Updates on Main door: Continues from above.... Hee.. I learnt from the forum that fire-rated door will come with some markings etc. So we were looking around the door for it on Sat. And we saw something stating the serial number, company name & model etc at the corner of the door. Very well-hidden that most people won't notice it at all. Hee.. which was good as the door will look ugly if this is at somewhere obvious. Here's the pic.... We guessed this should be the 'certification paper' for our fire-rated main door. There's one on the frame too, so we are thinking..... maybe the frame is fire-rated too? Ok... the completed look of our main door....... Viewing from inside the house. And from the outside..

Updates on Main door: Our main door came together with the bedroom doors and was installed on the same day. Unlike the others who can install their doors at the last part of the reno, we had to install the main door first as we need to get the new gate up so as to hack off our existing entrance frame. My hb was around to monitor the installation and he found that the new door can actually reach the water pipes behind. So hb informed the door installer to be careful with it. However, the door still knocked on the water pipes which was sort-of 'loosen', causing a minor leakage (very slow dripping kind). Hb called our contractor immediately to let him know about it and Henry told us that he will arranged someone to go down. Hb didn't managed to see the person who was supposed to come, so he left our place after placing a pail underneath the 'dripping' pipe. We went back the next day (sat) to check on it.. expecting the pail to be filled with water. But the pail wasn't filled, infact there's only very little water in it. We guessed someone had came before us to empty the pail. We went back on Sun again as we were concerned about the water overflowing from the pail. But same thing happen again, someone was before us and the pail was almost empty by the time we got there. Ummm.. so we didn't managed to empty the pail at all. Anyway, the pipes have been fixed already. Here's the pic... Our main door before installation. The side view of the door before installing it to the frame... we are guessing the middle portion is the fire-rated thingy that cause the price to soar for the fire-rated doors. During installation, the door kinda knocked into the water pipes behind...and caused the pipes to 'loosen' or something.. and there was a slight leakage.. (minor dripping kind).. Our new door was also slightly hurt from the knock.... though its not obvious, me still heartpain.. cause its our new door... here's the wound.... Hb had told Henry about it and he will do something to it.
  3. Hi Dyleen, I read about your living rooms switches placed near the rooms. I am thinking, what if you just return from outside at night, so you need to walk in the dark from the main door to the switches before you can see any light? I thought that was pretty scary, cause my place now renovating, the whole place will be dark after 7pm and if we placed the switches near the rooms, we will be walking into our place in the dark when we enter the house after work. And esp. after my shopping trips, walking with lotsa shopping bags. Hee..
  4. Hey AJ, Your wall mural designs are nice. But my personal preference would be to have your wife/yourself pics on the wall instead. Think it will have a more homely feel. Hee.. e.g. the Audrey Hepburn one, can be easily done by going a makeover and converting the final pic to a black/white pic. My personal preference la.

Good Morning Beany, Thanks for the pic. Seems like its common for the doors to have bare tops & bottoms.. No problem, we're glad that we have highlighted some stuffs that are useful around. Do share with us how your ID retify it.
  6. Hi BD, Good to see you back with pics. Your flat seems to be completing soon. Personally, I think the hanging light seems to be placed too near to the wall/corner as the shade size is quite big. And I noticed that this hanging light is next to the window, got to be careful with opening the windows. Just my opinion.

Hi forkie, I see i see. Hee.. so I guess its common for those doors suppliers to leave it bare, since most owner seldom check on those parts. Do share with us on your ID's comment about this. Hi coffee_o, Yes, we also thought should at least lacquer those parts so that the dust/dirt cant settle 'inside' the wood. Besides that, we are also worried about the ants / other insects using those 'holes' as their expressway and the moisture issue during mopping etc. On a separate note, we are quite glad that our contractor is very 'steady' when we highlighted it. He called the door installer back to settle for us immediately after hb ask him about it.

Hi Red_devil, Hee.. I saw from your blog too. My hb was there during the installation. According to my hb, the door supplier actually come down afew days inadvance to measure the doors first and then do the sawing etc at the factory. They don't saw the doors at the customer place as its very messy and need bigger machine to do it. Thats why all the doors come with the 'right' height when delivered. The door installer told us that the veneer piece at the front and back are also painted with several layers at the factory before bringing over. My doors are all dismantled now as they cant work on the bottom parts without taking them down. Hope the results will be ok, at least lacquer it or something.
  9. Hi coffee_o, That's our concern too. My contractor had instructed his guy to take all my doors down to fix the top and bottom after we informed him about it. I am not sure what's the resolution as my hb was the liaising person. Hee.. Hopefully the results will be good.

Hihi Newnyew, So far, everything is ok. Still got around 3 more weeks to go. They just started to assemble my kitchen cabinet today. hee.. uploading some pics to post later. That's a great suggestion to sand off those parts first. We had emailed those ?? pics above to my contractor and he said will settle for us. Hb said the door guy came today to dismantle all the bedroom doors already. Think they are going to do something to the top & bottom. But I what they are going to do. Hopefully, the end results are good. hee..

