  1. Seems like it's quite hard to get decent contacts to do hacking and tiling as so far, no one had posted any. I'm also exploring going through the same route as you to project manage this myself. I've engaged a laminate flooring contractor but work have not started yet. If you are keen to explore, just PM me and I'll share the contact with you. I'm looking for HDB Licenced Contractor to do hacking walls, tiling and wet works such as building concrete slab for the kitchen sink, hob, concrete base for the carpentry, washing machine, fridge and concrete kerbs for the shower areas. Let me know if you have found any contractor willing to take up such projects.
  2. Seems like the double bowls rectangular sinks from kraus comes only as undermount. Is it advisable to do that as top mount?
  3. Hi Peter, May I know what is the brand for this clock and where did you get it from? Thanks.
  4. I'm also looking for system 3 air con for an existing flat. More than 10 years old and I think the piping need to be replaced with the insulation and wiring also. Leaning more towards either Daikin or Mitsubishi Inverter.
  5. After having some conversations with the folks here, I decided to take on Quick-Step as the interaction with the salesperson was up to my expectations. Price was one of the factor as I was considering either the Kronotex's Mammut or Amazone series because of the groove lines. The experience of selecting laminate flooring was an interesting one. There were so many to choose and each have it's own strengths. My criteria was: Provides industry standard's warranty that is serviced by the manufacturer's direct. Honest and straightforward salesperson (As a first impression but now, refer to later posts made.) Provides matching skirting Have groove lines. Going to a show was probably not the best way but it's the convenient way to check out multiple brands at 1 shot. I have met some good and bad sales people. Ultimately, when I contacted Quick-Step, the experience is so far so good. Hope that it'll stay this way throughout.
  6. That's what I will be doing for my place. IMO it's a good way to differentiate 2 different type of living spaces. If it permits, go for a 3rd colour for your study area. Remember to check and make sure your laminate contractor use matching skirting for your laminate floor. If not it'll look a little weird.
  7. Hi Brian, Just wondering, end up, did you do the rainshower? Can't see to see it anywhere. Was your City Gas header able to support your rainshower?
  8. It's one of the brand I have shortlisted to try as well. 24 March, there is another furniture expo at Singapore Expo, will gather more information before confirming.
  9. Tried to visit Quickstep website. Seems like it's either down or hacked. headache man, so many brands and so many different issues.
  10. Think it was mentioned elsewhere that for vinyl floor, although it is waterproof and durable, it has outgassing properties that makes it harmful for health. You can read more about it here: http://www.building-your-green-home.com/vinyl-flooring.html
  11. MDF is not a new material and has been around for ages. i believe 1 way or another, we grew up with MDF for a huge part of our lives. I think the key thing here is having a raw unfinished MDF and they are not sure about the health risks too. IMO, so long as the MDF is finished with paint or laminates, it should be ok to seal away the toxic resins.
  12. Actually the main challenge here for majority is that: Renovation is not a daily activity, a regular person probably do it less than 10 times in their lives. There is a lack of experience in doing something like this. it's a lot of money to be spent and will affect the living standards for the person living in the home. there's really an extensive amount of things to learn about. the challenge of putting an illustration of what you are visualizing as your ideal home. Some things that will help along the way is to really religiously take note of the images that speaks the idea you have in mind. This will help to narrow down what you are looking for. it'll be a huge challenge to do something like this at the very last minute with the amount of books and websites to go through.
  13. Try Mustafa. Nowadays, the Philips Air Fryer is the more "in" thing actually.
  14. Anyone changed their main door and gate before? Can advise? I just realised that there's a chance that the frame has to be changed too. Is there any reliable contractor to enquire about this?
  15. Hi Lauer, No concept or photo at the moment but just want to shift the orientation of the main door + main gate. like if it's open from the left, I'd like to shift it to open from the right instead. or the other way round.
  16. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone changed the orientation of their main door and gate? I'm thinking of swapping the way the door open to the opposite direction of the existing plan as it is hindering some concepts I have. Meaning to say, instead of swinging open to the left, i'd like the door to swing open to the right. Please advise. Thanks!
  17. you can custom build a slim shoe cabinet with a special compartment to provide access to the handle if your bomb shelter door is near your main door. But that'll cost a little. the shoe cabinet should be something like this type of design: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/good-questions/good-questions-deodorizing-shoe-cabinets-028738 If it's located inside of your house, you can try to make it into a "display" cabinet. Those are the common solutions I had came across to beautify the bomb shelter door.
  18. Hi all, Apologies if this topic had been discussed to dead but I can't seem to access the following link to the topic. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...amp;mode=linear nothing was shown in the post. Anyway I am considering to do timber flooring for my brand new HDB home. I have read somewhere here that some recommends engaging external contractor to do the cement screeding, some says HDB will be able to do a good job. What is your say on this matter? let's say if HDB did a not so fantastic job of cement screeding and the floor is still uneven, can I reject it and get it redone? or can i engage an external contractor to touch up? if engage external contractor to do it, how much will it cost? Thanks
  19. Hi all, is star bamboo the only supplier for bamboo flooring in Singapore? I read about bamboo flooring and stumbled upon them. Although the thought of going "green" is good but I do not understand how this could make something that is somewhat more renewable than timber to cost more as it does not make any economical sense. I might just end up going for normal parquet flooring instead since going "green" cost more.
