Gas pipe in kitchen. This is causing us (including ID and carpenter) big headache. Got to move the cabinet out 2 inches to accommodate it.

A closer look at Iris White - looks more blue, right? The place where the cable is hanging is where we are going to have lights. My two kids and myself will have individual study lights.
-
Every time I am there I can't help not taking some pictures of the breath-taking view. Here's how it looked like on Tuesday - a little hazy - from Bedroom 2.
-
Bedroom 2 aka Study Room. This room is painted Iris White (looks like blue) for FengShui. Both my two kids and myself have water element, and the blue (including ceiling) will make them do better in school.
-
One side of the wall is painted Lilac White - this is where the feature wall is going to sit.
-
The living area - at the time I was taking the picture, there was this guy here cleaning the house. By the time I am done, the place is free of debris. The colour of the wall is Nippon 5000 Creamy White.

I find the switches very ugly. Fortunately ID has agreed to change them to the big ones, at no cost, of course :-).

After the wet work, suddenly the progress of our reno gets on really quickly. We just chose the colours of the paint on Sunday and when we dropped by on Tuesday, most of the painting has completed (except for kitchen, yet to decide on solid top / granite). And today (Thursday) Supreme will install the laminate for the three bedrooms. Here's a picture of the master bedroom. The small window on the left will allow us to watch fireworks on National Day.

Another view of the common toilet - with the gray homogeneous tiles.
-
Common toilet is basically using green and white tiles, with mosaic separating the two. The shower screen, shower head, instant water heat and other toilet accessories will only be installed next Friday (24 Jul 2009) because the goods will only be delivered on 23 Jul 2009.

I received a number of PM asking me for the ID's contact. I have not replied due to a few reasons: - I am sharing the renovation experience, not promoting my ID - The work has not completed yet. Until everything is done then we could conclude if he has done a good/bad job - He only takes on three projects at one go. Currently he already has three projects on hand and will not be taking any additional work. I look forward to your understanding on this matter. There are many ID/contractors here that are well recommended that you could contact.

I just bought $1000+ worth of lights from Strass at Balestier Road yesterday. Not sure about other's experience, but I got the best offer at Strass compared with the other shops around Balestier for my choice of lights.

Baroque's workmanship is good. There should be little problem going with them. -
Hi would love to.... Unfortunately have not started using it yet because reno at new house not ready yet. We are looking to shift in first/second week of August. Washer will only be delivered when the house is ready.

For me, the first meeting with ID/contractor is to run through my requirement: tell him what you want in the living, kitchen, toilet, etc etc. Then get him to give you a quotation for consideration. Standard questions would be: got GST? how long it takes to complete (especially Ah Soon)? got HDB license? what max price for tiles? what brand of laminate? ho many colours can you pick for painting? got use sealer before painting? cabinet what material? Basically any questions you have you may just ask it. No questions is stupid. Main objective here is to gauge the comfort level you have with the ID/contractor. Price can negotiate later.

I got mine from my contractor - $2,800 include bracket but not sure what kind of material.

We bought the Mitsubishi Starmexx System 3 for $2,800 from my contractor. Please don't call it Jack Neo's because we don't like his face :-( Like the Starmexx because we can do some of the cleaning ourselves. Have been using Carrier for the past ten years. Service was good until Carrier was bought over by Toshiba. Now the maintenance guy just come and vacuum the internal units. Refuse to clean the external unit, also refuse to swap units for me (we only turn on aircon at master bedroom, the rest are unused). Feel their standard drop so I have not renewed the contract (second time in 10 years). The sales guy are all pushing Toshiba. Japan made or not is not so important. When they are paid more commission on another brand/model, they will tell you other reasons.

Renovation Payment Advise
sohck replied to Triple 7's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Important thing is that you are comfortable with your ID/contractor then you will feel comfortable letting him have the money. Most important is that you should hold a sum of money (eg 10%) until you are satisfied with everything, but not two weeks after renovation. What if you are not happy with the rectification even after two weeks? -
Hi PiggyBear, Convert the utility room into a store room lah. It is very useful for a smaller unit as you can squeeze everything you want out-of-sight into it. That way, your unit will not look so cluttered.
-
Yes, but difficult to take photo because it is too small. Will bring the other camera to take pictures the next time I am there.

Welcome vinmiche. Hope you have a good time here.
