  1. Exact sentiments.. That's what I wanted to ask you.. The practicality of putting a light there.. I had wanted to propose putting a light there but after much thinking, I realised that I won't be turning the light on most of the time.. Maybe I will in the first few days after moving in, maybe I will when I do house warming, maybe I will when it's chinese new year or some big occasions where there are guests.. But in fact, most of the time I wont be.. Hahaha.. Unless I have the pockets deep enough to leave the lights on 24/7 (electricity, parts costs).. Moreover I still have to invest on the lights, an additonal switch point and installation for the light.. Hahaha.. That's at least $50.. So well, aubrey, I think if I should use this design, I wont be needing any lights.. Hahaha, he actually showed me and my wife a picture of a console, then says this one very special.. Hacked the wall down and the tv console is part of the wall or something lidat.. Immediately I told my wife, that's the gurl I MSNed la.. I asked Joseph whether it's a lady's house, 3 room flat in Bugis area and he said yes.. So I knew the pic was ur console.. Hahaha.. Maybe he was there when you weren't around? I suppose you don't stay around for the whole day ritey? Anyways, uh, he's taller den Uncle I think.. I've never seen Jason in person before.. saw the pics though.. Hahaha.. Urm, to think of it.. I really never notice whether he has any missing teeth.. Hahaha.. Maybe I should go check it out when I see him the next time.. Hahaha..
  2. Urm, maybe it can't.. Hahaha.. I dunno for sure.. Hmm, maybe I recalled wrongly.. I didnt really pay attention since I'm not gonna get an amp.. He did ask me if I'd be getting an amp though.. Dun jealous la.. I want to see ur house, when u open house again? Hahaha.. I actually saw ur feature wall in Joseph's Hp.. Looks good mah.. I know for sure I'd be placing feature decor there, just dunno wat kind.. Hahaha.. And yeah, I did thought about lights, but additional things means additonal money.. Hahaha Anyways, ocheeeng, does the empty part between the top and bottom storage have any lights?
  3. Oh, ok, it's square rooms which I saw the picture from.. All black.. Hehehe.. I have that issue too.. I tore all the pictures I fancy out, and I cant recall which magazine or book I tore it from.. Hahaha.. Ur console is not bad too mah.. But I prefer all black la, exactly like the one in the picture.. Too bad I can only use wallpaper for the tv backing side.. So no silver lines on it.. :/
  4. Urm, actually for the console I drew, the storage space on the left of it are not for the gadgets, more for newspapers, cds, blah blah and display in the middle.. I will actually place more stuffs on the console part.. The first drawing has a console of 8 ft, whereas in my drawing, it is around 7ft..(Not to proportions.. Abit disproportionate, but can get the idea ok liao.. Hahaha..) So, I think there's more than enough space.. I only have a HTS and Starhub box, no amplifiers or funny stuffs, so should be ok.. Actually I remember Ah wei says the console can fit an amp bah..
  5. Here are some almost finalised drawings from Ah Wei to share.. (Left) MBR Built In Wardrobe - He forgotten to draw the mirror on the side and he enlarged the drawer size which we first agreed upon.. (Right) Vanity Cabinet - I guess very normal, most of you should be gettin this if u're doing vanity.. Mirror with lights behind it.. Light will shine from the top and bottom of the mirror.. (Left) Partition at Front of Door - This will be the partition that greets any visitors at the door.. (Right) TV Feature Wall & Console - This is actually my 2nd choice for tv feature wall.. Simple and clean look.. I actually wanted something like this (I drew it myself in 2-3 minutes, paiseh ah if it's tough on ur eyes.. Hwahahaha..) My original idea was for the whole thing to be in wood + laminate.. Total length will be probably 8-9 ft.. But den Joseph and Ah Wei told me for this, I will have to top up aroudn $800 for it, because my quote only covers parition wall with wallpaper for feature wall and suspended console.. I saw this feature wall picture actually from a book I got from Chew Interior.. I vaguely remember someone else has a feature wall like this.. Is it Ocheeeng? Anyways, I modified the idea abit, so now I will only shorten the console and partition wall for the wallpaper by 1 to 1.5 feet, and will add in this tall shelving unit on the left of it.. I'm still waiting for Joseph to advise me how much it'll cost.. Hopefully not anything more den $200 more den what I was originally quoted.. I guess the pic is self explanatory.. I called Goodrich to check, they have black single toned wallpaper, I guess I can use that rather than laminates.. Crossing my fingers that it'll not cross my targetted amount.. VO already $2k + liao.. My kitchen layout.. We brainstormed for a while with Ah Wei before deciding finally on this.. I had actually thought of this, but wasnt sure if we can pull it off, Ah Wei assured me that it will be ok.. With his assurances, we are good to go! My original unit on the right of my kitchen doesn't have alot of space, so the only thing I can do is to put up another suspended bottom cabinet and top cabinet set (4 + 4 ft only) on the opposite of the main unit.. Shoe Cabinet - Here's the simple shoe cabinet which will be below the window at my dining area.. Uncle threw in the glass for the top and the cushion with a storage drawer beneath it FOC.. The small shelving unit near the cushion seat was proposed by Ah Wei and we were both impressed.. Here's the layout with the proposed carpentry.. Not alot la, no money liao.. Hahahaha.. Layout for carpentry Any feedback or comments will be appreciated be it negative or positive.. Thanks!
