Xherion, Just wanted to check with you, for your living area, did you paint it in an orange/yellow-ish tone, or is the yellowish hue due to the use of warm white lighting? I'm toying with either using white or a beige tone for the living area and was wondering if the effect would be similar to that of yours. Thanks.

BTW, wanted to seek the advice of those who've already had their carpentry done up. Which brand of laminates would you recommend for glossy laminates and also matt 'wood'-type laminates? I have EDL, Jennings and Lamitak for consideration and hence would like to seek feedback on these brands.

Hmmm .. that's another area that I haven't really thought about. I guess we may put up pictures/posters/photos/paintings there and my children will probably play around there too. Thanks for the suggestion!

Heya Beany, As New mentioned, gypsum board is a probably a quick, easy and neat way to do up a wall at a cheaper cost as compared to a full hollow-block. I had initially chosen a hollow-block wall, but Yeak suggested the gypsum board so that way I can save abit and still achieve a constructed 'wall' of sorts. For this case, its only to carve out space for a Store and I won't be mounting anything on it so I'm OK with it. The other side of the partition is for a slot of cabinets.

You know, I have half a mind to do that, pay to hack and re-do just that portion. But don't know if it'll affect my timeline or not leh. Ahahaha ... yup, at most I use chrome ribbon. Actually now I realised that I didn't really give much thought on how to do the Common Bathroom. Originally, I thought anyhow do never mind cos' Common Bath mah, but now with the tiles up, I realised it has to somehow still fit into the look. Haiz, cracking my head how to do the basin side - Dunno if should do a basin cabinet or how ...

PIPING AND WIRING WORKS UPDATE - 25 AUG Gas piping has been laid out and the electricians have started work on the wiring for the lighting points in the Living area. Now we have some 'vines' of wires dropping down from the ceiling. Despite our best efforts to minimise any trunking for the whole house, unfortunately, there will be one short line of trunking closer to the TV wall, due to the shift of the SCV and power points.

Heya Pal. Thanks. Looks like a good mess! Ahahahaha. For most of the works, so far so good (Fingers crossed). Only thing I wish I could've done was the metal strip thing you suggested lah. But I guess I'll have to hack the common toilet and re-tile again.

Actually hor, the more annoying zero-productivity meetings are those that are called by people just so that they can make themselves feel important. Sibeh sian. Aiya, I think BD will probably be the only 'life' of the meeting.

Hi All, Just to share, although I did not engage them, United Team Lifestyle was the top of our shortlist for IDs. Upon recommendation by a fellow forummer (from both this forum and another car forum), I approached Lawrence from United Team. At the first meeting, we thought that he looked a little 'fierce', but as we spoke to him and shared with him, he was very warm, accomodating and friendly and also listened very attentively to our needs and wants. From our interaction with him over 2 meetings, he gave us this impression that he is meticulous, looks at things in detail, and tries to understand our individual preferences and work out a practical solution and offers good ideas and suggestions to make a simple home much nicer while minimising additional costs. Looking at their portfolio of work, the quality and standard is also there. Price-wise, among all the IDs, he's not exactly the cheapest, but yet the price (based on ID standards/benchmarks and excluding contractors) is pretty competitive and reasonable. If not for budget considerations, I'd definitely have signed up with him.

PJ, I think adding power points after reno is not a problem. So long as you're not fussy about seeing trunking around the house.

Yeah, I'm one of the fans of the Ivy-BD-Storm Drama on RT! Hope all's fine with your new job. You meant 'useless' meetings right? Ahahaha... I couldn't agree more man. Sometimes meetings are just senseless waste of time. Talk so much in the end also nothing move. Haiz ..... so much for productivity!

I haven't met the older brother as yet. The one we met on Saturday was the younger one. I think he also look like an old HK Actor - Like Chow Yuen Fatt's bodyguard in the first 'Dou San (Du Shen)' movie. So far, the good thing is that Yeak and his brother always gives good, practical suggestions and solutions. And they're always very patient in explaining and suggesting to my wife a nicer kitchen layout and how and where to put which drawer or what other items. I stay clear and just observe because its her 'territory'. We'll be having another 'long' meeting again this Saturday to discuss the other carpentry works.

Discoburg. Congrats on a really nice place. The layout looks really unique and really suited to transform bedroom 2 into a WIW and even an open concept kitchen.

