Have PMed you Ah Soon's contact. His workmanship is not too bad, including his carpentry. Depending on what you mean by design. If you have some ideas what you want, it is okay to use him for your reno. -
Consolidating pricing: 3M-$14 psfr Sun-X - $4.50 psft Anybody else have pricing information about other brand of solar film?

Agreed. Flooring is for the long term. Get the best quality that you can afford and you won't regret it.

Yes, I am relocating the toilet door, so HDB approval is required.

That's confusing: if you are the BEST designer in town, you won't need Zann to do the ID for you? -
Today ID called to say that hacking for kitchen and two bathrooms will be complete by today. Now waiting for HDB approval to change the common bathroom door.

Wow what grade of Pergo are you using? My 3 rooms using Supreme AC5 is only about $2.2.

Don't ask for discount. Tell them what is discount you want (which is the cost you need to fix the problem + inconvenience).

Can't tell for sure how much your contractor is going to charge you, but just sharing my experience: (from my quotation) To hack and demolish new door way ..... $80 To supply and seal up existing entrance .... with 63mm hollow block $300 Price will differ depending on size of doorway, etc. If that is the only thing you are doing then there will be haulage charges too.

You must provide more details before the fellow forummers can help you. They will need information such as (1) What kind of house do you have? condo, 5rm, 4rm, 3rm etc (2) Dimension of the carpentry - how long is your wardrobe, TV console, shoerack, etc (3) How big is the area for homo tiling? Popular contractors on this forum are Ah Soon, Mr Yeak, Patrick (in no particular orders)

Are you in a hurry to move in to your new place? Chinese New Year falls on 14 Feb 2010 so you will have to work backwards. Before CNY it is a peak period because many people wants to move in their new house before CNY. Moreoever, many Malaysian workers (tilers especially) will want to go home for a long break. If you can wait, you might want to avoid the peak period (worry people rushing so don't do a good job for you) and start your reno in Feb. In this way you can start seriously looking for an ID / contractor when you and your husband are both back in Jan 2010. If not, look for an ID / contractor who is reliable and can do the job without you around (personally I have found a few of them). You can just leave the reno to them and pop by occasionally when you or your husband is back in Singapore. But in any case, you should start looking around now and not wait till end of the year. Like what I posted earlier, you want to work with somebody who can stay with you for the long run and not those who are only interested in fast money. So if somebody is not interested in your business because it is so far away, move on and look for someone else. There are enough IDs / contractors in Singapore who will want your business. I can't comment if 20K is sufficient to do up the entire 3NG. But I have come across many IDs / contractors who can work with you on your budget - for example, not enough money can reuse some of the existing stuff, or use cheaper material (for example, use wood or plastic instead of glass). I am sure if you look hard enough you will find somebody you are comfortable with who can do the job. Having said that, it is more important for you to start your search earlier so as to find THE ID / contractor that you need for your reno.

New Condo

I suggest you get a couple of quotations from IDs and contractors. Get a few, at least 5 or 6, so that you will have a feel of the pricing (some will quote extremely high, some extremely low). You can also find the delta you have to pay between IDs and contractors to decide if it is worthwhile going with an ID / contractor. You can find out some of the popular IDs / contractors by browsing through this forum. Hope that help. -

Ai, nobody want to share Ah Soon's contact with you? I have PM you his phone number (credit goes to guy77 - I got Ah Soon's number from him). Ah Soon Chinese speaking only - can use Hokkien or Mandarin, Cantonese not sure. Disclaimer: I didn't use Ah Soon for my renovation. -
Hi forkie, Indeed the hacking work started just yesterday (Thursday). Didn't have a chance to go down to take a look yet. May do so later today if I can find sometime (new house new my working place). You make the right choice lah. Supreme wasn't as good as I initially thought. 1) When you are buying from them, they promised you many colours. During the actual selection, the guy only brought 10+ samples for you to choose, saying those are their new colours (how come I cannot like old colours meh?) Then out of those 10+ colours, some no stock, some got problem with supplier, some not nice so you are left with perhaps just 6 to 8 to choose from. I also visited the Pergo booth at Expo and the outlet at Anchor Point, I think the selection at Pergo is a lot more compared with Supreme. 2) Then the price, told us $3.80 we can't get anywhere else. But many of the IDs said they can give us the same price leh. Moreover, when we changed our mind and not lay laminate over balcony, living and dining, the price suddenly shot to $4.00. His explanation, need 5% wastage - which translated to 5% gained in price!? Why is wastage not calculated into the price initially? My rooms are square so wastage should not be so much right? Maybe Supreme's quality is good, but so is Pergo and many other brands. Moving forward, I won't recommend Supreme to anybody from now on!

Company name is Fu Hua. -
I think you should not pay the balance until all problems are rectified.

Thanks stormcontrol for reminding me. The existing house owner also has something like a speed bump, that sort of make the gap more gradual. I will call the ID tomorrow to ask him to build one that is similar.
