my intention is to get jason to stop the carpenters from doing more work. tonight i will insist uncle meet me. i saw that most of u with uncle is using irex for hinges. i wasnt given that.
-
i just called jason. he said block board is actually same as solid plywood. blockboard is from msia, solid plywood from indonesia. how can they be the same? different names but still the same??? he said he will go to my unit to have a look first, then update me later. i think its simple. u tell me solid ply, give me that. i agree to pay $23k, i will pay that amt, not a cent more or less. fair and square.
-
its more of not being honest! (carpenter) and i did ask if he uses solid plywood, uncle said yes. apparently this guy didnt. i cannot take it alr, im gonna start to bug uncle. been too nice to not bug him. i will now.

is my 23k a tight budget that doesnt allow for that?i rather channel resources into kitchen and skip the others if thats the case.

i am meeting uncle tonight, what do u need and what shld i say to him? -
i wanted PD initially, but since so much bad reviews about PD, i switched to bifold. but my heart is still with PD.
-
ok this is not helping... i am sitting here at work fuming over the quality of work. should have trusted my instinct abt the carpenter. grr.
-
as the topic above, if blockboard is used for kitchen cabinet, is the quality not as good??

HUH!! acid wash to be done before cabinets go up? wa i am really boiling now. not only was there no acid wash, they didnt even have the decency to sweep the debris from the concrete support and just went ahead to install it onto the debris. i am so gonna faint now.
-
sigh. i think i will have to really debate with uncle. i am just hoping he wont tell me that the blockboard is solid plywood now that i am informed. how about other wood works? are tv console/wardrobes meant to use blockboard or solid plywood?
-
best part is, after the laminate is on, it doesnt even feel solid at all. no offence but i dont trust this ah mei guy assigned to do my cabinets. i will call jason now and ask him. is blockboard better or solid plywood? (i am guessing solid ply)
-
ya after reading, i realised they used blockboard. so... what happened to solid plywood eh??? familyof4, think u better watch with an eagle eye on the material used. uncle told me solid plywood. i shall ask him later and if he can tell me its solid plywood, i will show him this.

just called uncle. he said the worktop is a standard thickness of 20mm / 2cm and the "legs" is 15mm / 1.5cm. and the weight of the granite worktop is borne by the legs and not the worktop. somehow still worrying to know that what is to support my worktop is 0.5cm thinner. he said i can stand on it after its installed to try it out myself. im still not assured somehow. i told him to come over at night 8/9 plus to take a look, today i will chase him. judging from the pic, i can say my material is not solid plywood. if so and uncle did say he uses solid plywood, wonder what's his explanation here. haiyer!
-
shogen, i think granite worktop weights quite heavily. i am not certain about that! i feel ks cos looks aside, it should be lasting. that is my top concern. fannie, its around the size of my thumb, say 1.5cm? quite worrying.
-
ya i think i will sms to growler now.

in this case since uncle said he uses solid plywood but this is just normal plywood should i accept? uncle was over at my place late at night with someone viewing my place. i asked him if the table top is too thin, he said its ok,standard. not sure if its cos i have not placed worktop over or what but i dont like it much. rondy, here's the pics. its soooo thin. i dont care im gonna tell uncle to make it thicker. any thoughts on it?
-
yes I intend to get uncle to change it after hearing the responses here. one other thing, I'm really quite disappointed with my kitchen cabinets. it feels real thin. esp e table top. not sure if it can bear e weight of granite top on it. the side is also too thin for my liking. the width is merely e size of my thumb placed vertically.
-
yup i am doing, just not up yet. having some queries on thickness of my cabinets and exact materials used.
-
my kitchen cabinet. the space on the left of the drawer is where the gas cylinder is deposited. on the left of that, its supposed to be my sauce + spice rack but i think it seems oversized!! is it?
-
he said the ball bearing track is top track only, no bottom track and more hardy. not sure how true is that... gotta use it to see how it works out.
-
QNS! is this solid plywood? doesnt look like it to me.. feels like those compressed wooden grains/chip then finished with laminate. very ikea style.

some carpentry reno blues kicking in despite being happy. kinda evens out my mood eh. i really have no idea why but the carpenters did not even help to sweep out the dirt and dust under the shelf before installing the kitchen cabinet OVER it. such common sense and still nth done. uncle was at my place earlier and he did comment about the fact that they didnt. well its all too late now. i should have taken leave for the entire week just to supervise this. and maybe i can sweep it myself. *fumes at the carpenters* posting up the annoyances i face. seriously i understand that the current way they run the wiring for this is cos the point on the other side (toilet) is directly there but i wished they would have moved it over to the white tiles to make it less obvious. this really takes the cake and pissed me off like crazy. never mind that he got the switches upside down, never mind that he wired it wrongly so that it switches on the wrong lights, but cant u at least take out the **** scotch tape before u get all drilling happy and fix the switch OVER the tape? yes this is done by that same guy who told me to buy my own switches. great job. (ya im over it now) looks quite obvious and not exactly nice but oh wells.. my concern is that the base of the light is slanted. in the event that the light spoils and i need to replace it, will it damage the ceiling? (yes the shop i got this from sold me a low grade light that after i screw out the bulb, the metal contact point part within the base actually came off. the material used is so lousy, i could fold it into half with no strength) the person who came to install brought the wrong glass for me. i wanted those with the wire mesh embedded not this. uncle said its easily changed and will be changed soon.

uncle mentioned bifold is better than PD tho.. how come u are going for PD?
-
oh my i love the combi of wood laminates plus the furn u got... so cosy. SIGHHHH. *Dreams of laminates*
