Hihi, Nope, they are not tempered glass. I cant remember what kind of glass, but very certained that they are not tempered glass as we asked them this qn too. The lady was telling us that there's a kind of film that is on the glass. So in the event that the glass crack etc.. it will not break into pieces but will be like a web kind as the film will hold on to the glass. If I didnt remember wrongly, there is no wood backing behind the glass. The glass is 'framed' with metal thingy for support. Each door is around 1m. It isn't too heavy or light for the opening/closing. Only when we tries to open the door while its doing the 'soft-closing' that we can feel there is strong resistance. Hee.. we trying to spoilt the soft closing mechanism.

Thanks. Our initial idea is just to recycle our poles actually. Yes, we're thinking of throwing all the luggages up there as well as putting the vacumed winter clothing, bedsheets, curtains into boxes etc... and up they all goes.. hee.. perfect space for it.

Hi Beany, The polishing looks ok to us. But I think still early to give any comments on it. Hee.. We recently heard from the upstair neighbour uncle that our marble flooring is actually 3rd hand. Gosh... no wonder some areas are quite stained. I sort-of mentally prepared myself that our flooring might not be 100% nice already. Because I think polishing cant do much to deep stains. By the way, we also found 2 deep dents in my mbr recently. Shall see if the polishing can remove it later. *crossing our fingers for it*
  5. I think its more of a personal preference. For us, we have the spaces to install the shower screen, but we didnt do any shower screen for both bathroom. Reason being, we are more concerned about the cleaning and maintenance part. hee.. If you really want to install a shower screen, think the chances of having one at the mbr should be higher. As your mbr bathroom seems slightly bigger than your common one (from the floorplan) and the w.c. in the mbr bathroom also helped by not 'standing' in the way. hee..

Updates on the Pole System: Continue from above.. While planning the pole system, we can choose to either flush the doors with the bathroom's entrance or to do just the minimum depth required for a wardrobe (meaning around 60cm). But we thought it will look nicer to flush with the bathroom's entrance. Those electrical switches for the bathroom lights, storage heater etc, was also one of our considerations during the planning. We'll have to think of a nice place to house the switches as they will really 'stand-out' if they are placed along the passageway. In the end, we planned those switches to be behind the doors and can only be access by opening the last door. Hee.. by doing so, think we also achieve a neater look for the passage way. Here's the wires for our bathroom switches that are not install yet. We'll need to open the last door to reach them. Closing the door next to the bathroom will hide the switches from outside. The left side of the wardrobe was used to hide a beam on top. So there are actually some spaces at that side. Initially we thought might be a wasted space as it seems difficult to reach during our planning. Now seeing the real thing seems like not bad. Hee.. maybe can be use to hide the ironing board etc..

Updates on the Pole System: Continue from above.. Hee.. we are doing an all-hanging bar wardrobe, so nothing interesting for the insides. Just two rows of hanging bars for each columns and a shelving for the top section to keep bigger stuff. hee.. quite excited with the space. Here's the pics~ From the mbr view From the bathroom view We recycled our flap-out mirror. Hee.. just fold it out when we need to use it. Very convenient to use it. We got another full length mirror inside the mini carpentry wardrobe. Hee.. managed to hide all my mirrors away. This is the gap inbetween the insides and the door. We can stand inside it with the door closed behind us. Hee.. but too squeezy if we want to change our clothes inside.

Updates on the Pole System: Our pole system was finally installed last week. We went to several places to source for the quotes and realised that its better to go back to our original seller. Hee.. cause its more cost-effective, efficient and flexible with our request on modifications. We did consider building a real carpentry wardrobe as the costs are quite comparative between the two. End up, we still go for the pole system as we were concerned about the moisture from the mbr bathroom. Previously we had an open-concept system for our poles, meaning no door. And we noticed that its quite dusty for the inside, e.g. for those shirts that Hb seldom wear, the dust actually settle down at the shoulder area and over time, it got quite dirty though the shirt wasn't wore. So this time round, we decided to go for the doors. We didnt gave much thoughts to this initially and just drew 3 panels for the doors during the initial discussion. We later noticed that the 3 panels might not be user-friendly as only 1 panel can be open each time and I didn't like this limitation. So we changed our requirements to be 4 door panels so that at least 2 panels can be open each time. When we later go back to our original seller to change the quote to be a 4 panel doors, the nice lady asked us the reason for the change. And we later work out that we can actually install three panels on 3 tracks. This is a much better option as we can access to more areas at the same time. The downside of this is.... the frame will be bigger as it need to take in 1 more additional track. We are ok with it as our pole system area is quite 'deep'. We also checked with the installer on the pricing to install additional soft-closing for the doors. But we didnt went for it as we don't know whether its lasting or necessary. A few days later, the installer gave us a surprise. He told hb that they will provide the soft-closing for all the 3 doors f.o.c. . Its really a surprise for us as we didnt even ask from him and he gave us on his own initiative. What a pleasant surprise. Here's the pic~~ These are the tracks... at the top. Here's the bottom tracks. Quite flat so no issue to step on them when we want to take out clothes. These are the f.o.c. soft-closing for the doors. Really love playing with them. Here's the doors... Hi Tuababy, Thanks for the tip on the vanish for additional protection.
  10. Hi Lord Vader, If I am not wrong, it means the flame ignitor is operated by battery. We too didnt noticed this during our hob purchase. It's only when my electrician is doing up the wiring that he asked us whether he need to run an extra point for the hob. We got no idea. But the lucky part is... our contractor told us to deliver our stuff early, so the electrician is able to open up the box to check for us.

