comfortable, I will share with you. His quotes are quite competitive. Asking him to go down to my new flat on Wed to talk abt renovating stuff. So u started scouting ard already too?

Yup checked out their names liao but can't find. I will talk to the one whom i want to engage soon. See how he normally does things. Since he has done many flats and is highly recommended by friends because of the workmanship and cost, I will prob go with him.

So far I have been to many shops selling leather sofas, and the one that I have most favourable comments will be Lorenzo. The sales staff are not pushy and they are willing to help you find the one that suits you the most. I don't like shops like Furniture Club because they mark up their prices so high so as to allow you to bargain down. As far as I know, Lorenzo's prices are quite fixed, promos will be known upfront.

I paid aout $2.5k for the sofa and that includes a full leather ottoman which is about two-third the length of the sofa. So as long as the works that I do are permitted, its doesn't matter if I use HDB registered contractors or not right? Cos I got a contractor who was recommended by my friend and the quotes are very reasonable but is not registered with HDB.

Would love to see how your toilets look like when they are done cos I am intending to do mine soon.

Been sourcing around for contractors and got a few referred ones from friends who have positive renos done by them. However, I checked HDB website and realised that some are not registered with HDB. Is there any implications if I use their services?
