Hi Forkie, It has been sometime since you last updated the blog. How is your reno progressing?
-
Same layout? That's interesting. One of the IDs bought me to this house at Sin Ming that has the exact layout. We benefited a lot from that visit as we had a chance to look at how other people renovated their house, taking notes of all the beams, pipes and other limitations. Remember to post your pictures when your reno start. BTW, Forkie also started his renovation about the same time as mine, but he is quite fast - I believe his tiling has already completed. For my case, the tiler is quite slow - finishing only half the two toilet walls over 3 days - but his workmanship is good so I just let me take his time.

This hole is going to be covered with our built-in wardrobe in the masterbedroom. But the ID is going to put a clear glass on it instead of sealing it up with plywood. In this way, we could still watch the fireworks by peeping into the wardrobe. Kinda of akward but at least could still watch the fireworks from home. The other alternative is to make friends with my neighbours. Half the flat on my block could view the fireworks at their balcony.

Due to some reasons the previous owner only patched their wall AFTER they have done their cabling. As a result, we now need to spend an additional $850 - $900 patching the whole house to remove the ugly trenches.

The Bangalah is not as skillful as the Malaysian tiler. He almost break my entire toilet wall!
-
View from the air-con outlet at master bedroom. From here we could see the fireworks on National Day!

The drainage for the kitchen basin. Poor guy, we need to shift this one foot to the left and extend 10 cm to the right to make way for a longer kitchen cabinet.
-
Common bathroom's wall tiles are also half-done. We can see that the master tiler is very skillful. He has laid all the big tiles leaving the space for the mosaic. If his measurement is not accurate, the mosaic will not fit properly and that will mean he needs to hack and relay everything.

The master tiler was laying the kitchen floor tiles when we arrived in the morning just before 11am.
-
Master bedroom toilet wall - half done. Our MBR toilet will be black and white tiles with square mosaics in between [separating the black and white tiles]. The mosaics are not there yet so the wall looks a little funny now.
-
Went up to the flat to meet the ID to discuss on how we could lengthen the kitchen cabinet a little bit. Took some pictures which follow.

Just sharing my experience - steel backing can also be stained. Look at mine: For my new house, I am going with glass....

I think that is a very safe choice. You may also consider: sky beige, cotton white, rose white or lily white. -
Meeting the ID later at 11am to check the progress and also to make second payment for 40%. Wife and I both lazy so we leave everything to the ID. So far only went down to the house - but that's requested by the ID to confirm the tiling work.