Hi Beany, We are not really detailed people. Just happened to spot some of these.
  12. Hey red_devil, We have the same doors. Hee.. Yes, do check the top of your door to see if its 'raw'. You can see mine at my blog.
  13. Hi Beany, I have no idea for this. We didnt go for the glass panel, our flip-open cover is laminated like the cabinet door. So we are not so concern for the smashing of the glass. But my worries are whether the constant opening & closing with wet hands will affect the wood. Fix one issue and another came up. Guess got to wait for the others to share their experience with the hydraulic / soft closing mechanism.
  14. Hi Newnyew, Your tv console is all mirror? That's cool. Hee.. your flooring + mirror reminds me of the dancing room. Looking forward to your completion pics.

Updates: I think I missed out these ugly pics on the door lock last night. Here's the other end of the lock on the frame. This is on my old existing frame. Very ugly right? According to Hb, its due to the paint from the old frame that is peeling off when they install the metal piece. This is the other one also on my old existing door frame. Looks ugly also. But the issue seems to lie with my old existing door frame. Hopefully they will look better after the painting. This one is on the new door frame. The painter had painted a coat on it, not sure if its the sealer or base paint. But the door frame still look very 'raw' with the painting, guess there will still be more touch-up on it. By the way, we noticed that the metal piece seems to be 'protuding' out. Is that normal? All along, I thought the metal piece will ends at the door frame. Hee.. this is not a major issue, just curious about it.
  16. Hihi coffee_o, Read that you also purchasing your recess area. We actually had the same experience as you when we tried and request to buy the recess area together with our flat purchase. The whole procedure is quite troublesome. For the application for the purchase of recess area, its under 'control' of the branch office, instead of HDB. And previously when my hb went down personally to check, the officer claims that we are not owner of the flat yet so we cant use the standard online form to apply. Then the matter just ding dong here and ding dong there as it's so-called a 'special' case since its not those usual recess area application by owners. And yes, it took ages and like what the HDB officer had forewarn us, its going to delay our flat purchase. In the end, we decided not to go ahead with the purchase of recess area. We just settled the flat purchase and once we are owner of the flat, the whole application process for the recess area became more straight forward. Recently, we just re-apply for the purchase of our recess area. And thank god, everything went through very smoothly. I am not sure which stage is your application now. But if you are facing issue with the recess area application where your flat purchase is affected/delayed, you might want to consider pulling out of the recess area application first and once you finished your 2nd HDB appt, apply for the recess area online. I think it might be much faster.

Hi Beany, Thanks thanks. Sorry to trouble your hb to check. I think I am the only weird one around to look at the top. Seems like no one check on that.

Hihi Reiki, Great to see you around. Yes, we were pretty shocked when we saw it. So we thought of checking around first before asking our contractor about it. But like what you mention, its going to be an issue for cleaning. And we are kinda keeping everything to our ease of maintenance theme so this top part is kinda off. Will check with our contractor to see what can be done about it. Thanks. I thought my blog was pretty boring. Nice to know that you actually enjoy reading it.
  19. Hi natgw, Me agree with beany. Though I always read your blog, I didn't post. So please don't feel upset. We enjoy reading your updates, just that we didnt post. Keep the pics coming. Ermm.. Its school holidays for the whole of this week.
  20. Hi Ivy & F4, Thanks for responding to my question. At least I know it might be a common industrial practise. Hi Forkie, Sorry to hi-jack your blog. I'll wait for your answer tonight. Thanks in advance. Hi Seashell, We're not sure if they are saving for the top, just got abit shock to see that. Thats why asking around if its common before we talk to the contractor about it.

Updates: There's a stopper provided at the back of each door. Quite close to the wall when its 'stick' on. The magnet is quite strong. Need to use some strength to pull them apart. hee.. Here's the complete look of the bedroom doors. Everything seems ok with the doors. But I am curious about the 2nd picture (of the previous post) that my hb took during the installation which shows some sections as raw wood. I wonder if they had 'laminated' those areas or left them raw. We climbed up to take a look and was pretty surprise to see the area in raw condition. This is what we saw.... We are not sure if its a normal standard / practise to leave the top portion 'exposed' / 'raw'. Can anyone please share your experience with us?
  23. Hi Beany, Can I check with you if the top portion of your room doors 'exposed'? My doors are just installed, but we noticed that the top portion are 'raw'. We're not sure if that's the usual standard. Can you please me take a look at your doors? This is what I saw what I climb up to see the top of my doors:
  24. Hi Forkie, Can I check with you, for your bedroom doors, is the top portion of the doors 'exposed'? My doors are just installed and we found that the top portion is left 'raw'. I wonder if this is the normal practise. Can you help me take a look at yours? This is what I mean by 'raw' top.