Updates on Polishing (areas beneath carpentry): Continue from above... After all the hardwork, here's the polished area in my mbr. Hee.. can see that they leave the other side of room untouched. That area will only be polished after carpentry are installed. Hb said the polished floor seems to be very clean after all the water etc. He even took off his shoe to walk on it. Both of us are thinking.. maybe don't need to clean too much after the final polishing cause the worker had 'mop' for us already. And this is at the tv console area.

Updates on Polishing (areas beneath carpentry): Continue from above... As shown in the pic, there are 2 colour for the marble at this area of my mbr. The darker ones are those newly tiled ones after we hacked the wall at this area, so the worker need to level the new marble to those of my old ones (at both ends as the wiw area also had old marbles). Hb said he was sweating all the way while polishing it and spend quite some time to do the leveling. Alot of white powdery stuff from the leveling of the marble. Think really alot of work, as the worker still took out his mini machine for the edges. After which, the worker continue with the usual polishing.

Updates on Polishing (areas beneath carpentry): From the start of our reno, we were quite concerned about polishing as we got alot of barang barang to move around. So we asked Henry when will the polishing come in? Before/ after carpentry? Henry told us that it will be after carpentry as he doesn't want the carpentry will mess up the polished flooring, so polishing will be the last item on the list and we can be rest assured that we only need to move our stuff that time. That means still got time to plan the moving around. However, after we confirmed our pole system and partition installation date, Henry informed Hb that he will get the polishing team to come over once the partition wall is up to polish the mbr first as it'll be more difficult to polish the area with the poles. We didn't place any of our barang barang in the mbr so its ok for us. Initially, both of us thought that the whole mbr will be polished and im slightly worried as the carpentry at mbr is not install yet so the polished floor might can 'hurt' during the carpentry installation later. But no choice la, cause the floor at the pole system need to be polished first. On the day of polishing, then we realised that the polishing is only for the areas where the carpentry will be installed, such as the mbr flooring at our workstation, wardrobe, pole system and the living room floor at the TV console. Meaning, the later round of polishing will include the rest of the mbr and the whole house. We thought this is quite good as it'll be more difficult to polish these areas after the carpentry is up, esp. the area under the tv console as the machine might not be able to go under the tv console and yet that area is so 'visible' to our eyes. So this polishing will kinda ensure that those hard-to-reach corners are also polished at least once already. Here's the pics~ The machine used for polishing. The worker was telling hb that there is another bigger machine which is good for big area. The worker will put some water first before the polishing. Unlike the old polishing pattern where the whole floor will be flooded, the newer way of polishing doesn't use alot of water. This is my tv console area and the wrapped 'mountain' beside it is my barang barang. And this is not the only 'mountain' that we had, got two more 'hills' in the rooms. This is what you see after the machine starts to polish the floor. Hb said those white stuff is the powder that was polished from the marble. The worker will then clear up the area. Afterwhich, they will use a sandy colour material to polish again.

Its ok. I finally sent the reply over, its in my unsent for awhile. Hee.. Wow.. when are you guys starting your reno? Hee.. mine still not ready yet and its quite simple kind. We going for easy maintanence theme so alot of things never do, like vanity basin, cabinet in bathroom, shower screen, false ceiling/L box and hanging lights. And the best part is.. we ask them not to conceal wires and pipes. Abit 'abnormal' from the usual trend now. So I think should ask him bring you to go and view those nicer reno kind, then got more stuff to look at.

Hee.. went over yesterday to take a look. The insides are quite spacious. But if I want to stand inside and close the door, then abit squeezy to do it. We're have 2 hanging bars top & bottom and the very top part a shelving to put boxes/ luggages. The other mini one will lean against the real wall facing the door. Will share the pics soon.
  16. Hi adidas78, We got our toshiba invertor (my hb's decision, I know nuts about aircon) from Marina Sq GC also. Victor Lim is the salesman who served us, very knowledgeable and patient guy. He helped us to arrange the dismantling of the old units at the last min after we realised that our contractor cant remove the compressor outside 1-2days prior our hacking begins and he managed to get his staff to come on the 1st day of our hacking. We also have a good time during installation with the GC technicians. You can read my experience at my blog http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...0446&st=280 The only issue that hb had was with the office to arrange for the installation date & timing. But hb said small issue, just that they abit funny.

