  1. I totally understand... its really difficult.. whats your budget like? we did approach other ID firms and they quoted us SKY high like a 45K for a 3 room, hence we decided to use a contractor instead, though we know that project management is rather tedious. Whats your budget btw?
  2. Mrs Piglet Really! Dun you just love the floral laminate!! so chio!! ahah.. i wanted it for MBR wadrobe, but FH said, noo... so floral.. for big cupboards... oh well.. and the Solid Cores are WAAAyyyyyyyy out of our budget.. so EX.. solid core leather laminate S$188 per piece!! gosh... no wonder Ah Soon and Jason says NOoooo last time..ahahah... Did you use their soft closing or u bought the blum runners? no budget.. FH says way out of budget.. so haiz..nevermind, lets hope theirs work fine..
  3. Hi Merry Man, We are about 75% through the reno, with the remaining supposing finishing up this week before HO mid next week. To date, we have kinda expanded our budget by 8k, to about 30k for just reno. Furniture & fittings are yet another sum. We are on the whole, rather happy with the progress, but i think its really case by case basis. You can read around the forum for those under Uncle Soon and those under Mr Yeak, the two famous contractors of the year. good luck!
  4. technically, we are due for all carpentry workz this fri / sat coz HO is supposed to be mid next week or earlier... crossing fingers and toes now.. i dun wan to drag till July and i have to still worry about house plus wedding and the enormous amount of work piling upzz.. getting more greys and lines lately... and putting on weight when i am stress...
  5. think he's name is Ah Liew. FH has been the one liasing with him the past few days..wor.. he cant give full drawings, just simple drawings unlike Jason. It's fine, all i need is Black & white, to save guard against any miscomms. what about urs? hows your new carpenter??
  6. Sketches of our Right side of the Kitchen Sketches of our Left side of the Kitchen - some errors here as they missed out the cupboards above the fridge. Sketches of our shoe cabinet Sketches of MBR wadrobe Sample of my ideal L wadrobe with 5 panels of door
  7. Carpentry Workz After much discussion and my constant changing of mind, we finally selection our laminates for the carpentry workz. we have decided to go for less white gloss laminate in order to see the contrast from our white kitchen walls. We popped over last Thursday morning to the showroom and collected few A4 size sample pieces to have a better look. To keep to our White concept, we have selected the following:- LAMITAK - HIGH GLOSS WHITE FOR KITCHEN & MBR WADRODE A4 SIZE SAMPLE OF HIGH GLOSS WHITE LAMITAK - LEATHER FLORA WHITE LAMINATE FOR SHOE CABINET A4 SIZE SAMPLE OF LEATHER LAMINATE Current issue is that FH accidentally ommited the inclusion of the cabinets on top of the fridge, which i wanted to create a full flush effect starting from the Fridge, followed by the full height storage next to it and lastly the washing machine should be blocked from the living room view. Carpenter says its not included in our discussion and would want to delay installation for this section. But who installs partially??? I've leave it to Alan to fix the problem.. before i jump the gun. Hopefully ALL carpentry installation will be as per our schedule on Friday / Saturday... ..
  8. wowww!! we are similar.. except National Day's my birthday as well! so ahhah.. i lagi more lugi..hahahah.. we are holding it near the fireworks place.. can see it directly!!

  13. thanks everyone! i'm actually waiting for the first clean up this week before they do the carpentry and after the lights have been installed to take the before and after photos, give 2 days
  14. Updates for Weekends Basically, i am very happy with the progress and the quality of the works done so far. I must say we can thank our lucky stars that apart from minor hiccups here and there, everything's running swee swee! thanks Alan! Initially i was apprehensive about Uncle handling over the job to him, and it took me a little while to get accustom to a different style, but, i must say, he is rather meticulous and on the ball when i comes to little tiny winy requests here and there, my constant changing of ideas, (which even my FH have to tolerate), because i am a near perfectionist (if possible) the flat is almost 70% completed, and you can literally see our beams getting wider and wider each progress. I am crossing my fingers and toes that HO date is as per his promise mid next week, with all the fittings and carpentry done this week and a big clean up. So far, faith has been growing strong, and i guess we are very blessed indeed. we have exactly another 55 days before our Big Day so i am counting that we can really move in by first or latest 2nd week of July after the big clean. Furniture's coming in next week and the other electrical stuff in the month end, as per our schedule. Amen! we also had a very pleasant encounter with this group of malay painters. I must say they are very meticulous and professional about their work. The head of this group (din get his name) was very accomodating and supervised his workers well, no cutting corners and all. the walls are really smooth now with a nice glow of paint!!! i'll post pictures soon! very minor touchs required only, eps the main gate due to the cuttings from the metal chain and the 2 foot prints imprinted on the bay window only, the rest is really ding gua gua! the group of 5 painters finished up the flat within a day!! The L-Box, false ceilings and cornices were up last Friday, yet an excellant job too!!! i'll post it up once the lights are up this wednesday!! So whats' left :- 1) Lightings to be installed 2) Choosing of solid top for kitchen & PD doors 3) Installation of the full glass divider between living & dinning 4) installation of the full height tinted mirror at dining area 5) installation of carpentry works; shoe cabinets, wadrobe & kitchen 6) installation of bathroom works and accessories 6) acid wash and cleaning up!!! Stay Tune!
