  1. thanks Mrs Piglet & Family of Four. well, from the looks of it, hopefully living room tiling can be done by tomorrow, and we can start with plastering, and electrical works cant wait for the carpentry to start, should be very interesting. i am also harbouring the thought of colouring stripes for the children's room. heehee, wonder if the painter will accomodate.. crossing my fingers and toes that all be done before 20th June next month! so far so good after the initial ding dongs.. i must say, my group of tilers are really good..! i hv yet to fully scrutinise each tile and grout, but on the whole, they look neat and tidy. we bought almost all the big items, except the tv and system. we are hoping to target the GSS to grab a 42" samsung series 6 or 7 tv at a good price. Eyeing for those that come with home systems To save costs, we have avoided changing the following:- 1) All the windows in the house (except the toilet windows) 2) the main door & gate (its newly upgraded from the HDB Main Upgrade Project) 3) L-Box for the small MBR (no point le, too small a room to put it up), have to go look around for a drop down light instead 4) shower screen in the incredibly small Common toilet as well But still, the total damage at this point is S$28K!!! alamakz, going to faint... i tried my best liaoz...
  2. wow! thanks wakzool!!! its really a sweet of you! care to share your buy with me i certainly hope they will be fine next month end
  3. strange, i had to break my post up into two as it simply cant upload , error message "too many fotos??" Apart from this, the wall for my mini W-I-W in my MBR is done up, tiling for both MBR and Common toilet done up complete with grout lines. Think its a nice job done, maybe because we skipped the mosaics and its easier to tile. You guys should see how TINY the MBR toilet is!!! i have to slim down more! Both toilets windows were replaced with nice WHITE nato ones, yummy! they look GOOD! New door way for the MBR is also constructed! our brand new WHITE nato windows for toilets new doorway for MBR toilet Progress looks good, aircon trunking up, thou we need the fujitsu guys to come and ractify the living room unit, otherwise, i believe tiling should be completed this week! yippee! electrical & capentry should be due soon!!
  4. wow, i totally apologize for M.I.A for the past 7 days, much has happened and i am still trying to groupe with the fact that i lost a good friend/ sis in law last friday. May you rest in peace, Ivy. Being absent from my reno process, i was awed to see so many changes. First, my white kitchen is finally taking shape, with the kitchen walls and floors done. However, we soon realised that there was a major mistake and miscommunication between the tilers and Alan, and our fully flushed kitchen floor did not take place. Uncle Soon had to re-order the tiles they have finished tiling and also add on stryofoams on the floor to level up the height of the kitchen floor to the same as the living room. Good job to Uncle Soon and Alan for rectifying the mistake done quickly. we also have a brand new shiny PURPLE chute up as well! (i was hoping for the PINK) My white kitchen - with the wrong tiling for flooring My purple chute Unflushed Kitchen floor, look at the drop down! We were afraid the kids will trip over the kerb and thats why we insisted on a Flush flooring. Stryofoams added to raise the height of kitchen floor
  5. Day 2 & 3 Walls come tumbling down initially, i was a little sketical about having to knock so many walls down, as i was told we will have to rebuild them in future when we do sell the flat, hence the hesistant. After this panel of wall came down, i am more than glad to have it totally remove. before after the entrance of the kitchen shall be pushed back by 1m with 4 full height clear glass panels to widen the room. Some minor decisions have been made today, we were given the official quotation, and FH realised that quote only includes changes of switches and points and not rewiring the whole place. Seek Uncle's expertise and he told us no need to, but we decided against it anyways as this unit is a mature unit and rewiring is much advisable. Expected in Day 4 1) delivery of tiles 2) plastering of walls 3) rewiring I wonder if we are in time for the installation of aircon on Monday?
  6. thanks PinkLady. i am rather worried too.. no choice, only read up abt them after an impulse buy.. going to cross my fingers and toes... hopefully ngt goes wrong when they deliver next month end... quite worried as we went back 2x to alter the size of the custom made sofa...
