  1. Yes, there is a false wall to hold the door frame and the windows frame. We use back HDB door and the grill We have clear sliding windows without grille that stretch all the way up the ceiling. I will have to ask my dad the total cost. Rendell
  2. I think it is normal, just like buying fish ($1-$10), we check 1) left and right eyes, 2) left and right gills, 3) check the mouth 4) check the scales colour 5) check the weight 6) check got blood or not before we buy it. So anything $1mio and above is worth checking bah ;p
  3. Direct sales contracts have a 3-day cooling-off period. Contractors that carry door to door sales like clothes hanger contractor is subjected to 3-day cooling-off period as provided by law under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act. The 3-day calculation excludes Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays. A transaction is considered as a direct sales contract if it is unsolicited, or if the product or service sold was different from what was requested by the consumer.
  4. Not necessary. Unless the frame is in a bad shape.
  5. so far i feel contractors work slower then ID. Because of the higher service (middleman) fee, so normally expect service to be faster and better. "One cent for one goods." the other contractor that i have met is friendly but his laminate flooring is not appealing. plus i still have to go thru "higher management" aka my mom. she doesnt really approve of him (like choosing boyfriend for me.. -_- ) Trust our parent's 6th sense ... they are more experience to see through people well for this quotation, i must admit it is very brief. we did not discuss materials, no discussion of creativity or design.. It is normal to test whether are you a layman or expert (can eat or cannot eat) - in this case any way to buff my own knowledge so as to not appear like a carrot in front of them? admittedly i think i've already shown my noobie side to those i've met. Like what Y said, just read some more loh. Ask questions like the material they use and break down the charges to psf or pfr etc am i able to buy the floor plan from HDB? Visit here to buy online - $5 thanks for all yr help rendell! Sure. Having my study week now, quite free to help out
  6. ah all right.. i was wondering how come u are telling me so much lingo and i catch none of it. Sorry about that well for this quotation, i must admit it is very brief. we did not discuss materials, no discussion of creativity or design.. It is normal to test whether are you a layman or expert (can eat or cannot eat) i dont have my floor plan so i cant tell u whats the sizes. Need do this because they can quote you wrong price or general pricing i'll like the workmanship and price to be good cos i believe design can do with input from me. Get a contractor instead of a ID. i have been getting quotes. as to whether they are "honest", that will depend on them. After a few quotes, you will roughly know or ask them about the experience of contractors etc
  7. Aiyoh, someone have apply for ACRA's biz profile of his companies and post it there whole world to see. He must have made a lot of enemies.

SUB-TOTAL : $6,470.00 GRAND TOTAL : $20,326.80 _________________________________________________________________________ You see Aubrey, I cannot tell you whether is it cheap or expensive without the following info: 1) Materials they are using 2) Workmanships of the sub-contractors they are using 3) Design and creativity of ideas priced into the quotation 4) The dimensions I am not a contractor or ID, but I happened to be the son of a contractor. I have been preparing quotation for my dad for about 20 years for all sorts of project (big or small) since I was in Primary school. So I know a bit on the supplier, materials and labour pricing. My humble advice, the 3 inter-related factors to look out for when you are doing renovation: 1. Good Design 2. Good Price 3. Good Workmanships For example, if it is cheap, don't expect fantastic design or workmanships. If Design or Workmanship is good, don't expect price to be good. If Design is good and price is good, the workmanships may be lousy and will spoil rather quickly. Let me ask you again, what are you looking for? Design, Price or Workmanships? * I assume you can find a honest ID or contractor. Rendell
  9. I think it depends on the work required. Mine was nearly $500 bucks to shift the water/electric meter and lightings away. I guess it was expensive because HDB permit was required to shift the things. Did not use window grille but large sliding glass windows and a wooden door to contain the area.
  10. I saw it in at a few showrooms ... but that was a few years back. Currently not too popular bah.
  11. Do you mean getting a home with evening sun? or getting a blind? or costly due to physical torture from the heat?
  12. If I am not wrong, if the crack is due to external factor, for eg. crack formed because upgrading of water tank), it is town council. If the crack is interior and not due to recent construction or upgrading project, then it is HDB (considered defecting work.)
  13. That price looks fine to me. Whats the brand you are getting?
  14. Two suggestions to go about it: 1. If your sofa is that kind with removable cover, just visit any old tailor shop with the original set of the upholster and ask them to copy same design with a new cloth you choose. 2. If your sofa is old bulky leather type (which I doubt because it is bought in ikea) ask around any carpenters who can do up a new leather cover for you. Ren
  15. Hi Dean, What sort of contracting work do you specialize?
  16. Who say so? Your contractor or ID? Frame one the profit margin higher because easy to install. All kind of toilet doors will also have some problem after sometimes, it is the skill of the person who puts it up. For me, I know the sliding door one will one day kenna stuck because of the roller at the bottom or on top, my home sliding door dropped out one day when I put too hard because I was late for work. And as for the frameless, the door will drop out after some times if the contractor do not use the right hinges for heavier glass. Both got pro and cons. Best is don't install shower screen doors, just glass shower screen fixed panel... you will be too lazy to close the screen door after sometimes.
  17. Electric works required HDB approval? I know the fine is $5000, but I am not too sure whether does rework requires the license.
  18. Well for this price you can get a frameless shower screen around $400 VS
