  1. Went to MGL at Eminent Plaza today. Quote more or less like this: MBR: Day curtain: 136, night curtain: 264 Living: day: 242 night: 372 common room 189 Total is 1203, giving me 1100. Haiz, I thought can get below 1000. But I guess this is pretty much standard. But can someone PM me Mr Chew's number so I can get a 2nd quotation? Thanks!
  2. Yeah lor. I check on the old man every 45 minutes lor
  3. I sit inside, but then, I got nobody to call for food and drinks ler. I have to go back and heat up meals for myself and the old man lor. Cos I dun carry pax. So, I sit inside and also part time slog outside type haha
  4. Nah, I don't think I'll fit into a kebaya. Besides, I'm a dude. Haha. Colleagues though.
  5. Looks I am not the only one who finds the Crestar regulator butt ugly. The rest of the switches in my place are LeGrand silver, so to have a white regulator next to my nice nice switches will be odd. The shop I bought the fans from suggested spraying the regulator with the colour of the switches. One other alternative to buying new regulators.
  6. Lights Arcade I think its 515 Balestier Rd, but yeah just opposite Shaw Plaza/Centre. Compared to lighting.com.sg, it is more expensive. I would have gotten from lighting.com.sg, but they don't do delivery, and I was going to be overseas so couldn't do cash and carry. For Choo Chiang, you can google them and find one of their many branches.
  7. Hi there, got a question regarding your MBR fan. My living room going to be something like that: cove lights surrounding the fan in the middle. With your fan in the middle, do you get the effect of the light getting chopped by the fan? Sort of like the stroboscope that we learnt in sec school hehe. My ID said I should get 38in fan, but it is puny! Thought of trying out 42in instead. Thanks!
  8. Bought my king size Simmons mattress Beauty Rest from a fair over at Expo last month. Just to let you guys know, there are two people selling Simmons: Ackerman and Smith, which is the authorized distributor, then there is Mattress Giant which is sort of the Parallel Importer of Simmons from the USA. THe PI version is bigger than the Ackerman and Smith version. But of course, I think PI, like cars, can be cheaper. The PI name is Mattress Giant located at Shaw Plaza over at Balestier.
  9. I'm getting mine from Lights Arcade and Chan Huat. Chan Huat has quite a big range of lights for, say, living room and dining room. If you want simple ones, Lights Arcade are not bad. Remember to get a free doorbell thrown in! And if you want to get those energy-saving light bulbs, just get from Choo Chiang. Their General Electric bulbs are only SGD2.20 each w/o GST. Shops outside normally sell about 5 - 6 dollars each.
  10. Hey, actually for T5 and PLC lights, for end-users like us, as long as they don't fall from the ceiling and they don't short circuit, I think we can live with it. Don't need so super high end quality for those type of lights. I actually went to Choo Chiang @ AMK today (Sunday) morning before they closed at 12PM. They also sell downlights! But their brand is AKIRA (never knew they did these things). Just the balast alone is SGD17, excluding transformer and lights. So, I think I'll just go ahead with Lights Arcade, selling theirs for SGD22. Oh, and Choo Chiang sells GE Energy Saving bulbs 13W for SGD2.20 only! Shops at Balestier sell for around SGD6 per piece! So, I grabbed 5 from Choo Chiang and they gave one free. Think I will get the T5 lights from them too. Oh, and I bought my LeGrand switches from them too. My ID was going to supply MK switches and when I asked for a change to LeGrand, she said that the electrician quoted a price which wasn't reasonable. So decided to get my own switches. Choo Chiang is my discovery of the year! Apart from Everjoint...
  11. Hehe, don't know ler. Like I said, maybe I am a bit over-sensitive. But so far, she is still ok lah. Still need to maintain a good relationship. So far, she has been very accomodating to my requests and changes.