  7. i totally agree!..ahahah... let me continue the saga:- Uncle Soon continued ranting: Wa AH Soon.. Ah Soon, Le Emp Bak ??? Ah SoooOOOn , Wa Ah Soon... Jason Le Bak Bo, ... Jasonn.. wa ANG MO KIO zo ah ney zui cho liaoz! HDB Officer : Le Zo Jing Zhay Cho mey, an cha wa bo tiah ke??? Uncle Soon proudly continued : Jason ,, Jason le bak Bo??? HDB Officer, in deep thots for split 2-3 secs : Jason , Wa Bak, Jason shi le xiang.. >???! Uncle Soon : WA SHI JASON TWA HEYA! HDB Officer, a T.L tone LE Wo JAson ah Ni Hor Bo?? Uncle Soon: WA SHI JASON TWA HEYA LE! HoR BO?? Confirm HOr La!.... god.... uncle is very very famous liaoz lorx..
  8. i reallly wished i was there to witness it.. but FH called me at that point when both men where at their loudest... so i kinda heard the conversation... was really funny when FH renacted out earlier to me...
  9. Day 2 wow, today was a spectacular day! FH was at the unit around 9ish, waiting for the HDB officer to turn up for inspection. Manz, there was a major commotion when the officer was greeted with a couple of shock! apparantly, someone had knock the toilet floors and walls before the inspection and the officer and demanded to know who was responsible. Alan called uncle immediately and i was told he rushed down instantly.. just as when the officer was inspecting some corner of the motar been hacked off, uncle came in and squat next to him... this was the hokkien translated dialogue :- HDB Officer: *staring at partially hacked motar* Who gave permission to hack? why din you guys wait for me to come before i gave the green light? Uncle Soon(rushing in like whirlwind, squarting NEXT to officer) : motar hacked, will replace one, not to worry. (defiant tone) HDB officer: you who?? (Le SIANG?) Ah Gwui?? Uncle Soon answered blatantly, pointing to himself: Wa Ah Soon... Ah Soon... HDB Officer: Ah Soon xiang?? Ah Gwui le? Uncle Soon: Wa Ah Soon (getting louder) Ah Soon, (even louder), contractor. HDB Officer: Le Erm Si Ah Gwee? Ah Gwee le? Le apply permit har...ask Ah gwee come Uncle Soon getting heated up by now.. " Wa Ah Soon. Le mui bak Ah soon? xin lai eh? " hahhaah.. it really sounded funny when my FB related this scenario to me.. all the heated arguement was because part of toilet floors and walls were hacked before the inspection, and HDB officer wasnt happy.. the two got so heated up that both of them went to the unit below us to check if their pipes are leaking, all the time, FH was a bystander, standing quietly watching the commotion between the two men. the tenant (a boy in his 15teens) were totally shocked when the HDB officier requested him to open the door for inspection.. all the commotion subsided much later, after a thorough check at the unit below us was ok.. (i hope so).. so the demolition team continued the rest of the hacking.. last check at 6.30pm after work, was that the entire flat was hacked except for the panel of walls between the dining and kitchen.. my guess is that it would take an hour or so to hack that wall, after which, its time to clear the debris. uncle said we have to confirm the tiles tomorrow, and they will start the cementing thereafter. so far so good. My neighbours are rather friendly folks, came and chit chat with us, asking how long this renos going to take, and i apologised for the inconvienciences caused during this period. think i should get them some cakes in return. 10. wow! that adds me too! mine's 9th aug! whenz yours?? thus i am really short of time, need the house to be ready by end june, to leave july for my last min preps and buys.. and the wedding preps..
  11. Oh... so you are the one he's fire fighting the other day when i was toking to him, he flew my kite twice on the DONG TU, ahhaha..thatz why i started gettting alittle wee bit paranoid last nite and this morning when he was totally uncontactable over the weekends yep, he totally sprang a fast one, becoz, he told me the other day said he will personally oversee mine, nevermind, i have to take it as it goes, he's supposed to be at my unit tomorrow at 10.30am becos the HDB officer is coming to inspect the unit before giving the green light to hack the rest... i cant be around, will leave micromanagement to my hubbie..
  12. looks like we are the two new kids on the block this week, btw, is your project under Uncle or Alan?? Mine's been transferred to Alan though it wasnt what he promised on thursday. found alan's quotations are much pricer, hmmm... i certaintly hope uncle will still be the major shots caller, he IS after all the FIRST person i contacted..