  6. Agreed.. Right, proactive is the word as well.. Wow, dunno what uncle is so bz with that even projects he had started on are passed on to Joseph.. Now I'm worried Joseph will be overloaded.. First sign is he missed one meeting we're supposed to have on Monday.. But he did call to inform that he was bz though.. I'm sure whoever Uncle leaves your reno to will be up to it.. Don't worry.. Good luck aite?
  7. Yo guy77.. I think yours will be faster den mine.. I havent confirmed my carpentry yet.. I'm crossing my fingers that it will finish within 3 weeks from now.. _________________________________________________________________________ Anyways, remember the grey feature tiles I chose for the MBR toilet which was the same as what you'd chosen? I went for it and laid my whole shower area with that rough feature tiles - $5.50 psf, not cheap, it costs me an additional $300.. Joseph says can't help me to reduce, cuz this is what was charged by Sin Lek.. I'm adding quite a bit of works not initiall discussed, hope I can negotiate a better price.. The only bad thing about working with Joseph is that he can only give you rough estimates for any additional costs.. He said he will speak to Uncle Soon, but then, like for eg., changing of solid surface to granite, Ah Soon told me add in $20 pfr.. I asked Joseph, he says he dunno still this rate or not, gotta ask Uncle, havent get back to me yet.. I asked for quite some time already.. So, when it comes to costs and pricing, I hope I can ask Uncle instead.. But what baffles me is, I tried meeting uncle last Monday at 2000hrs to discuss about the total variation order to date.. He agreed to meet me, I called him as usual at about 1800hrs to remind him, he then told me he was busy and can't make it and asked me to deal with Joseph instead and Joseph will revert back to him.. I know Uncle is busy, but I really don't like this passing around message thing going on.. Why don't we settle it face to face rather then let Joseph be some sort of the middle man? And yeah, I've not seen Ah Soon at my place yet.. He has never arranged to meet me either.. One of the reasons I chose Ah Soon even after he told me he will sub out the works to Joseph is that he will still keep himself in the loop and will still visit the site regularly.. But turns out he's too busy now to even come down to see.. Luckily, Joseph is a very responsible, uncalculating and friendly person like Uncle.. In fact, the more I deal with Joseph, the more comfortable I feel around him.. In fact, I'm in much better terms with him now den I was with Uncle.. Uncle in my picture now, seems to be only the broker for the deal, or he's the highest management and I can't see him as and when I want.. LOL.. But well, thumbs up for Joseph.. He has my vote, in fact 2 votes from me and my wife.. If anyone is dealing with Uncle Soon and he's telling you he will sub your project out to a certain Joseph (or better known as "Boh-Geh"(Toothless) to Uncle Soon), don't worry... Your reno is in safe hands...
