Hi Ivy, Thanks for sharing. I roughly estimate the cost of all the hacking + tiling (floor & wall for 2 bathrm and kitchen) to be around 10k. Not sure if its too low/ too high. Actually I think the wall seems good to be there after viewing reiki's house reno picture. Quite unique. Hee.. not many flat layout allow such a wall at that position. The thought of building it back came to me after seeing reiki swee swee pictures.. hee.. but just a thought, think 70% will keep to the current layout. save $$..

Hi luckable, Thanks for sharing your view on the usage part. I think most just share their before & after reno pics without much sharing about the practicality part. Your sharings are great. Really appreciate them. May I check with you about how you feel about the stainless steel backing and also the top? Are they easy to maintain?

Thanks for the picture!! The other picture show the insides of the bathroom, but this 2nd picture doesn't really see the inside. Maybe cause of the angle when taking the pic? Hee.. you only do top half clear, is it not to see the person doing 'business'? I am thinking of having 2 clear frame (side by side) for the bifold door. I don't want the horizontal bar inbetween, not sure if its doable. Yes, common bathroom. My common bathroom is long, I am think of erecting a wall inside to block out the bathing & business area. So the clear door only see the washing basin area. Just one of my thinking concept. My hubby don't seem supportive of it. Hee.. he have the same concern as you.

Hey DNKY, Your individualised gate looks cool. Did you design the whole gate? Care to share the damage and contacts for the gate? Thanks!!

Hi Ashes02, Your transparent bi fold door got me all excited when i saw it. Because I have been thinking of having a transparent door with aluminium frames in my common bathroom. May I check if the transparent area is glass or acrylic? And the frame, is it wood or aluminium? And how much was you charge for it? Is it from uncle soon or outside contacts? Sorry for the many questions. If you don't mind, can help me take a full picture of it?

Hi oohaahcantona10, Your living look pretty neat and suit its style as a minimalist. May I check with you about the width of your living area (that is, the length of your window)? I am drawing up my living room with a L sofa so wondering how much is your space there, if you don't mind.

Hi demiglace, My view is different from you. I don't think I will box up my toilet pipe when its my turn for reno. Because the toilet pipes are good indicators of water seepage. If not for the water path that shown up on the toilet pipe, our toilet might have 'natural' rain fall soon. And we or no one will never know that the condition of the water proofing of our neighbour upside was already wear and tear until that badly where water start to seep through to our toilet (just below them). We are quite thankful that the ex-owner didn't box up their pipes. Luckily we spot the problem early, else I think we might have water dripping down from our toilet 'roof'. So now, unlike the most others, we are thinking of ways not to conceal our toilet pipes, aircon-trucking in a nice way. PS. I took some pictures of my toilet pipes that show the water path. I will post it on my topic for sharing. Sorry fondue to hijack your topic.

Hi payretep, Thanks!! I left around 20cm for allowance. Think should be enough. I saw this site from home decor.. its about country style decor. You might want to read them. http://kalescloset.blogspot.com/

Hihi Smallboy, Your layout is quite similar to mine too. May I know roughly how much you spend on the floor and wall tiling of your kitchen and bathrooms? Hee.. Thanks!!

Hi Payretep, I like your dresser table too. Very clever and neat way of hiding the mirror and keeping stuff. Do post more pictures when your furnitures come in.

Here's the more accurate floorplan of my place. I have done some editing to remove those walls that have been hacked by the previous owners and the wall that they built. The small red dotted portion is the recess infront of my entrance which we intend to purchase it. By the way, any one know how to calculate the cost of doing kitchen and bathroom's floor and wall tiling? I was looking at those previous topic but cant find any that teach how to calculate the damages. I am trying to do up the rough estimate cost for my budget. Anyone know?

We are on the 11th storey. Each time I take down those poles near the windows, I close the window grills as scare they slip and drop out of the window. U-shaped kitchen cabinet... sounds interesting. Is your cylinder gas beside the rubbish chute? Thats the place I intend to move my washing machine to. My washing machine is currently inside the common bathroom. Its there since the previous owner's time. But we thought its dangerous to have an electronic applicance inside the bathroom, so have been thinking of bringing it out. I saw that you hide your washer in the 'cupboard'. Very innovative and neat idea. But don't think we can do like you as we intend to have a top load washer.

