  1. I got myself RB 38VSV & RH 382, 3 burner Schott tempered class burner with hood from Rinnai at Goh Ah Bee at $640 nett price with free delivery but not installation as my contractor installed it for me. You can check the specs at www.rinnai.com.sg. So far I am satisfied with the performance as me and my wife cooks. On average maybe we cook like 4 days in a week. The one I bought comes with the safety valve feature. Customer service for Rinnai is good as well. The support staffs are quite knowledgable in their products.
  2. Hi all, On my way to work today, I chance upon this ad on a van, www.goldenleaf.com.sg. Went into their site and it seems like their site is quite comprehensive with updated pics of their works at their client's houses. Plus can do DIY quote estimation as well. Cool......

    Lpg Gas

I enquire and compared among 3 brands, Shell, Mobil and Union. Seems like Union is the cheapest aft comparing the deposit, price per tank and also the installation charges and freebies they give such as the regulator and also the cylinder mat. But I am not sure if those flyers which usually originates from smaller shops will be more aggresive by offering more price breaks to entice customers to sign up with them. I am quite wary as well when installing cylinder gas but I was left with no choice since I am staying in an old flat and it doesnt have the PUB gas supply.
  4. Kewin, I emphatized with you for the nightmare you wernt through. I can imagine the money, stress and doing it all alone. My hats off to you for pulling through. Hope from now on, its nothing but bright sunny days ahead for you. 1) Is it wrong to casual talk with the contractor's worker? (they will kapo and ask me how much I buy the house.) I think its ok, but I never met with my contractor workers before, because I hardly go to the site to supervise during the reno. 2) Does your contractor workers leave down telephone number on the wall. If yes, how will you response? Never happened to me. If it does, I probably just take it dowm for future references or needs. 3) Does your contractor workers ever ask from you money during the casual talk? Never met them before, so this doesnt apply although I did met with some before when they come do touch up aft completion. But that also never ask $ from me. 4) Does your contractor asked from you the last payment immediately after handing over the house to you? Never, in fact only aft >2wks staying there only come and take $. That also he never chased me...hahaha. 5) Does your contractor ask you to install toilet bowl first? I saw a lot of member install last? For my one, its installed almost last, I would say its installed aft the painting and tiles are done. 6) Does your contractor tell you, he cannot get workers on site because of other works? My contractor have workers that had been through with him for long time. I specifically asked him about his workers. Thats what he told me. So he says he knows what the quality of his workers provide. 7) How long does your house take to paint? (My house 2 weeks, blamed me on my selection paint instead of his manpower) I think mine like 2-3 days only. I am also not sure as I mentioned I rarely go down on site to supervise. 8) Does your contractor keep dragging and telling you his workers cannot make it and suddenly paused your renovation for 2-3 days. (Properly he run out of cash and never paid his workers and gives all sort of excuses to cover himself) Never. In fact mine was finished in lightning speed without comprimising the quality. 9) Have your Contractor tell you his worker run away to Malaysia and never return his deposit and delayed the Carpentary Works? How would you response? No ah. Never encounter before. If he told me that, I will tell him ok, so thata prob you need to solve. Dont let it effect the handover date. 10) Have your Contractor ever tell you, nevermind it is alright to get work permit licence (HDB Licence) issue from his friends? My contractor does have HDB licence. I personally check in HDB website as I dont trust anyone's words for it. An ID did told me before to be wary of this tactic. Contractors using other people's licence. So in a way, I had prepared myself not to reach at this juncture. 11) Have your Contractor ever tell you his workers is not available for certain installation so have to delayed? But why can't he start other works instead? No, never happened before.
  5. I actually read somewhere if the floor area is small like my living room, I need to use shorter 3 blades, so the air can be concentrated at one location. But if I have a bigger area to cover, then longer blades are needed to push the air around the floor area
  6. Yes, I believe its a myth to say that plasma consumes more energy. It depends on situation of the scenes (dark or bright), size of tv and also the technology on it operates. If you watch the same film on a plasma TV, during bright scenes it will use more energy than LCD TV (because need draw more energy to light up each pixels). But during the dark scenes it will use less energy than LCD TV ( because a matrix of thin-film transistors (TFTs) supplies voltage to liquid-crystal-filled cells sandwiched between two sheets of glass that draws energy at a constant rate). The result should roughly be the same. As for my home, I am using a 40inch LCD.
  7. My current home is freaking warm too given the fact that the back and front are blocked by adjacent flats. I had a 3 blade ceiling fan mounted but it only helps if you're sitting directly underneath it. And I am quite hesistant to put an aircon in my living room as I heard from my contractor the load maybe my unit cannot take it and also I was thinking turning on the air con in my living room will put a hole in my pocket each mth when paying the bills. So most of the time now, I just leave my kitchen windows open and also the door open when I am at home. Boh pien.....sigh....
  8. Hi Ling Er, I can share with you my flow Hacking - > Painting& Plastering -> Air Con -> Carpentry Usually carpentry is last as once everything is done, they just fix and install. Dont worry, once you engage a contractor, he will go through with you the sequence.