  15. Hi Supersimon27, can you check with my floor plan and see if the config is about the same? Btw, which side is sliding for you and which side is bi-fold? We need to let the guy know today. thanks.
  16. HHhaah..i duno the carpenter's name, some new guy, i'm not the one liasing with him , i check with FH dan revert back to all. Oh..reason is because, the short L is only about 1m for the doors, which is approximately 50cm for the 2 panels and the long L has 3 panels of doors. 50cm of sliding door looks weird and small.. erm.. that wat he said. (see my floor plan) So sad le... i was hoping to get a different wadrobe for the conventional one i have for my life Alan has been a great help so far and we are happy and comfortable with him , 2 thumbs upzzz!
  17. Hi everyone! paiseh for M.I.A ing ! so busy with work, my FH had to supervise the reno instead. Quick updates:- the plastering for the whole house is done! now it looks nice and WHITE! the aluminium pipes for the whole house is up too. the house is more or less cleaned up for the next phrase. Electrical works stated today, and we got a shock..hahah.. we din know we have to buy the T5 lights and all, thot Uncle will get for us..haahah.. so now we have to get them, wherez the cheapest place? we need altogether about 15 lites, and 13 cove lights. We are also in the process of choosing laminates for the kitchen. still stuck between the Lamitak Chalk or White? Any ideas? We are getting the shoe rack spray painted in High Gloss White to match our TV console we bought earlier. We will be doing an L shaped wadrobe in place of the store room, the carpenter said we cant do sliding doors for L shaped wadrobes??? Really??? So sad..i always wanted the sliding types, Choc Oregon Teak lamintes for the skelton and tempered glass panels for the doors... but carpenter say cant as not nice looking?????? help!! Painting should also be in the pipeline this week or early next week, i am still considering if i should keep the walls ALL White and leave the furniture blacks? Or... Whats in store this week:- 1) Electrical Works 2) False ceiling 3) Gas pipes installation 4) Painting??? Whats in store next week 1) Carpentry for the kitchen cabinets 2) Installation of the kitchen hob and hob 3) Installation of the toilet accessories 4) Installation of the shoe cabinet 5) Acid wash & general cleaning up. Wow, i seen the nice Samsung Digital Lock by Trench! gosh, doubt we have the budget for it liaoz.. as we have kind exceeded 30k!!! can only DROOOLLLL
  18. Audrey, oh man! i can image your fury! liquid paper to cover up joint lines?????? erm, abit unprofessional i muz say lorx! which type laminte code you using for your kitchen again? you may need to reflect to uncle abit it, coz its definitely below the mark of carpentry workz. i would have screw the person up down left right... Yes, ABS trimmings are the edges for any carpentry workz.. there are different types, some companies have invested in better trimmings to match the tones of the laminates, some not. hence, its important to get a stack of the trimmings when you select whatever laminates, you can pop down to their showrooms, get the samples from them, different company diff policys, some charge minimal charge, some give you free. Laminates are what you see as the exterior, good laminates produce a classical look, when color matched properly. some laminates are thinner, and will produce waviness, (also depends on the KANG HU "skill" of the carpenter).
