This is really confusing. So far I only heard JASON GOH from U and B Design and Renovation. -
Ah Soon
carrot4 replied to juz_me's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Well, I think it's an excuse to say that "I have no budget, so I go for cheap and don't mind a non-registered contractor". There're plenty of contractors who are registered and still cheap. (This is when you gotta do your homework to find a suitable one). I also on very tight budget. Just graduated from school and just started working, where got $$$ to buy house and do renovation? Everything depends on loan now. So I'm still on my way to find a good and cheap contractor (not settle yet), but definitely I wont go for a non-registered one. Being computer illiterate and don't apply for a proper licence, is just an excuse. He can pay a little of money or favor to get someone else to do it. That person can be his son/daughter, his brother/sister, his neighbor, his relatives, friends ... Another thing I want to mention here (actually I've read it somewhere in this topic, from another member) that it is possible that there're some people who get referal fee from Ah Soon, and that makes Ah Soon become so popular and overrated... I don't want to point fingers, but it might be true... Like we all know that if we bring contractor to see lights, he will get referral fees from the lightshop.. This is what I read from the lighting topics. -

Ah Soon
carrot4 replied to juz_me's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Finally I find a forumer to say this. I actually doubt if Ah Soon was a HDB registered contractor, and asked if he was, but I didn't receive a straight reply. My posted question was burried and forgotten. Now reading your post, I can confirm my finding was right. I think if you don't feel safe taking a non-registered contractor, you should go for a registered one. The people over here should know Ah Soon is not, but they're willing to take risk because of cheap price. So no point warning them when they already know. As long as everyone is happy with their renovation... -
Eyeing on Simmon, but price cannot afford Maybe will buy 4 star. Is it value for money?

Thanks a lot Native02. Have sent Jason the floor plan. I'll send him my requirements to get a quote from him. Some of the contractors I met make me feel that there's room for "hidden charge". Hope Jason can give me a better quote.

thanks Nyewnyew. I'll not consider Sultan one. Still looking around ...

Hdb Approved Contractors
carrot4 replied to tkm's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Sorry I'm still quite blur about this. Please help me clear my doubt. Let say my contractor doesn't have a HDB license, but they use another firm that has the license to apply for the permit. Is it ok for me to engage that contractor? What's the consequence if it got caught? -
Preciousjam, thanks for the contact. Looking fwd to your renovation photos

I'm still searching for a suitable contractor. Probably I'll give Ah Soon a miss coz I'm really worried about the HDB licence. Really afraid he can't deliver on time or something goes wrong, and we can't legally solve the issue. Can I have Mr. Yeak's number? Is he HDB-approved? I really need a cheap but approved contractor
-
Hi, Heard the name "Ah Soon" quite a lot in this forum. Do you know if he's a HDB-approved contractor? Want to get quotation from him but he's always busy, never get back to me . Really worried that he's also like that after sign the contract. Any of you have the same experience? Wondering why we need to get HDB-approved contractors? I think non-approved ones are much cheaper, but is it ok to get them do our renovation? Sorry i'm blur blur about this, but still want to save money on renovation. It's really tiring searching for a good and cheap contractor

And anyone knows what to look for when buying a mattress? Saw Sultan's one from IKEA advertisement quite nice, but dont know how good it is ...
