Yes, it will rust after a year or so, depending on the condition of the steel and the paintwork. Wood can be sprayed gold also. I brought a side table from IKEA 6 years ago, sprayed paint and it still good. Recently just apply oil paint on it and used it as outdoor side table. Saw some company selling this type of concept of bed which you pull down is a bed, you push up is a study table. Maybe u can purchase it, cost few hundred $ only. Cheaper and you don't need to DIY if brought from IKEA.

I don't really agree with you that all contractors unable to do up a good job. I feel that my contractor had done up a good job for my penthouse condo and is responsible too. There are also a few recommended good contractors in this forum too.

Look for an contractor, u may get cheaper quote. But it still bottom down to the laminate they used and the materials.

U can try sungei kadut ...got lot of furniture shops. Go in any shop and look ard, saw something u like, act not interested infront of the sale person, then pretend to ask price shake your head a bit, talk to your partner that the shop across the road design not bad and is cheaper, ask the sale person again got discount not, if not walk away. Mostly, they will call u back once you reached the exit door and said manager willing to give discount. Another way is to bring your ID along, he should be able to bragain for you, just like my contractor. I saved $500 for my sofa + free delivery + free 6 cushions + no gst + black and white put down 5 years warranty. Hope there no sale person here, if not next time this tactic cant be use liao

Yes it really consider cheap for $1K. What I knew is, it normally cost ard $1.3K - $1.6K to hack, everything and erect a new wall for that size. So yours is still consider cheap, don't worry

If that the case u can place 2 central air-con on each side. Actually, it use only 1 condenser but cool 2 area, just like cinema, shopping centers, offices, etc....And I can tell u that, it will be cold enough that u might need to adjust the temp.

Why so troublesome when u can install a central air-con in between the rooms which can blow into the two areas.

I prefer to said it in another way 2 layers of plywood, 3 layers or 4 layers, hollow plywood..etc.