  9. Actually I used to stay at CCK North 5 and it really smells like chicken poo to me everyday especially in late evening. Although I am not staying there now, I occasionally go to CCK Sports Hall. Along the way, I can still smell chicken poo. It really baffles me, how come this is still happening and how I did actually put up with the smell for 2 yrs there hahahaha.... I think just need to get used to it.
  10. Hi simpleguy80, good question, I am not sure of how many yrs warranty I am getting because I still have a stack of warranty cards for most of my electrical appliances still there in my file...hahaha. But I guess I am not getting any addtional warranty from Toshiba. If its 1 yr, guess I am enjoying only 1 yr.
  11. Wow just 1 day never see forum, like great tsunami come and blow this Ah Soon posting....hahaha.I agree with marvin although me and him r not related in any way. In fact I think I can agree to disagree as well with alot of Ah Soon supporters too. Some of their comments are constructive and postive. For that, my hats off. I think this is really a good platform for info exchange as I pointed out before. But to familyof4, I dont agree with your reply. I think you better get your emotions in check, anything you disagree with me, lets debate offline from this forum. I hold my piece and I stand by what I said whether is my choice of words or my opinions. Trust us when i said, me and I believe marvin had think hard before posting what we wanted to say knowing the onslaught we will received. But we stand by what we say because I believe forumers should be mature enough to take criticisms, deflect criticisms, make logical sound rebuttals. With this believe, I will continue to contribute in whatever possible. To those who feel some anger, or emotional tinkling sensations running through your veins, take a breather and rethink again before posting. Cooler heads prevail.
  12. I think I missed out Ivy in my reply above. Ivy which commented that I shouldnt flame anyone down. Okay this is coming from someone who has a line that says lets join Ah Soon club in Facebook. I agree. Flaming down someone is a big No No. So with the title Ah Soon in this forum, means I cant have a dissenting view? Since when this forum became "there is no way other than the highway"? As flaming down someone is not good, the opposite is true as well. If you dont agree with the usage of the word idolize, we can agree to disagree. But just like familyof4, again I say the same thing to you. Dont misconstrue the intention and meaning of my msg saying things like I should flame someone down? Dont bend and twist and try to read my statement as if its a quadrant from Nostradamus's prophecy hahahaha. All I amsaying is Ah Soon is not the only good contractor in SGP when it comes to quality and pricing. So in fact I am already saying he is good. Understand? Hahahaha....
  13. Seems like a good deal. Last yr, I had a deal although it didnt went through for some other reasons, I also agreed to let seller stayed there for extra 1mth longer. COV reduced from 13k to 11k because I thought its ok since the going rate of the rent also is about there. But you got a 50% reduction in COV which is so much better. Its mostly a mutual consensus thing. If you feel like it, and they also feel that way too, then I guess its a GO
  14. To familyof4, jaskel, smallboy, I will use familyof4 msg to answer all of you May I ask if you have personally read Ah Soon's customers' t blog? Or do you have any personal encounter with him? ncy: My observation is based on what I read on T Blogs and not thru personal encounter I have a few things in mind that really made me wonder why u said: 1. you think Ah Soon is overrated when: we, Uncle's customers do pin point the faults out when it happens. We do not hide and shun from such thigs, it's all real encounters, written all over in the blogs. ncy: I think he is overrated, simply for the fact his names is mentioned everywhere here. Overrated might not be a bad thing. Unless you choose to see the word negatively. IPod is an overrated product. But who cares, right? Apple is laughing their way into the bank. 2. he is just a contractor, we did not sell him, people ask for his contacts willingly and we do tell them the problems we face as well. True, like what Ivy said, we also ask people to go to Mr Yeak as uncle is unable to handle the overwhelming projects. What do you think when people still call him for quotes or even sign with him after we have shared all the hiccups in RT? ncy: I fully agree with your statement above 3. idolising. I also burst out laughing. Would you spend tens of thousands just to let uncle renovate your house just because of idolising? Maybe you will, but I won't because neither of my hubby or myself earn so much to just play with the money. ncy: I didnt say someone idolized uncle soon that leads to him landing on the job. I hope you dont misconstrue what I said. I also burst out laughing seeing how each sentence of yours getting more and more personal like I touched a raw nerve in you 4. How many contractors/ID out there are willing to acknowledge the mistakes the sub-con made and willing to pull down and re-do for you without really even trying to cover up? ncy: I am not from the Dept Of Statistics...hahaha joking. Errr....frankly I heard of contractors coming clean on this. So whats the point here in this question? 5. I do agree that since yourcontractor is good, do share the pictures of your reno. No harm introducing anny good and reliable contractor to the forum rather than trying to flame someone down right? ncy: Again, I dont have the zanniest idea where you get this perception that I am putting someone down. I am saying it again that Ah Soon is not the only good contractor in SGP. So if you read the statement again, I am actually saying Ah Soon is good. Understand?Only that he is not the only one in SGP 6. Judging Uncle base on the statement is really not fair for him because no one rates him here. We share experiences and how uncle does his "service recovery", I really take that as him having pride in his work and also ever so sincere. This is his virtue. ncy: I have to agree with you on the above. Because if not he wont have so much backlog orders with him. And to Jaskel, I didnt use the words teenages and celebratries, the choice fo words came from you. I only said idolized. So if you have that perception that I meant that, then sorry to dissappoint you I didnt mean that