  19. ooooh oooh... we were told by Alan to depend on ourselves for the design of the capentry works as he is on Leave? ohoh.. hahah.. now i have to re-browse through all the magazines again. We were also assigned the new carpenter, duno his name thou, but he said he cant design. i am still in the midst of considering if i should keep the homog skirting they did wrongly, or hack it out and replace with the dark wood skirting, haiz, any help? we just bought a 42" LG plasma tv with the Transformers' promo package, though our initial considerations were only Samsung LCDs. First time using Plasma, hope they are good. We also met up with the laminate flooring supplier yesterday during lunch, and she showed us a couple of brands, ACE flooring, Deko (or something), ... need to find a color that matches both the MBR brown leather bedframe and the children's rooms White/Green kiddy bedframe... lost,... Plastering works should start today, hopefully, electrical as well, cant wait for them to plaster away the obiang GREEN/BLUE wall.
  20. Stormcontrol, in layman's term, when we join two pieces of normal laminates together, you will see the groove lines (joints), because, basically, laminates are made of a thin piece of veneer (wood skin) on top and ply wood below (the dark brown wood). So when you join two pieces of laminates together, you will see the dark /black joint lines. The sides of these are taken care of by AB trimmings, but those on the surface will be visible. The solid core ones, using, the SAME type or color as the top piece of veneer, will see NO joint lines. Hence you get the seamless effect. Just image our floor tiles, we have grout lines to cover up. Hope it helps.
  21. Ivy sorry to hijack too. I had some working experience with laminates, tell you guys, the solid core ones, irrespective of whether Seng Lee or Lamitak , they're really AWESOME! We quoted projects using that and i have see the actual works, gosh... they are sOOO beautiful, practically cant see any joints! but of course you have to PAy the price for vanity i am also still considering
  22. Kitchen Base on the Right - for the Suspended cabinets Fridge & Washer Base on the Left Thankfully, Aircon guy came and ractify the main living room unit today and managed to solve the problem despite some hiccups and delays in the morning. HDB officer also came today and served us a horror decree, our Extension of walls in the living & MBR toilet failed!! OMG, looks like that was some miscommunication going on and we may need to grind portion of the wall back to 60mm thick, which i guess will take some more time! its already the start of June, and i am beginning to wonder if we will be on time for the HO. Uncle Soon managed to pacifiy us and said that he will settle it tomorrow. Phews.... Plastering, electrical will start on Wednesday instead. We were also given the book of LAMITAK laminates for the carpentry! I have been dreaming of selecting the laminates for a while and i simply cant wait to start our masterpiece After some initial decisions, to streamline the White & Black theme we have in mind, we will settle more or less for either 1) High Gloss Chalk or High Gloss White for both the shoe cabinet and kitchen cabinets !! I am also definitely eying on the Nude Core Glossie (solid core laminates) but dunno if we are allowed to choose it as they are pricy!! Solid Core Laminates are good as you will get premium finishes that shows NO JOINT lines, the seamless type i love! Some pointers for all, it is perfectly ok for you to take a trip down to LAmiTak at Sungei Kadut and ask them for Bigger samples, because, likewise like floor tiles, visualising from a book of laminates is not the same as getting a Big piece of sample from them. For WIW, i am eying on the Nappa Blanco (leather type) laminate or the pricier Nude Core Leather!! ahhhaa.. wonder if Alan or Uncle Soon will flip. The leather laminate became a hit 2 years back, and i still find them rather classy. Alan also brought two electrical guys to discuss the electrical works as well as another carpentry guy, who basically came and take measurements. He could not provide any designs on the spot thou, and has to go back to Jason. Wonder when we will get to meet the legenary Jason too.??? Alan mentions that its rather difficult to fix appointment with Jason as he is really tied up. Oh oh, now wat... 2nd June is rest day, nothing will be done tomorrow, which means we can take a breather, i am hoping we can finish our plastering & electrical works by this week and leave carpentry, and L Box for next week, and painting and fixing of finishes for the 3rd week of June, crossing by fingers and toes it can be completed and HO on 20th June. nitex everyone!
  23. 1st of June Firstly, thanks everyone for your condolences, we really appreciate it. Ok...Its been 12 days since we started our massive project..now here's wat we have to update so far Firstly, most of the tiling works have been completed, the tilers have even done up our skirting!! unfortunately, what we had & conveyed to Uncle Soon was the wooden skirting, but the tilers have completed 80% of the skirting in the living room with the same homogenous tiles! I must say i am nwillingly to get them to hack it out as it delay time yet again, and it doesnt look that bad too... so i have decided to makedo with the errors, thou i must say its REALLY FAT! Also, our unit was also partially covered up with the corrugated paper as promised. Mini New Stairs! Fat Skirting Coverups! Inquistive Boy who kept asking tiler questions!
