Updates: Went down to the house today with my parents. Unfortunately went in the late evening. Too bad too dark and my hp camera not good enough in low light situation. Sighz. L-box, false ceilings, partition are up. And uncle covered up my aircon trunking too. ****, forgot to tell the aircon guy that i wanted to install curtains to hide the aircon ledge window. Now the aircon trunking is placed in such a way that this is no longer possible. Sigh. My fault. Also realised also that one of the light switches that my electrician helped me shift is crooked >_<... placed a sign on it to tell them to fix it before starting to paint. Hope they heed me >_<" Haiz, tomorrow have to start working again le. Can only check reno progress/meet uncle at night. Hope everything works out ok while i'm not watching... ...

I'm not sure but i think armaflex may not be all that good. Just so happen both my place and my parent's place install aircon this week. My guys used thermaflex while my parents' guys used armaflex. My installer showed me how resilient thermaflex is by really pulling on it and attempting to tear it. I tried out the same with abit of armaflex over at my parents' house. It tore very easily lor. Maybe thermal capacity wise armaflex may be better bah? But mechanical wise, i feel armaflex quite weak. Of course in the end, it's the thermal capacity that matters lah.... *muse*

usually cove lights use flourescent light tubes. T5 seems to be the new standard size for cove lighting. As for wattage (brightness) and colour, best is to go lighting shop and ask them to show you or something bah... A design advice i get from lighting textbooks though is that you should stick to one colour light throughout most of your house.. Aubrey won't mind us hijacking one right? She's such a sweet girl =p

You were asking about the wood used in your carpentry? Is it three layers only (i think that's what i see in the pic)? Refer to Aubrey's t-blog, around page 17 onwards about the wood issue she had with her carpentry. Here it is.

Either smallboy or booy (their nicks too similar already lah) has tried out the cuizino hood/hob le. Their family very particular about hob one, and it passed their test so should be okay bah.

He'll only tell you how feasible your design is (whether it can be done) but he won't give much input over how good it looks. In fact, one forummer here put it very succintly, "would you trust the design of your house to an uncle who wears a dusty shirt and 3-quarters everyday??" =p

Cove light is ambient lighting mostly(not ambience!!) aka, it increases general luminance of the room and softens shadows, but ends up making things bland. Downlights (when not peppered all over the ceiling as main illumination device) create pools of light, drama, focuses attention on specific areas but creates shadows. Brightness for each can be made to fit your needs also. Just buy suitably high wattage lamps.

Hey guyz, anyone know what price range we should restrict our laminate choices to? Cz i'm looking at the EDL catalogue from Ivy and drooling very hard right now. I need to know my limits but i don't think uncle is awake to take my call now =p

Was also chatting with uncle today. He was telling me that he's quite stressed out nowadays. Cz 80% of his biz comes from the net. And he feels net biz very stressing to do. If don't do well ppl will spread it around online and he's rep go down fast and spoil business. Poor uncle =p

Hmm. Got film may not be enuff unless its those dark tinted type. Also use the film in conjunction with those tv screens with anti-reflective coatings lor. which rules out samsung tvs lor (the king of chio glossy screens =p )

smartie, this light colour is what temperature/color code ah? I'm guessing 4000k but i may be off lah. Think i'll aim for this color light for my whole house =p

@ivy: 1970s? then you should be around same age as my wife lor. Both of you baby face lah, cannot tell for sure hit 30s liao =p. No prob with the catalogues, in fact me and my wife ended up picking almost everything from the EDL catalogue. My god, that catalogue has some seriously nice laminates @rierie: all standardized now lor. same tiles, same designs etc. Walked past HDB Hub the other day, they were showcasing the optional finishes in the new BTOs. All the same type of flooring/tiles etc. =p Updates: Uncle fly aeroplane on me today. =(. Promised to get the false ceiling/L-box team in to do those stuff for me today but in the end push to tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed. At least met up with Ah Di to fully present to him our carpentry ideas else whole day lost today. Haiz, wife is nagging and complaining in my ear liao, why reno drag so long. Lolz, and everyone here is telling me good progress some more =p

Updates Updates! First off, a very big thank you to Ivy for passing me the laminates catalogues yesterday! Eh ivy, you got two kids ah? Cannot tell leh. I would have estimated that you are younger than me =p Lolx Right after Ivy passed me the catalogues, was going to hit the fast dial on my hp to call uncle to ride his *** for the delays in my reno when he beat me to the draw and called me first and asked to meetup =) Wah this meetup very siong. Uncle didn't tell me in advance but he brought his entire gang down. Carpenter (Ah Di) and electrician (Fei Zi) came down with him and and i ended trying to hold a conversation with all three of them on various aspects of my house. Lol! Although Ivy and a few of you guys recommended me to get ah wei if possible, but since Ah Di come already I also paiseh to push for someone else. So let him try lor. Shared with him our ideas and he took measurements and promised to get back to me with drawings. Hope Ah Di won't turn out like uncle need to chase one =p Uncle also passed us the ICI paint catalogue and the wife and I chose these colours: Living room/hallway/entrance: Light n Space Frosted Dawn TV wall: Pentalite Smoked Pearl (haha, realised that my colour for tv wall nearly the same as fannie's ) MBR: Light n Space Spring Blush Guest bedroom: Wash n Wear Bluebell Classic Pretty much confirmed. Now on to the headache of choosing laminates! =)