  8. Eh, the laminate file you got from Ah Wei is different from mine sia.. Urs like got alotta choices? Hahaha.. Anyways, I do agree Joseph is much more contactable den Uncle Soon.. And he's quite responsible as well.. U tell him, he will get it done for u.. And those under Joseph can don't worry about carpentry, cuz he says he only engage Ah Wei.. Anyways, Guy77, ur laminates all very bold attempts hor.. Heehee, mine all blackish, grey or white.. Hahahaha.. Shall post up pics in my T-blog once I picked my laminates.. Now still super headache, dunno wat to choose, wanna ask Ah Wei for ideas, but dunno when can meet him.. -__-
  9. Yoyo, urm, my tiles are fully up and they have ran most of the pipes in the house already.. My instant heaters and toilet bowls are up when I dropped by the day before yesterday.. Yesterday I think they didn't do much.. I suppose they'd be doing the running of the electrical wires for today.. Will be doing plastering on Friday.. Next week den can paint, cuz aircon guys will only be coming on 9 June to install the aircon.. Currently, confirming the laminates for my carpentry with Ah Wei.. Will post his drawings soon.. Had really been too busy with everything, not just reno, work etc.. -__-
  10. Sorry guys, no updates today.. Got home pretty late.. Had to go settle some payments and stuffs.. Anyways, with regards to the post quoted, any of the Ah Soon fan club members can help me? Probably list down a few rectifications you guys encountered and what are the things I really must look out for.. Just a brief list will do liao.. Cuz sumtimes I get to the house quite late with my wife, only have like 30 mins or lesser to see what they have done.. I'm also not so eagle eyed, so need help from u guys.. :/ TIA!!
  11. Hehehe.. See.. I remember.. Hahaha.. Will keep u guys updated of the carpentry work.. The hot water sure very hot one mah.. Dat's why need the mixer.. I remember for storage heater it's even hotter.. Some 20-30 degrees hotter.. It's so hot, when you turn it to full left, u can see steam! Hahaha.. I think the Rinnai Gas Heater is capped at 40 degree celsius.. Which should be sufficient for a nice warm bath.. Citygas recommended to only connect to shower points? Den basin mixers how? Hmm.. Will it be not "hot" enough to support the whole house if 4 taps are running together? Anyways, I've already decided to go with Instant heaters.. One reason being with kids around, I'm afraid sometimes I'd accidentally turn it to hot water when I'm giving my kids a bath.. Hahaha.. I think instant heaters not dat scary, since the temperature is already pre-set.. I bought the Tecno water heater, which looks quite sleek.. Wanted the Amasco one, but is's quite expensive if I didnt recall wrongly!
  12. Aubrey: Dun need jealous la.. Uncle is doing good the carpentry for u what.. Hahaha.. Uncle very "teng" u lor.. Hahaha.. stormcontrol: Wah, new flats.. Dunno cuz we all buy resale one.. Citygas heater is a gas operated central heater.. Plus point is it is instant hot water unlike storage heaters.. But it cannot be installed in the bathroom.. Must be installed either in the service balcony or kitchen.. Cannot be covered up under the cabinet.. I dun think Citygas heater needs any electricity to run.. I read something about when the tap is turned on, water flows through, it will ignite the flame and heat up the water as it passes.. I dun think there's any heater points though.. Btw, ventilation fans nt allowed in HDB rite? I wanted to install but den hor, was told it's not allowed in HDB, of course ppl still secretly do la..
  13. Anyways, been so long since I've updated my blog.. Have been so bz this week, everyday after work run here run there.. Sometimes when I get back to my place it's already 10pm+ at night.. And when I reach home it's already near midnight.. So, really very shagged out cuz next day still have to wake up at 7am, usually I sleep at 2-3am now, cuz I'm having a headache with my feature wall design.. But den again, I'd just update with some pictures of what went on this week later at night as I dun have them with me now.. Anyways, now I'm choosing colors for the painting also, having a headache with that too.. And yeah, finally decided to change my sys 3 aircon and install new ones, Toshiba sys 3 non inverter.. Going with Gain City although they are not exactly the cheapest around.. Painting's gonna be after the installation of air con though.. So, some updates of my renovation... My tiles are 95% up.. My tiler is the group with Ah Di in it.. One fat fat guy and 2 others which I dunno the names.. Went up once while they were at work and bought some cakes and drinks.. That's the only time I saw them.. Hahaha.. But I must say they did quite a good job with my tiles.. Will post up pictures of the tiled up place soon.. Anyways, waiting for the glass door for the kitchen to be up so that they can build the partition wall over it and lay the tiles.. I'd be boxing up my pipes at the balcony with tiles.. Joseph