  12. I'm guessing the idea is to put a glass panel or something on top. So those vertical partitions are to support the weight. Eh, but then, do you have space under the table for your legs? From what I see, doesn't seem got enough space... then have to sit with legs open big big or sideways
  13. Haha, TS = threadstarter lor. But ST sounds good also Ok, will look out for your updates!
  14. Hi TS, so how did things go with Wellmex? Still having problems ah? Should I avoid them, cos I am planning to get a front grill for my place too.
  15. So, as I was telling myself on this blog, the time has come to get lights for my place. The usual stuff like PLC lights and T5 lights, cannot escape. Prices all about the same, but I found the cheapest at Lights Arcade over at Balestier Road. 5.5 inches 2x13W is going for SGD22. Other shops have different prices but I guess cannot really compare because of different designs or finishing or quality. However, will go over to Choo Chiang tomorrow to see how much they are selling those for. Might be cheaper there actually. Only lights I really need to look for are the lights in the WIW, one hanging light at the counter in the kitchen, one light in the common bedroom, and one light at the dining table. Found a really nice one over at Chan Huat. It is like 6 ice cubes hanging from the ceiling, costs SGD435 after bargaining a bit. Originally SGD480 before GST. Then, for WIW, planning to get three rounds attached together for SGD140 (I think). Common bedroom light gonna be a normal big square light. For the kitchen counter, gonna go for a nice simple red and white hanging light for SGD65 or so. And, I don't know if it's me, but, I think my ID is sulking a bit because I got my toilet stuff on my own, and I am getting my lights on my own. I read on the forum that if I were to go to the lights shops with an ID or contractor, I will get chopped big time. But my ID said on the contrary, if go with ID should be able to bargain more. So don't know which is true. Then again, I may just be over-sensitive. 27 July - Painting and general cleaning starting 31 July - Delivery of toilet stuff and lightings 3 Aug - Start of polishing of parquet in bedrooms 5 Aug - Delivery of washing machine and fridge 8 Aug - Delivery of Simmons mattress 11 Aug - Installation of wardrobe by Alumix And, somewhere in between there, installation of airconditioners, kitchen cabinets and TV console.
  16. Just bought Hitachi R-Z581AMS fridge from Gain City. THey listed price as SGD919, but after seeing it being sold at Everjoint for SGD799, managed to bargain it down to SGD808. And they threw in a free cordless steam iron.
  17. ARGH! I paid SGD429 for the Franke sink and Fremont mixer. How come some people on this forum are saying they paid SGD379?!?!?! WHYYYYYY??
  18. Aiyoh, really ALAMAK! How come Royal Fanco quote me 429 wan??? Sorry ah, when did you buy yours? I just ordered mine last Sunday leh. And I saw the promotion pamphlet says 429 leh...
  19. Wow, you managed to get a good deal then. Was trying to find something like that when I got my place in March. You got yours at the right time. Things seem to be picking up now. All the best with your renovation! Keep us updated
  20. Wow, it finally TOPed. I remember looking at the showroom back in early 2007. Wanted to get a 2 bedroom unit there but the design was weird... the aircond ledge was super long. Anyway, looks like you don't really need to do much reno. Everything seems functional already! Very nice!
  21. Hey where did u get your Franke sink and fremont tap package for 379? I just got mine for 429!
  22. Okay, so here are the things that we got at RF. Magnum brand basin + WC for SGD288 package price. Heard that all the brands like Magnum, Geo Ceram, Crizto are pretty much the same, so no reason to go for a really expensive brand. Mixer+Hand Shower+Rain Shower for SGD420, by an Italian brand. Expensive! But, for the Master Bathroom, so why not? Need to pamper myself with a rain shower once in a while... Franke kitchen sink + Fremont mixer for SGD428. Package price by Franke. Turbo hood and hob for SGD730. No choice but to go for this particular model of the hood because our kitchen is really tiny and it can only accomodate a 600mm wide hood. Other things like towel rack, toilet paper holder, etc etc. Delivery will be this Saturday. Then things can be installed next week. Okay, next on the shopping agenda will be lightings! Have been to Chan Huat at Balestier Road so far. Can anyone recommend any other shops that have reasonable pricing and a decent range? Has to be done by this weekend. Help!