  13. i've just started my reno today too.. after much ding dongs and delays..waited for uncle till 10.15 to ToNG GONG.. he too, sprang me a surprise and said my unit is done by ALan too, which wasnt what he promised last thursday. haiz, well, we lets have faith... we cross our fingers... and toes... but somehow i felt alan's quote higher than uncle
  14. oh mine... i will learn from all your experiences. either i personally go get the industrial type of plastic sheets and maket them cover up, i, too, am a near perfectionist and will not allow such stains on my white floor neither. i am so sorry to hear all your painful experiences, hope i will not go BERsek too, cant afford to go bersek by July, too near to wedding date, else will get emo breakdown ..
  15. hmm.. he was advising me earlier today when i was confirming the quotation. told us that he kenna lots of complains about the door and the tracks, till he said, he was adv me to take bifold doors, so thats why i would like to check with those using it, any probs so far?
  16. thanks to Ivy, Pink Petter, Family of 4 and Growler for your well wishes! one qn, uncle says the PD door alot of probs, ask me not to use them, anyone else has such problems?
  17. Day One After 3 days of frenzy including this morning, my renovation finally started at 10.15am when uncle finally appeared in his green van. I was getting very worried when he promised to pass me the FINAL adjusted quote on Friday evening, but to no avail. I waited till Sat evening to call him, and got worried when his phone was off. The agony of calling into a mailbox got the better of me on Sunday evening, when i couldnt reach him to confirm the timing for today at 9am (as promised). FH tried to calm me down, to have some faith that he will show up at 9am, sui sui as promised on thursday evening. HOWEVER, Much to my dismay, i couldnt reach him STILL at 9am and we have been waiting at my block since 8.30am!! oh GOD!!! 9.05AM ***RiiiNNGG*... WOW..finally it got thru!!! i really felt like i was calling Class 95 for the CANON camera clicks contest, i was totally DELIGHTED.. told uncle i am waiting since 8.30am and womdering if he REMEMBERED our appointment at 9AM. he told me..."AIYA,, where are you now... AIYA, i can only be there at 11am....." HURHHH??? 11am? I definitely did not apply any half day and thought that it would take probably an hour for the prayer and ding dongs, but looking at how it has been going so far for the morning, i have no choice but to take half day URGENT leave, (gosh cant afford to take too many, need them for honeymoon and the rest of the year.) FH was concerned that i shldnt blow too many leaves and told me not to, but , its my virgin flat, i want to be around for the first day. ok, to story short, uncle finally appeared in his green van at 10.15am, much to my delight . we went through the whole quotation and all and finally, people started streaming in . My project will be handed over to Alan (guy in white), (i hope he is good, must have FAITH), i told uncle i have a very tight dateline and the maximum ding dongs allowed is 35 days for handover, as my wedding is in early Aug, and i need the month of July to clean up and prepare. The final quotation is SGD28k which i blew SGD1.3k on plastering the whole unit. Hubby wasnt too pleased as we needed to cut costs, unfortunately for me, I tend to have very very miniminal tolerance for inconsistencies with the walls as it IS AN OLD flat. Finally, my dear dear relented.. PHEW... (thanks dear, you will NOT regret it!). Alan and Elder Goh and team of demolitions came up respectively at 11am. The latter was responsible in the simple prayer ceremonial and the 2 ah nehs ( elder gohs calls them that! ) dutifully startd the process of dismantling the cupboards. The symbolic knock on the marble floor came about at 11.45am, and the one of the AH neh started DRILLING!!! Before the damage the Aftermath gosh, i was ESCALATED.. finally!! the pieces are FINALLY coming together!!!! i'll post the pics up later, as i do not have a sd card reader available in the office. thanks everyone for your well wishes. i am crossing all my toes and fingers that everything is SUI SUI nowonz uncle left my flat with alan at 11.30 to someone else, and the sky's starting looming, looks like its a heavy downpour in the city area. uncle came up and said he LOST HIS VAN KEYS! oh oh.. now he's stuck at my place..i wonder whoz going to be delayed next... ***btw, i also passed some messages to uncle that he's wanted by everyone, and he says :" so scary, i am being tracked!" ahahahaha.. i said, we are your LIVE GPS, *** 5.30PM FH went back to spot check, and found that no workers were in sight. Whats left is the debris left outside my flat, the main door dismantled, and neighbours could literally see the mayhem from outside, and the LIGHT WAS ON! we diligently off the light to save electricity, i should will remind FH to warn Uncle about this. 9.30PM Popped over after work to check if the debris has been cleared, hmm... much to my dismay, all the debris (whats left from the dismantling) are still outside my unit!! wonder if my neighbours will complain... Only the kitchen floors and partial living room has been hacked today... i'll update my blog tomorrow and hope the walls are down by then..