says its common nowadays ppl do that.. Anyways, I was skeptical cuz I dunno whether next time if there's any problem with the pipes, it would be troublesome, but he says he'll leave access areas on the box up part to access the pipes from outside.. So should be ok bah.. I'd be meeting with Joseph tomorrow morning at 10am to talk about the electrical points, I believe lighting points for false ceiling as well.. Also will be meeting up with my carpenter Ah Wei to talk about my carpentry.. Joseph is really a nice person as well.. I spoke to him about wanting my reno to be completed as fast as possible.. So he thought about it and decided to bypass getting Jason here to draw for me the sketches.. Ah Wei will provide me the sketches instead with measurements on site.. I think I saw Ah Wei's drawing here before (was it on familyof4's T-Blog?), so I'm not too worried about that as I think he can draw quite well.. Anyways, I think Joseph got 6 sense.. Hahaha.. I was just talking with Aubrey 2 nites ago about wanting to get Ah Wei as my carpenter.. And Joseph called me up this morning to tell me he will be getting Ah Wei to do up for my unit.. Hahahaha.. Things are falling into place nicely.. I was initially worried about my current tiles' grouting getting black as some parts of my house was not laid with the corrugated paper, the 2 bedrooms were not covered, but I can see they go to the room alot as the floors are quite dirty.. MBR only partly covered to form a walking path to the toilet, the rest of the floor are all quite dirty.. I told Joseph about it, he says nvm, if it cannot be cleaned, he will get them to dig out the grout and fill up with new grouting even though I did not do up my living/bedroom floors.. I hope though that non of the tiles are scratched.. Currently my living is covered with a mixture of corrugated and cardboxes of the tiles.. Can actually see some gaps on the floor.. I really cross my fingers that it won't be scratched.. Pardon me for my long winded post.. Hahaha..
  14. Wah, got bill $1.06 one ah.. Hahaha.. I think Gas will be cheaper, but by how much I dunno.. Depends on hw many baths u take per day, if storage heater and u only turn on the heater for awhile, (meaning everyone in the family showers together) would definitely cost lesser den if everyone showers at different times.. And as I'm using storage heater now, it's not exactly convenient.. I'm staying at my friend's EM, the storage heater is in his level 2 common bathroom, so the switch is outside the bathroom, whenever I wanna take a bath, I have to go out and turn on the switch.. Imagine for a 4 or 5 room HDB, to turn on the switch I must walk from my MBR out to the kitchen where my common bathroom is to turn on the switch.. And wait for 10 mins.. LOL.. I think gas should be better bah, cheaper I dunno.. That's what Citygas webby claims..
  15. Eh xiao jie, I want to go.. What time is it? Hahaha.. Anyways, on my side, I gonna meet up with my carpenter Ah Wei tomorrow leh.. So glad Joseph contacted Ah Wei to do my carpentry.. Meeting them both at 10am to confirm the electrical points, pumbling issues and carpentry, choose laminates and stuffs.. Hoorah.. Very happy Joseph sped things up.. He say bypass getting Jason to draw up my carpentry, just get Ah Wei to draw, will speed things up.. Hahaha.. Kk, Aubrey, Msn or Pm me hor, ur address.. I see if I can make it tomorrow.. I'd be free after 2pm only..
  16. THat seems like a good price.. I was quoted $2069 with Accoflex, no metal bracket and no free service from Gain City.. Care to share where u got ur aircon from?? I'm looking at this model 2..
  17. Wow.. Very nice.. The color scheme is very well matched.. Like pet says, very condo feel.. I noticed your toilets doesnt have any steel pipes running, rather the mixer is fixed onto the tiles itself.. Edit: The 2 sided cove lights in ur MBR is very unique! So, u're using only cove lights for that area? Can see u dun have any downlights there..
  18. Congrats!! Wow, private balcony.. *Envy* U have 2 balconies, no wonder u're removing one.. Big big living/dining area, gonna be enlarged even further with the removal of the balcony.. Hmm, no windows should be ok bah, but den if u dun use aircon all the time, u'd need to keep the balcony opened? Ur Floorplan very blurry, looks like bedroom 3 is quite small, but well, u have another study area.. Envy again.. Welcome and good luck to ur renoa dn ur handover!! Edit*: I posted another post, dunno why it didnt appear.. Anyways ur house is very nice and you used alotta glass eh.. Very nice.. So which ID are u using? Must have spent a bomb on this major overhaul.. I love ur bedroom lights.. They all go well with each other.. Frosted glass for ur private balcony.. Sui! And congrats HDB approved the extending of the toilet into part of the balcony.. Now it looks very big.. Keep the pics coming, no1's complaining.. It's nice to see the transformation dat way.. Cheers! Pinklady: Sorry, beat u to being first.. Hahaha..