Hi pinkpetter, Oh i see. So the hacking of wall also depends on the hacking of my neighbours. Learnt something new again. We are on the 3rd floor from the top. Hopefully, got more chances of hacking that wall. By the way, can I email hdb to ask if that wall is hackable? Think its easier to plan. Cause now i don't know whether to plan with that wall there or not there. What do you think?

Hi fondue, thanks for sharing your idea. Shorten the facing cabinet might work. But the clothes will be hanging beside it on top. Don't know if it look weird to see clothes beside the cabinet. Currently, drying area (indoor) is an L shape on top cause we got quite a number of clothes to hang every wkend.

Hi Aubrey, Are you going to stay in during the reno? We have already moved in to our place but yet to reno. So we are considering what's our next step, whether to stay-in / rent a room first. I spoken to 1 ID previously (afew moons ago). And he told me that if we are staying in during the reno, the cost is higher as more troublesome for them to do up the flat. As this is the only ID that we sat down and had a proper discussion, we don't know if this is the market practise. How was your experience with your ID?

Hi Pinkiedreamy, I missed this post. If you don't mind, can you pm me the rough cost of the quartz that those IDs quoted you? I am trying to work out my budget. Thanks in advance.

I see i see. My kitchen is 5.35 x 2.9, shorter than yours. So I guess we can still do the facing cabinets like you, since our width are quite close. But the thing is.. currently our bamboo sticks are hung vertically along the kitchen. So if we were to do the facing cabinets.. we cant hang our clothes up there and I don't dare to put them outside. Scare I drop them / drop myself.

1. I think white kitchen look very nice. But need quite some efforts to maintance its look. 2. No idea. We never do laminate/parquet before. 3. I think air-con in living/dining area is mainly for gathering at home. So depend on whether you guys always have guest over. 4. We are thinking of induction hob as we don't have government gas piping at home. I think stainless steel hob quite easy to clean as my mum always keep them sparkling clean. No experience with glass hob. 5. The common balcony door are the sliding ones. I think white/creamy bifold glass door have an elegant look. 6. 60cm on both side.. then do you have any kitchen cabinet at either sides? if there is, have to check if the doors/ drawers can open properly. I think the kitchen might look narrow. 7. My own preference is dining table, as I don't like to climb up those top chairs. 8. The best is to hack and lay as we don't know the condition of the current flooring. And like mentioned earlier by the others, the floor won't look too high and more spacious. Just to share my views with you.

Hi Pinkiedreamy, If you always have friends coming over, then its better to go for a dining table. Else where to dine with your friends? But I agree with metalsubzero, if possible, do a bar table + dining table. My bro-in-law have both at home, the bar table is at the the living room (somewhere inbtw the living and balcony area), where they place their laptops and surf net there. And the cabin below the bar table holds their files etc. So that bar table actually double-up as a 'working' deck for them. Can watch tv while they surf too.

Hi familyof4, If its ok, please also let me have a copy. Trying to work out my place also. Thanks in advance.

Ok, thanks!! Errmm.. it would be super best if you can post a pic of your bedroom door. But nevermind if its too much a hassle.

Hi Tobiko, We are thinking of changing all the bedroom doors. Can I check how much does it cost you to change the bedroom doors? Thanks!
-
I see. I see. Yah, my mum also prefer to cook with 'real' fire. They just cant get use to adjust the screen to lower the heat, must see with their eyes that the flames become smaller. Hee.. I also heard that some old flats cant support the electricity load of induction. So I think that's another issue too. Have to read up on that.

Hi Reiki, I went to look at your blog. Its your place that I should WoW! Did you have 2 entrance to your kitchen? 1 from the living and 1 from the dining.. very unique.. What is the wide of your kitchen? Seems quite wide even with the 2 rows of cabinets. Think wider than my kitchen. We are 122sqm. What about yours?
-
I went to see your floor plan. Yes, very similar. Only our MBR abit different. I think our common bathroom is the same, except that they spilt yours into 2 area while mine is a deep long one. Think yours better, got a designated area for each purpose. For my place, the wall right in-front the entrance is already hacked off by the previous owners. I am thinking if its possible to hack off the wall that is 'right-angle' to this wall to open up the kitchen. Any idea where can I ask? Email HDB ? Will they entertain me?