  18. sorry to steal the blog.. thanks everyone for your well wishes! he finally appeared at 10.15am. told me that the inital time was 9am on thursday nite when i met him, i'll write more on my blog, not nice to blast here
  19. actually, the colors for this race tracks are very nice! i bought him two packs, out of which there were extra cars after we finished our tracks, so FH decided that we can do a off-track or something like F1. steps:- 1) plan the area you like to stick the decals on 2) cut on the decals into pieces (as per instructions) and soft design them on the floor 3) use a 3m tape to transfer the pieces (with the backing on) on the wall, 4) once you have a full pic of the picture, peel off out the backings one at a time 5) sweat it out in the room 6) enjoy your masterpiece personally, i felt its a rathr good bonding session with my son, we can impart them our artistic talents during the sessions or vice versa , my boy felt very proud of his at the end of 3.5 tiring hours. however, just a pointer, i do suggest to let the adults do the sticking instead, so as to minimise the chances of peeling them off for any realignations .
  20. haizz. i am not going to start renov workz today again... was really working forward, but was advised that its better for monday as the hdb officers are coming down to on tues (19th may) for inspection. well, hope we can really start on Mon and not wait till tuesday. My only concern is , i doubt it can be completed by end June with some many projects going on.. wedding's in early aug, and i need july to clean up and buy the rest of the household stuff, plus last min wedding preps. feeling super stress now.. well, i was in some shock when i rec'd the quotation from him last nite, original chinese quote was 21k but it somehow escalated to 31k after he realised a couple of things not in his firzt quote.. you can literally see my eyes growing bigger, finally he rounded off to 29k, which was still 8k from my first agreed quote.. felt that for 3rm hdb is a quite a bit, and the rates for kitchen is rather steep. after discussion with FH overnight, we decided to just settle for one sided capentry for the kitchen and go without some other inclusions. we are still considering if we should combine the mbr toilet and common toilet into one. the bright side is, i have this weekend to go get stuff for kitchen and toilet accessories.
  21. oh no.. i dun hv so much time to take offs.. audit month... super busy.. your place looks great .. dun worry...shouldnt hv any more hiccups..crossing my fingers and toes for mine too.. juz saw the reno permit via hdb online is till 11 JUNE?? hmm.. i wonder if they can complete the full overhual in 20 days?? opps.. i hv yet to purchase the kitchen hobs and all and the toilet stufff... gasping for air in midst of work.
  22. i've added my portion into your spreadsheet. uncle's meeting me later to pass me my quotation (hopefully in ENGLISH).. reno starts tomorrow.. FINNALLY..
  23. gosh..now i pai bak ..make me more "gainz".. duno if its funny if i leave whole hse windows as it is, and only chang the toilet windows...
  24. all the windows in my house including utility rooms the standard hdb style type, the sellers chose the sliding windors type (black ) type, but i am goin to pay 9k for the main upgrade progr, think the invoice coming along end may, so if i can the windows, guess i am kindda throwing my 9k invoice down the drain. haiz..tough call.. sob.. cant paint the windows white thou ... (trying my luck).. the two toilet windows need to be changed thou. so rusty.. or maybe its my imagination..uncle says its fine.. "sin sin le"..ahhaa..think its trying to help me save money.. but if i change the toilet windows to white..heee.. so funny but..nevermind..
  25. audrey, may i know how much does it cost?? i am still toying if i should change the whole set of windows to powder-coated white, but my unit is under the MUP, and their windows have just been changed last year.. uncle say change a bit sayang... but..but.. my white windows...