  19. Hmm, I didn't think of this when I decided to place my fan near the cove lights.. Hmm, hope that it won't have the dizzy effect.. Anyways, in my earlier post, I said I ordered a Rega Fan but I've cancelled it, I chose Crestar instead.. Bought 4 48" Crestar Airvacs, 2 with light kits (4 lamps with Philips lightbulbs) and 2 without light kits.. 2 regulators and 2 remote controls.. Total slightly above $1000.. Good deal??
  20. blue_diamond: Maybe I wasn't clear.. I'd do a breakdown of costs (Rough estimates) Instant Heater Water Heater x 2 = $400 2 Way Taps x 2 = $100 Total = $500 Citygas Heater Rinnai Citygas Heater x 1 = $190 Installation for Gas Pipings to heater = $60 Rainshower set for MBR = $400 Normal shower set for common BR = $100 Mixers x 2 = $150 Total = $900 If I don't do hot water piping I'd save $200 from what I was initially quoted by Uncle Soon.. So total costs for setting up the Citygas heater will be $900 + $200 = $1100 which is $600 more den the instant heater setup.. These are just brief estimates, but figures should not deviate much.. Setting up storage heaters will most definitely be around twice as expensive to setup instant heaters.. Maybe those who has storage or gas heaters *edit* "and rainshower" can confirm this? Hahaha..
  21. As my renovation is gonna go to the critical period soon, can I have the Ah Soon fan club members help me list down the rectifications you guys have faced so that I can keep a look out for it? Hahaha.. I tried scanning through all the T-Blogs, but it takes me alot of time, especially so for those T-blogs with more den 10 pages.. Hahahaha.. Moreover, sometimes when I read, I will read on and on and it'll take me hours! Hahaha.. So, will really appreciate if I can get some help? Really paiseh.. I hope I can contribute more in the future as well..
  22. familyof4: Yup.. Seems like its getting back on track.. Joseph is boh geh lor.. I think he's a very nice person as well.. Maybe becuz he's influenced by Ah Soon? Hahaha.. gaku70: I think I'm skipping the idea and going with instant heater.. Hope I wont regret.. 2 instant heaters and 2 two-way taps sets me back by around $500.. A rainshower alone sets me back by around $400? Still have to get 2 mixers, and another shower set.. So It'll most probably set me back by $700 at least? Then there's either storage heater which will be around $200 or if I'm choosing Citygas heater, it's $190 + $60 installation.. Plus, Uncle says if I don't do the hot piping, it'll be $200 lesser.. So all in all if I choose storage/Citygas, I'd be blowing at least $600 more.. Hahaha.. Moreover, we are fine with instant heater.. So...... Think dat's decided as that..
  23. Wah, very long nv update liao.. Cuz too tired.. Hahaha.. Day 4 (Saturday, 23 May) - Nothing much going on.. A tiler by the name of Ah Di is there to smoothen the walls (apply cement?) or stuffs, to prepare for the laying of tiles! Yipee.. Day 5 (Monday, 25 May) - Tiles are up, common bathroom wall tiles are half up, kitchen also half up, MBR toilet also half up! Hahahaha.. They laid the waterproofing membrane overnight.. I guess they will be tiling the floors soon.. Joseph told me there are 4 tilers working.. I didn't have the time to go up and check but I can see the tiling job was quite nicely done up.. I have some pics but I can't upload them now.. So I'd upload them tonight.. Hahaha.. Anyways, one question.. Anyone using Citygas Heater? I wanna try it, is it really energy efficient? And can it be placed in the bathroom? Or must it be at a dry area like the kitchen? Hopefully can change the water heaters I bought from Hoe Kee for Rainshowers and mixers instead.. I think they will be more den happy.. I'm just worried how the heater will look if it can't be placed in the bathroom, seems very messy, pipes everywhere and it can't be concealed in cabinets..
  24. Hey supersimon27, I ended up buying the smaller Samsung RT58EAMT, my kitchen is simply too small to accomodate the RT72KASE, the model which I bought is already quite big.. Hahaha..
  25. blue_diamond: I think I did hear him say this to me before.. Okok, I will tell him later! Hahaha.. Yah lor, it's better I let him know den to bottle up any frustrations or unhappiness.. ocheeeng: $20 ah, hmm, I foresee anythin around $50.. Cuz I have much more.. familyof4: Hahaha, yah, workers scared of him.. He told me before.. I havent seen him ranting at the workers yet.. But I can tell he's firm on them..
