personally im not a big fan of ebay and the problems u encountered is 1 of the main reasons why. if your new as i was to ebay and has zero rating, you will have better luck getting the bots from US online retailers. theres lots of websites offering irobot and if lucky, you might chance upon some promos that can rival ebay prices.
-
im concur with kohsw vs pro-ebay tingshen importing bascially means having an uncertain life for the bot. uncertain if it will reach here in 1 piece, uncertain if problems wont arise, uncertain how to diagnose problems, uncertain how to get replacement parts and at what cost, uncertain how to repair with acquired parts. some uncertainty can be alleviated from detailed study but it will not be the 100% assureness of having local warranty and support. i do agree with tingshen in that ackerman has priced the bots too high. their price for the scooba can buy 3 scoobas at the price i imported for. my conclusion is i rather import and face the risk of a lemon bot. worst come to worst i will import another and if 2 times still suay, i will take it fate decree irobot is not for me

Ariston Storage Heater Vs Joven Storage Heater
hansolo76 replied to donut88's topic in Electronics & Electricals
never used ariston b4 but i concur with the joven. the horizontal tank does not have thermostat and its programmed to heat to abt 65 deg if my memory serves me right. heating is at most 5 minutes for a decent warm bath and the insulation is good enough to keep it warm from early morn till when i knock off -
i mounted my lcd myself and the best advice would be to get a friend to help. an extra pair of hands can hold the bracket in the desired spot while you drill pilot holes into the feature wall. last but not least u will need help to carry the lcd if its bigger than 32"

the roomba capacitor mod can be found all over SLT. its more commonly found vs the scooba capacitor. i think cost is $2.5 thereabouts its good but surprising news if the PSU is direct from irobot coz all along i had thought the local agent ackerman is the one to mod the PSU but of course with permission and instructions from irobot
-
the shop that helped me solder is further inside on 3rd floor. cant remem the unit though.. juz do like i did, walk around and keep a sharp eye out for soldering iron which is plugged in. also i paid 10 bucks per PSU mod which exludes the capacitor. overall still cheaper than a transformer and confirm use less electricity

Karcher Steam Cleaner, Say Bye-bye To Detergent?!
hansolo76 replied to tingshen's topic in Electronics & Electricals
my take is its good if u wana do spot cleaning on hardy stains. detergents does a better job over a big area -
item no longer avail.

juz a comment abt the warranty being from irobot direct. i believe irobot do not entertain any oversea customers unless its gotten from the local authorised dealer. that is why they dont sell direct to international and official manuel states warranty void if shipped out of US, PSU modified etc there was an entity called gkrobot that used to be parallel importing, selling and providing warranty as a middle man but was stopped once local dealer found out.
-
i thought of doing tat but doing so means i be paying more for taxes so juz accept lor. the roomba 530 is not too bad a model to begin with anyway. docking statin and all is included. setting schedules is a luxury anyway.
-
i found 2 explaination of CIF. the customs website sibei cheem Vpost has the much easier understood one

update on my roomba sale. apparently borderlinx concierge got my order wrong and got for me a roomba 530 instead. By the time i found out item has already reached DHL warehouse and is currently under processing in prep to fly over. the 530 was gotten for USD299 and the shipping was abt USD30 but i will take some losses and let go for $400. am including also the 47uF 400V capacitor required to do the charger mod for local use. the item should reach my door by thurs/fri. my contact is 91821618 if anyone is interested.
-
my bad.. tot u were someone from hardwarezone forum.
-
theres 1 additional cost to factor in which is the CIF. tingshen will know alot abt this coz he kena this cost using comgateway recently
-
im waiting for the freight company to revert with final quote for shipping + tax but im expecting it to be no more than 600
-
juz wondering if anybody is keen on a roomba 560? i bought 1 from US but the wife is not approving of the $ spent so im thinking of selling it
-
buying from irobot direct is the 2nd most expensive way to get with john ackerman as the most ex. source ard the US online retailers and you will find better deals. got to have patience though also Vpost is the worst agent if you want to ship in heavy stuff. whats commonly used is comgateway.. i gather you bought another roomba from ebay? let me know if you're willing to let go of the 550 at a more "decent" price ya. i had budgeted for a 535 but if not too much, i can upgrade my budget.
-
well the way i see it, unless the item is much cheaper than online retail stores, the risk involved just dont justify the savings. paypal protects only up to a limit yeah? my main concern is even if the seller is forced by paypal to refund a wrong sale, i will still have to pay freight to ship the item back ya.

cookie, thanks for the pic and SLT lobang. now whats left is to get my hands on a roomba trying to find good deals from US retailers and import. too bad i juz dont trust ebay
-
hihi did you mod your scooba power brick at SLT and if so any particular shop to recommend? i've read in forums its recommended by irobot to leave the docking station always plugged in and charging so you scooba should be all rite
-
i suppose theres no scientific proof abt the batt myth but could be i didn dig deep enough have read alot of comments though about stories of either inadequate charge or premature batt death wats for sure is the power will be wasted in terms of heat on the transformer. i should be bringing the power brick to SLT to check if any shop can help once my roomba arrives
-
hihi i juz sent you PM. anyway u got my msn info?

the constant dust battle staying in my new estate has finally pushed me to look for robotic help and irobot seems to be the best reviewed. im not very keen on paying crazy prices from the local distributor so thought to check if anyone has been checking out these as well and maybe can share good lobangs? also perhaps a show of hands who modded their adaptors and who decided the step down transformer is good enough?
