The progress so far is good. Hb went down yesterday and said the plastering guy already plastered quite a number of walls. He saw 6 guys at work; 2 plastering, 2 tiler and 2 workers to clean up the place. He also saw new rolls of cardboards. We are guessing that they are going to either redo the whole protection (hee.. our wishful thoughts ) or patch up/ add-on protection to those torn areas (think more likely case). Hb going to discuss electrical works with electrician this afternoon. And they are going to acid wash of the bathrooms today, to prepare for plumbering tomorrow. Hee.. my super slim store only around 1m width. We are not doing shelving, as this area is to store big & tall items e.g. ladder, dismantled bed frames etc.
  2. Ummm.. we still thinking about it. Just thought that abit wasteful to throw those cut-outs. But it seems like the cost of doing the table up also not cheap.
  3. This door really completes your red & white kitchen look. Very outstanding and daring. effects. By the way, may I know where you get this energy saver switch? Is it expensive?
  4. Wow.. your shoe cabinet design very unique, doesn't have the usual shoe cabinet look. Look like a feature wall to me. Most importantly, I think it can hold quite a number of shoes. Your kitchen also have alot of work top. So nice.... more space to work with. By the way, your granite top is up already. Going for HO soon?
  5. Yah, I think your shoe cabinet look neat with the design. Are there drawers inside? I thought usually shoe cabinets are doors with shelving inside. Hee.. show us the insides.
  6. Hi trevorcantona, Welcome!! Hee.. I used to think that the hacking job can be done by anyone. After seeing your hacking pictures, I think it does need some skill to do the proper hacking. Look forward to your flat transformation~

Updates on the marble tiling: Hee.. the marble flooring at the bedroom is completed. All the marble skirting have also been put up for those new walls. The colour of the marble for the skirting is very nice. Matches my old one too. The skirting look ok, not very fat. Hee.. They even put inside the tiny store.
  8. Your description of the kitchen tiles remind me of my balcony's tile. But I flipped through your old posting and saw the tile sample. Darker than I imagined. hee.. but i think it will look good. Guess white walls are easy to go with most colours. I also saw your other tiles selection. Think your house going to be more interesting than mine with black tiles for mbr and study. Very unique choice.

Updates: Hee.. the balcony's floor also all done up. Sorry for the dark pic. Its actually white with faint grey lines. Hee.. luckily it kinda matches our marble floor as hb wanted the balcony area to sort of merge with the living area. Glad that we changed the tile to this instead of the initial light yellowish colour. The skirting also up. Look ok to me.
  10. Hee.. our kitchen also going for the same colour tone. Currently, the white wall + grey floor look quite ok. Hopefully with the cabinet turns out well. Did you go for grey kitchen floor tile also? Maybe our kitchens will look similar. Hee.. infact, I think both our reno progress quite close also.
  11. Hi AJ, I also saw your common toilet wall tiles at Hafary. The saleman introduced those as marble-look alike classy hotel style tiles to us. We didn't like brownish/yellow ones, so took the white range of the marble wall tiles. We're having them at the master toilet. Hee.. we like the clean look. But like what you said, it will look kinda bare if comparing against the others where they added mosaic / a strip of different tiles. Do keep the pics coming!

Updates Drainage pipe beneath the kitchen cabinet: We didn't discuss this aspect with Henry and team during the meeting. Totally forgotten about it. Was so glad that his men construct it straight as we were afraid water might not flow that smoothly if there is a turning there. Tiled pathway to the hole: Covered pathway: And finally, all covered up with opening covered by the tiles nicely. Pretty neat work. Here's my washing machine base:
  13. Your in-laws very resourceful, can find such good lobang for you. Recently, I am thinking if we should use the cut out granite top (hole for the kitchen sink & hob) to make into side tables etc. But I don't know if they will look good and if the cost can be justify. Hasn't really research on it yet. Got lobang for that?

Ventilation fan.... never really think of it. Are you putting for your toilet? I read previously from the forum where some said its illegal and some said its permitted. I .. but my toilet windows are up already. Guess too late to think of it. Maybe next time if got problem, then put up.
  15. Just to share, my hb bought a harddisk previously which can plug and play the movies on the tv. Recently, he bought a new gadget for his brother, size of a palm which allow plug and play the movie on the tv also. Think quite easy to use as its for my mil to watch those d/led drama. Maybe you can try those.

Wow, your reno also very fast. We also shifting out main door out to the recess area. Just settled with HDB yesterday, tomorrow shifting the electrical meter box out of my recess area. Do you need to shift any water / electrical stuff ?
  17. Hihi pink, You must be quite busy recently, hasn't seen you bubbling around. Good to see you back. My recess area application also almost done. We just went to the branch office to make payment this afternoon. The officer told us that our contractor can start to apply permit for the enclosing the area already. And 2 weeks later, they will ask us to go down again to sign the legal docs. Hee.. thankfully, our application progress quite ok.