Hi Tulips, Your place is very nicely done up. The effect from the tiles and mirror at the toilet looks great. The red doors are very unique and outstanding too. Red sure bring good luck! Nice touch with the full glass sliding wardrobe too. Agree with KTHC on the cemented bowls. If your washing machine very powerful, it may cause the bowl to crack although the concrete will probably survive. Think those building material shops can find some nice looking bricks to put for your base.

PARTITION AND PARQUET WORKS UPDATE - 24 AUG Was on half-day yesterday so popped by to take a look at the ongoing works in progress. Partition wall for the storeroom is in the midst of being constructed. Once up, the wall will flush nicely and kinda 'hide' the corridor leading into the rooms. The corridor leading to the rooms is now slightly longer and more hidden. Raw Parquet has been laid in all the bedrooms. Will have to let it rest for about 10 to 14 days for the glue to dry. View of MBR and adjoining room.

BD is back after a long time! Somehow the forum seemed much more quiet without the antics of BD, Ivy and Storm! How's things BD? Been very busy ar?
-
KTHC, your place looks very nicely done up. Love the TV console and organised Kitchen with blue glass backing. Yes, agreed the planning and design for the kitchen is really the most headache part - On Saturday, we spent 3hours plus discussing about the kitchen design and cupboard/drawer layout with Mr Yeak and his brother.

Ah, that's cool! Mine's a very mini mini-schnauzer. 5 yrs old but she's still the size of a puppy. There's alot of dogs at our neighbourhood. Couple of schnauzers, lotsa JRTs and a couple of Golden Retrievers too!

Ahahaha ... Nah, not stalking you or anything! Cos' that day I happened to pass by near your block when I walking the dog, and I passed 2 couples who were talking about their house reno. So was wondering if that was you lah.

TILING UPDATE 3 Tiling for the Living area, Kitchen and Balcony was pretty much completed on Friday. The base for the Kitchen and Serivce Balcony cabinets have also been erected. Debris from the tiling has also been cleared. Next up will be the parquet flooring for the 4 bedrooms, which starts today. The electrical and wiring work, water and gas piping works and false ceiling works will also go on for this week. Kitchen and Service Balcony Wall Tiles and Cabinet Base Completed. The pipes are supposed to be boxed up with gypsum partition boards and painted over. But now, was thinking, perhaps I should have it tiled as well so the look is more consistent? Balcony walls and floor tiled up. Used the same tiles as the kitchen to retain that consistency in looks. Due to ongoing works, all the Living area floor tiles are covered. Hence, so far I haven't got a chance to see the tiled Living are as a whole. This is a small section at the sides of the Living area that shows some of the grain patterns of the tiles. Parquet materials have arrived.

Heya Skymars. Congrats on choosing your ID and starting your reno. How's the final layout like now? Still sticking to the one you originally posted earlier? Looks like our reno will be completed around the same time. Do post pics of updates.

Hi Trevor, Welcome to another Cantona fan! Nice to see you managed to find a nice 70's TPY unit. Somehow those layouts are really unique and rare. The floor plan also 70's cos' its still using imperial measurement of inches and feet! Which lorong is your flat located at? The picture of the toilet really brought back memories of my weekends at my parents' place at Lorong 6 TPY!

Heya Beany, Yup. All the new windows are up. For my place there is a funny smell too, which I guess is attributed to the open sewage drainage hole for the WCs. If the workers are using the hole for their business, there will surely be a lingering smell as there isn't any water to flush or wash it away. I'm sure all will be OK once its done up. BTW, just curious, do you drive a black OPC hatchback?
-
Heya New! Glad to see you online. The suggestions are really great. Unfortunately, they've already tiled up most of the walls last week so don't think can get them to put those in, unless of course I hack the walls again. Ahahaha! Maybe if can stick over then ... hmm...
-
Yup. White sure brightens up the kitchen, which is kinda dark in the day due to the absence of a strong natural light. The divider does separate Dry and Wet portions I suppose. Behind it we're actually putting a wash area at one spot nearer to the window, while the rest will be for the washing machine and tall cabinet. Thanks PJ. Will post pictures when I can. Thing is, with alot of stuff around, sometimes its hard to get good angles to snap though. Tiling looks OK so far. I'm glad they did those curved angles at the edges of the walls.