Hi Amrasenelya, Thanks. Glad to see you around, I tried to reply your pm last time but the system gave me the message that your box is full. Yes, this WIW is not done by Henry. We need to go back to the original seller for the modification of our old pole system, so got the whole thing from them instead. We had another separate wardrobe by Henry's carpentry team for our folded clothes. Initially, we wasn't sure if the idea will work so we asked Henry for his opinion beforehand. Henry drew the lines for the partition track on the wall for us so that we can roughly understand where the partition will start and have a clearer pic. Although Henry didnt do this for us, he still got to plan the time schedule for us, so that his work can be co-ordinated (such as the electrical work, polishing and painting). After this partition is up, Henry arranged for the polishing guy to come up the next day, just to polish the wiw, wardrobe, workstation and tv console area. Because he want to ensure that the flooring are polished before the installation of the carpentry and pole system. And he didnt want to delay the installation of our pole system, so he very efficiently arrange for the floor to be polished the next day. Honestly speaking, I think most will forget this as how many will check the floor beneath the wardrobe (for example), especially since its installed already. So we are glad that he's into details like such.

Hihi Pet, Yes, your eyes are good. Always so observance. The area is quite deep. The poles have been installed yesterday afternoon and according to hb, there is still a depth space for us to stand inside with the doors closed. I am not sure how it is as I have not seen it yet. My guess is... to squeezy to stand inside with closed doors. Anyway, we didnt plan to 'change' behind the wiw doors, just wanted the doors to flush with the bathroom entrance. Yes, the whole stretch is for hanging bar. We have another tiny wardrobe just next to the WIW partition with drawers to put our folded stuff.

Hi coffee_o, I guess initially will still look abit bare as our clothes probably cant fill the whole hanging stretch (i hope not ). So that we can have some space for 'future expansion'. We didnt have enough hanging space to share between the two of us previously. So this time... we increased the hanging space to more than double of the ex-one. Hee..

Hi Pet, Hee.. think only the 'frame' look big. Its going to be quite bare compared to most of the wiw, as we are having only hanging bar for this whole stretch.
  21. I think the easier way will be to do a 2-way switch for the living room lights. We have instructed the electrician to do it already. There will be 2 switches which can control my living room light, one next to the main entrance and the other one right inside my mbr. Hee.. The 2-way are really very useful, we have been using them for the past 1yr+ as the previous owner of my place installed 2-way for the kitchen, living room as well as dining room.

Updates on WIW: Continue from above.... Finally.... the last step was for the worker to paint the 1st coat for the frame. Here's the pic taken from the wiw entrance. Taken from mbr bathroom. Hee.. last but not least.... this is taken from the mbr. The new partition wall look good as it flushes with the beam.

Updates on WIW: Continue from above.... After securing all the metal stuff, the worker worked on the partition wall. Hb said they put in some wire mash stuff to strengthen the partition further. hee.. The worker then starts plastering the 'wall' to smoothen it. And for the corner, they used this metal corner thingy to sharpen the edges. Im quite surprised that they used metal instead of plastic for the corner, as the previous plastering uncle uses plastic ones. Hb checked with the workers and they explained that they used metal for the partition wall as its going to support the frame and doors later. This is how the partition look like after plastering. All the edges look so smart and sharp with the help of the metal thingy. Left side corner Right side corner

Updates on WIW: Continue from above.... These are the frames that the worker 'fired' the bullets to secure those metal stuff to the wall. The purpose is to provide greater support to the glysum board which will be used as the frame for the doors. The right side of the frame had a small beam which is just above the bathroom entrance. This small beam will probably be hidden away after the doors are up. The left side of the frame also had a beam on top which is much bigger. The partition wall will try to flush with the beam from above and hide the beam away from the mbr view. Hb said they used those gadgets with laser to ensure that the lines are straight and measurement accurately taken. Here's the top part.

Updates on WIW: The partition wall for my pole system have been installed last Friday. We outsourced this portion as we have previously bought the pole system and the poles needed some simple modification to 'recycle' them. So we went back to the same place to do the modification, add-ons as well as installation. These pics are taken by hb who was there to monitor the installation. Here's the pics! The worker installing the structure first before putting the boards on. We wanted the partition to flush with the beam on top from the front, so the worker was careful with his measurement. According to hb, these are the row of 'bullets' that was used to secure those metal for the partition. This is the gun that the worker used to 'fire' into the walls/ceiling. Can see the inserted row of 'bullets' insert sticking out from the top. The bullet will look like this after its 'fired' onto the walls.
