At Long Last, A Place To Call Our Own
stormcontrol replied to stormcontrol's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
sianz. like that maybe instead of doing up a partition to level up a section of that wall, maybe i should tell joseph to do for me a partition for the the *entire* length of the wall. So no more problem of interface between partition board and wall except at the corner (which seems to be doing quite well.) Think joseph will faint though if he hears my idea =p -

6 months ah... makes sense lar. Let the hole become maximum, then fill it with plaster. once hardened the plaster will just be compressed if the spacing contracts, but when it expands it will fill out the hole... okay. will discuss with contractor. worst come to worse i have to plaster/paint myself 1/2 a year later lor >_<" -

For the bag hangar, Ah di say he will get me something even more durable than the one that ikea sells. Anyway my wife intends to hang her small handbags only nia so should be no prob. You know, those types you carry to chi-chi dinners or to hold ang pows in when you go bai nian during CNY? (****... we won't be collecting ang pows nxt cny anymore... jz realised >_<" ) Haha, glad you like the light too. Wife has been playing with the lighting modes non-stop every time she goes to the house. =p Yah, i'm paying uncle $60 to install fan lor. Better do a good job or else... As for the partition, yah will call joseph down to see how. But first draw up/print out a full list of rectification first. Give him 1 copy then he got no excuse forget this forget that le =p Called the aircon ppl le. Coming down today after my working hours to fix the problem. Please god let it all settle well. -

Now to the headaches and frustration. First off, the KDK ceiling fan. It's wobbling like crazy lor. It's so obvious it's eccentrically loaded lor. I'm actually not worried that it will fly off the ceiling and decapitate someone but i'm afraid that if it goes on like this, some component inside will spoil and KDK will void my warranty for poor installation. My electrician promise to come and secure it more tightly, but so far it's all talk only. See how it goes when he makes a second trip to install the lightings for my carpentry. Secondly, the partition that joseph helped me erect to level up my living room wall. The joint line between the partition and the wall proper is very obvious lor. Anybody got ideas how to fix it? Put more plaster/cement? but the thermal coefficient of expansion of the cement and the partition still different right? so sooner or later that will crack also?? i don't know man.... Lastly (and the thing that causes me the most grief), aircon. Hong Tar f***ed up lah... Price is good, materials look good but the technician who came to install must be eating snake like crazy lor. I don't know what material he used to patch up the holes he drilled in my walls to run the trunking but up till today, nearly a week le, the stuff is still white and spongy!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst still, for my living room fancoil, that white stuff is bulging out of the wall like some sort of tumour!!! and the walls around it have become wet and greenish!!!!! AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!! -

Got lights too for the guest bedroom and study area, but those are quite simple and straightforward so never take pics. But now, presenting our pride and joy, the MBR lights. Abit challenging to install this one as i wanted it to be installed at a 45 degree angle to my boxy MBR. Although, in the end it's a little bit crooked, but i think i'll accept what the electrician has done. Pretty good job: This chandelier-like light has LED + eight halogen bulbs. The LED got three colours: blue/pink/purple (but all show up as blue on my hp camera >_<) and three type of lighting modes for the LED and two lighting configurations for the halogen bulbs. This gives me a total of around 8 lighting modes (or is it more?) with which to play with. Got even a headache-inducing disco light mode >_<""" -

Never post updates this few days to the blog because quite upset and angry with some things happening inside the house. But i'll talk about that later. First show some pics, which i owe you guys (especially B_D, that one very siong in chasing photos leh. heng his attn not fully on me =p ) First off, IKEA pullout handbag hangers (at least that's what i feel it's for ): Lucky i post this after B_D's spree on sunday, else i'll feel guilty adding to your 80+ item shopping list hahaha. Btw, the clear plastic tray on top of the hanger is something else ah, not part of the hangers (for the more blur amongst us =p ) -
isit the V56VK? I got mine installed le. NOO!! the LED light is NOT enough to light up a room. Frankly, i have no idea what that feature is for. Some more my friendly electrician who helped me install the fan threw out the box + manual le

Sometimes, it's best not to listen to salesmen too much and form your own informed opinion. Especially those working in the big stores, cz they get commission off of sales mah, and the more unscrupulous of them will end up pushing the products which earn them the most commission. For tv: gaaraofthesand nailed it quite well. go for the features that you need the most. Slimmest TV (space constraints) = hitachi or samsung. Best picture quality = panasonic or pioneer plasmas (too subjective. use your own eyes to decide). Go hardwarezone forums and just take a quick read on the tv subforum (House of Displays) to get a better idea. For w/m: can't help you much since i ruled out front load right from the start (i find it irritating having to squat and bend down so much to reach my laundry). Best to lock on to one (or a few) models and go online and check out reviews for it! That's what i did before settling on my w/m.
