My kitchen and toilet's ceiling is cracking and have a lot of pot holes, is there anyway to DIY repair or should i ask the contractors? Anyone here mix the cement or mud before for repairing such areas?

I went Choo Chiang Marketing outlet before They want me to buy 300 meters of ethernet cable and bundles of normal wire and 300m phone cable.. they don't sell the crimping tools too.. I don't need that much and certainly don't have such a large budget.
