  1. In my opinion, sales tactics lah...My opinion: - 1) Hard panel are harder by the name suggest and is more rigid. The color dont look very vibrant to me. 2) Soft panel are softer but I feel it looks nicer. During the time where I purchase my LCD (6 mths back), samsung, sony, sharp all uses soft panels so i think soft panels are good if not 3 of the best LCD tv makers wont use soft panels. Companies like LG, Philips uses hard panel... I always see salesman banging on the hard panel and say it is very solid etc...I dont think it is useful unless we bang the screen everyday... As for viewing angle, look at the specs...I dont think hard and soft panel has any difference.... If you have time, go over to audio house and ask...you will get some valuable info. As for LED tv, I dont know bcos during the time I recce for TV, the price is like $4-5k..haha!
  2. well, I believe in all these but we won't know certain things for sure unless we die and keep our memory.
  3. Hi I am also installing Blum hinges and aventos systems and my comments: 1) I don't see the complexity. It is just a hinge with added dampers and I am sure lots of carpenter can do 2) I believe many of them install some form of anti slam mechanism before. Blum is just another type 3) I have spoken to my carpenters before and they mention they have encounter some issues before with aventos and Blum send their ppl down to help so I guess it is ok 4) I feel some carpenters have little education or knowledge but they are very good with hands on. They don't understand specs, English etc but they can still do a good job mounting things properly. This one I really respect them
  4. is it true? I believe in the past but now I am skeptical already. Why I say that? My wife is a very kind and considerate person but she always got bully and backstab at work. My ex HOD is nice but got backstab and force to leave company. My nice ex colleagues are good and helpful yet all things are thrown at them. My new HOD is a backstabber Xiao Ren who don't know anything but flying high. I saw managers who backstab ppl promote every 1-2 years. Colleagues who are very selfish and "Lau kan" doing well and getting appreicated for their effort. Pls share your experience.
  5. The kitchen is almost done. Now waiting for the glass backsplash to be ready. Installed hob today and there seems to be some issue with one side as the fire keeps shutting off..Need to ask Hobz technician to have a look already...Jialat..
  6. Congrats! Things are really moving fast! Great work!
  7. Ask your ID. Some ID say no but some say yes. Why I say that. Typically, both glossy and matt laminate are prone to scratches and both are the same in terms of scratch resistance. I did an experiment by scratching on the laminate samples given by my contractor. It is not easy to scratch them. However, if you have a sharp object, it is alway possible. I have design consumer products with gloss surfaces in the past and once they are scratched, scratches are obvious.. Just take the new white glossy macbook as an example. Nice, white and glossy but prone to scratches and fingerprints. Having said that, just go with what you like. I believe there should be a topic on glossy vs matt laminates.
  8. Thanks! Wonder what color will blend well with grey..hmm...
  9. Guys For 2.5m-3m, should we do one piece of two piece? Heard it can't go into lift. In addition, I heard glass will have a green tint. Is that true? My cabinet is grey, any recommendation on the color? Thanks!
  10. Wow! Tiler Seng got HDB license? I thought he do carpentry.
  11. Thank you. My wife and I wanted something matt because glossy laminates tends to be more obvious when they are scratched.
  12. Wasting your bloody time. Unless you mention name of their company, they got no bloody case. Just bcos they have a lawyer, they win? I thought you have a lawyer? Just check with him man!
  13. Today went out to recce for curtains: - 1) Went to Tanjong Katong Complex (Jimmy Textile) Very crowded and lots of people. The salesperson give me the feel of like "bo chap" and just quote and go 2) After dinner went to Eminent Plaza with my wife (MGL curtain) We reached there at 7pm and it is quiet. Service is a lot better. My personal opinion is MGL curtain is more interested.. We still cant make up our mind..Probably talk to Doris at D'zander 1st before making a decision.
  14. Probably for those who wants to engage them, talk to Patrick about the feedback u heard in the forum..Usually for reno with all the carpentry, i think it will talk 2 mths.. According to his worker, now they sort of do their own carpentry work. Maybe last time outsouce so better quality.
  15. Ok, usually ID rarely has HDB license under their own name despite a few has. If the question is does it matter for contractors/ IDs to have their own HDB license, the answer is "NO". However, the contractors or IDs must know what they are doing. For example, I hack and replace my main door frame. Out of 6 contractors/ IDs I source, 5 say HDB permit is a must. Only one ID say no need lah, even apply also won't approve blah blah and to me, no need better mah, else reject how? Luckily I read the HDB regulations and one of my ex classmate is an engineer in HDB and he say must follow. I also spoke to the technical officer in charge of my estate and he says permit is a must. Always remember that house owner is responsible for our house and not contractor. We can't act blur saying we don't know therefore we can be held responsible when something happens. This is very unfair but if anything screws, the law will come after the owner. Just try to read and understand the renovation guidelines at the HDB website.
  16. Tray to put soya sauce. Patrick get his guys to purchase for me my sink tap which my wife choose
  17. Some additional pictures to share: My full height kitchen cabinet in grey: My bottom cabinet with solid top installed: My top cabinet:
  18. hmm! Some contractor willing to do but for my contractor, he recommend us not to do that. Anyway, i feel having undermount makes it tough to change the sink when we need to. If ur contractor willing to do, then I guess ok.
  19. personally, I am not impressed with poo joh. Their customers service is extremely good before you purchase but after purchase: 1) I call them just on the dot before they knock off to do delivery a few days later. The boss pick up phone and say his worker left already, tell me to call tomorrow and just hang up. 2) I call the next day and ask for delivery when they told me got no stock. Before I pay, they promise 100% guarantee got stock because once I paid deposit, they will actually buy and stock in their shop so confirm chop got stock. Haha! See what happen 3) Before purchase, everything can, after purchase, this cannot, that cannot. Haha!
  20. if u wanna buy sofa, I only look for HTL international or domicil. I hate furniture mall because they look down on ppl. What the heck, ppl can easily take out $3k for a sofa but in reality, the shops at furniture mall sucks! If u want really solid quality, look at domicil sofa. German design and it looks **** solid!
  21. Guys For blum hinges, how many do we need per door? My contractor suggest 1 blum hinge + 1 normal hinge to save cost..Any comments?
  22. seriously, I never seen people boxing up aircon trunking. It is expensive n not so effective in my opinion because you can just paint over the trunking. When there is leakage, need to remove box up. In addition, also troublesome if u decided to replace trunking.
  23. master chang usually need to make quite some changes. Email him n hear what he say.