Issue with the common bathrm kerb Common bathrm kerb: This is our kerb at the common bathrm. We were quite puzzled to see a 'stepped' kerb on Sat. Ah hui came over to check with us if there is any issue on this. He explained that they usually do the kerb in this manner if a bi-fold door will be install later. The 'lower' step is used to accomodate the bottom track of the bi-fold door. We were surprised to see this because Henry had told us previously that our bi-fold door uses the newer mechanism which come without bottom track. So we emailed this pic + sms Henry on Sat afternoon. Henry called Hb immediately, even before he access his email to check with us. During the call, Henry explained to us that they usually do such kerb for bi-fold door with/without bottom tracks. Reason being, he had feedbacks from some owners that the water in the bathrm tends to splash out without the stepped kerb. Hence, his guys now do all the kerb for bi-fold door in this manner, but if we want to 'flatten' the kerb, he will get his guys to redo this for us. We had a bi-fold door for our master bathrm previously, but that is with bottom tracks. So we wasn't quite sure how the new door mechanism will look like. In the end, we made the decision based on these reasons; 1) Hb trusted that the kerb height is good enough to prevent the water from splashing out, 2) even if the water spilts over, its the kitchen floor that get it, so should be fine, and 3) the shower area is not directly behind the door. Hence, hb told Henry to 'level' the kerb. I went over yesterday (monday) to look see look see and surprised to find that the kerb issue is settled. Ah hui told me that he had done up the kerb in a manner where the top part slightly tilted toward the bathrm. He hoped that by doing so, can help prevent the water from spliting over. Hee.. so kind of him. Here's the redo kerb. Very neat-looking.

Updates for Kitchen: Our kitchen floor tiles: We are clueless on which orientation should the floor tiles be laid on our first meeting. Henry suggested to lay them vertical as our living tiles are in this direction. The results look good as it also seems to help make the kitchen look 'longer'. Hee.. The fridge area: Henry had instructed his guy to tile the whole 'hole'. Hee.. previously we wanted to do top cabinet, but end up, we forgo it due to that beam on top. So we were wondering if they will tiled the back of the beam since it 'unseenable' from outside. Behind the beam at fridge area: Gudos to Henry & team, the whole area was tiled. Really quite happy to see that. As we think that most contractors are likely to leave that alone since it cant be seen. Flooring at the fridge area: Previously, the flooring here was marble floor so instead of overlaying them which is a simpler job. Henry instructed his guy to cut out the marble tiles carefully and re-tile with the kitchen floor tiles. This is better as the base would not be too high but more work as the guy need to be very careful during the cut. Very nicely done. Can you see that this area is actually the dining area and not part of the kitchen previously?
  20. Your layout is exactly same as my parents' place. Theirs beside amk sec. hee.. don't tell me you're their neighbour.
  21. Wow, you guys went to the marble factory to pick the table top. Sound coolz.. hasn't heard from anyone about this.
  22. The neighbour's ceiling got a hole from your floor hacking? That's quite scary. Frankly, if I am the neighbour, I'll also as the dust are likely to come into their house also. But don't brood over it, its not your fault. Try to get your contractor to fix up their ceiling asap, still need to face them for years even after the reno finish.
  23. Hi Ripples, Nice place you got. I think you managed the theme throughout the whole place very well. The furniture, colour and material that you chosen all went together, you are . The only thing that I don't like was the balcony feature. hee.. my personal preference la.. prolly cause my estate undergoing upgrading now, so the whole place fenced up with that metal thing.

Updates: The floor tiles for both bathrms and kitchen are all done up. Here's the pics.... Master bathrm: We told Henry and team that we wanted bases for all the pipes in the house and the bases must be round. Hee.. they really give us all rounded ones. These round bases are at the master bathroom. Common bathrm: Sorry for the dark pic. Very challenging to take a bright and clear pic for common bathrm due to its longish shape and the bright window at the corner. Here's the bases for the pipes at the common bathrm. Rounded also.

Good Morning P3nguins, The marble flooring was done up by the previous owner. We kept the marble flooring and replaced those areas that are affected by hacking. And also add new marble skirting to those new walls. Already feeling the pinch when we just do such a small scale. That day we were talking with the tiler, and he was saying that the marble flooring at our house should have costed the previous owner at least 15k. I was like... hee.. thanks.. me also go each time I see those tiles. Our sellers migrated to Australia for few years already. So they wasn't staying here and infact, we didnt see them at all during the whole purchase. It was handled by the power of attorney.