  15. As I pointed out in my previous comments, some of the clients do gave me an impression of Ah Soon is really a "superstar" hahahaha...I believe thats what some are calling him. However in all honesty, I do believe Ah Soon price is competitive and his workmanship is good if not he wont have so many backlog orders, but I just want to reiterate again that he is not the only contractor in SGP that can offer a good price. So lets keep our channels open here and exchange as much info as possible with other readers, so we can share the good and discard the bad. Ultimately, we are the customer and we pay our hard earned money to them, we only expect they deliver the best which includes good workmanship, good program coordination (means I do not need to worry if this is done, or I can catch hold of him or not)and also reasonable pricing. But for me personally, Ah Soon style might not suit me for 2 reasons. If he is slightly cheaper or on par with another contractor, I would have simply not chosen Ah Soon for 2 reasons. First of all, he dont provide his quote in English. To someone who doesnt read Chinese, its a problem..hahahaha. Yes one might say can translate, but its a hassle. Second, I heard he is so busy, he dedicate it to his helpers, or sometimes Ah Soon is so busy, its hard to get hold of him. I have short tolerance for people that cant keep their promises on appointments. The same goes for my wife. Although cant blame Ah Soon on this, but its really a worry for some who wants to get it done chop chop. As for the cost of my reno, I believe I had PM to some. I will continue to PM to those who wants to have a look at what I had done which incl the quote, pics and also price. I can state here my damage is $25k. Nothing fanciful done, just a normal basic run on the mill renovation. Btw, I am out of the country at the moment. Will be back in action on Tues. So will PM those who had send me their requests. I will gladly share. Utlimately you guys/ladies will be the one deciding whats best. So good luck, enjoy the period of the pre and post renoation period. Its worthwhile the effort as its a place where we all call HOME
  16. To be frank, I never step into Window Cool shop before. However I visited 2 of this shops before, Kool Connected in Ubi and Window Image in Causeway Point. So I sort of know what I am looking for. So when I called Window Cool guy to come down my home for measurement, he brought the catalogue with him on the various materials they have. Some is like $5 psf and some is about $7.20 psf depending on the fabric and maker. As for the mechanism, I just installed it about 2wks back as I just renovated my home as well. So far so good, the pull mechanism is very smooth thus far. No jam whatsoever. Maybe its still too early to tell whether it can stand through the test of time.
  17. I saw Daiso got sell $2 window lock at their Plaza Singapura branch and its up there in the charts as their best selling items...hahahaha
  18. Sure Metalsubzero. I got it from Atlantic Engineering. Customer service very good. The lady very polite. Aft they fixed it, they even sent the remote controls to my office, hand delivered. I am satisfied with their service....so far...fingers crossed...hahahaha.
  19. I had been renting moving from place to place until recently settled down finally in a home I bought. I had always used this mover, guy called Richard. No fancy mambo jumbo, he is a 2 man show. I had used him at least 3 times already for my move. On 01-May got him to move for me about 50 boxes of stuffs, excl loose items like lamps, microwave oven, book shelf, CD shelf, plus some bags and also 1 Queen size mattress. It only costs me $100. And above all, he is gentle when it comes to handling your stuffs and punctual in hsi timing.
  20. Personally does anyone here think that this Ah Soon guy is overrated? I mean you get 1 person talking and it starts to spread like wildfire. I am not saying he is not good or his price is unattractive, but what I am trying to say is that he is not the only contractor in whole SGP. I see some ppl posts are like idolizing him like........ I recently got my home done. I cant say I found the cheapest but what I can say is that aft doing my whole home, 4 room flat (86sqm) changing the floor tiles, hacking incl hacking the storeroom and rebuild a new one, painting/plastering, rewiring, building kitchen cabinets, master bdr cabinet and many other more, my bill come to about $25k . And its not Ah Soon. So folks out there, do keep your eyes open for other contractors too. Like mine, he has been in the biz for 10yrs now, no showroom, no fancy 3D drawing or anything, just him, his service, good price and also above all good aft sales service.
  21. Last mth bought a Sys 3 non inverter, Toshiba model #RAS-3M20S2AX / RAS-M10SKPX for the indoor unit and outdoor unit. Nett price is $1870 which includes installation, metal bracket, trunking, armaflex insulation and free one time service before 1yr. Personally aft looking at NEA website on no of ticks, this 3 ticks non inverter cost savings is not too far off from a 4 ticks inverter, but to get a good inverter aircon, you need to pay alot outstripping any cost savings u intend to have.
  22. Bought 2 water heaters last mth and I had been using it since 01-May. Installed the cheaper model, Mistral, model # MSH 3 @$99 for my common bathroom and 707, model Compact @ $185. Prices r nett price. So far so good for both.
  23. I got my new hob and hood last mth aft contemplating on so many brands and my budget. Finally settled for tempered glass 3 burner, slim design hood Rinnai, model #RB 38VSV & RH 382. Nett price = $640, free delivery
