ya gaku, my acid wash also to be done after carpentry tho some prefer to do acid wash first then carpentry up followed by a general cleaning. as for the wood issue, as confirmed by also my uncle who is a carpenter, i believe him and he did mention blockboard is also solid plywood. so to put to all fears to rest, maybe for those who are due for carpentry works, just let uncle use jiu cheng gao for sink area, should be fine.

haiyer u got ah wei so lucky.. my rectifications are also done by ah mei cos uncle wants him to be responsible and he said no one would want to pick up after another. he better not try to be funny. i will be watching with EAGLE eyes. i'll PM u!

i think we may not get song cho in the end.. out of budget again. the spice rack is approx almost $300. i passed by some other store and saw this brand called kris with stainless steel racks and lifetime warranty too, $40. hahahaha. no $$$$!

oh uncle said to undermount with granite must bring it to the factory, top up $120 and get machine to do the cut out cos its hard for them to do by hand, edges not smooth, hard to curve it to my sink. we will see how it goes later.

i am back from a good talk with uncle! (had to tell me mom not to interrupt my flow of thoughts every now and then. ) basically he has given me assurance that he will speak to the carpenter guy to discuss my tv console and he can replace it for me. i feel its a waste to throw somehow. uncle is quite comical!! he told he did not expect the recession into my room to be so major (so thick) n was surprised. we discussed the remainder of the carpentry work due e.g: bookcase, study table & dinning table. i can forgo the bookcase and buy one from vhive if need be. now i got to plan real hard for the room. uncle kept throwing me ideas for my room, much more than jason did. he did inspect the place and told me whatever is not good, not nice, he will change it for him. oh i sure hope he will not forget about me! my landlord has kindly agreed to let me extend my time here till 31st may so that uncle dont need to rush for me. acid wash will be done tmr, elder goh (for some reason he seem to appear at my place a lot) will come help my mom to an shen. i believe he will be rolling/throwing pineapples for me. and there i was with my friends thinking happily about using the pineapple to make pineapple tarts with my new oven. turns out that 1) i have no oven yet from all the complications in carpentry at the moment & 2) the pineapple is not supposed to be eaten! so wasted! well anyhoo, my auntie and cousin will be over at my place from sat - sun (they are from msia) to make the new house more re nao and lively! so for those popping over, a good time is prolly afternoon onwards till about 6pm! finally a load off my shoulders. communicated with uncle and he mentioned the problems he faced. for the remaining carpentry, i will have to be more decisive and sit jason down to talk so things cant go wrong. i will personally draw out for him my ideas too. hope that helps to minimize errors that results in wastage. p.s: i think a lot of forummers are affected by my comments about ah mei. uncle says that he wont be handing him projects anymore. to be fair, my wardrobes are good, i love them in fact. its just the hinges he uses that uncle said to change all to irex with damper. and of course that wood issue i was kicking up a big fuss about. all in all, most of it is solved. uncle will still get ah mei to rectify to give him a taste of rectification works. but he made this enigmatic comment that if he needs to top up for the rectifications, he will. i think its cos he briefly mentioned that jason didnt communicate with him properly. brothers....

dont want old chang kee. i just want uncle to come and settle the tv console for me, tell me whats up with my supposed bookcase and study table. he's never gotten back to me, more and more is done to the tv console. sealing it, removing protective firm etc etc. makes it even harder now for him to take it back. but it will not be fair to me. fannie, advice u not to rest on your laurels yet, initially up till painting its ok, every smoothly and on the ball, up till carpentry all works are sort of stuck there. moving home with no study table yet. threw away book case so dunno where to place my encyclopedia. luckily i kept my old table so can use it first. getting fed up with him flying my kite from ytd till today even with calls asking him if he is coming. stuck with my own schedule, cant go out as and when i like since he made me wait from morning till evening now. im so fed up, its affecting my mood to tell him to tear down that tv console thats causing me this whole stuck in the middle feeling.

it has been delayed! my granite top and my s/s backing not up yet, acid wash to be done tomorrow. today jason came by to measure the granite for me and told me that with granite worktop i can only top mount my sink as the granite will be cut by hand, to undermount they cant cut the granite to curve it. true? my old sink ar? wow its not top or bottom, its just the BIG piece of thing with a sink attached to my wall.

oh no wonder! luckily i dont have the luxury of choice, my toilet too small for glass door. i think uncle is a bit sian. not sure if its me being too sensitive i think he is avoiding me about my tv console. haiyer. i just really dont like that i wasnt given what i wanted. its the disappointment that hits so hard. :/ i hope you're right and im just imagining. i dont really wanna call him to see if he can come to my place today. my acid wash has been pushed back till tmr. think i have to go to ikea today to source for sauce racks.

rondy, cannot say dont buy plasma. to be honest, an advocated by makers all over, plasma is actually better than LCD for watching tv. lcd, if u notice, is more for computer screens. but of cos technology is advancing so lcd is better and can handle tv i.e fast moving images non stop. and of cos the same principle applies to plasma. technology has advanced and with the go green movement, plasma tvs now have the technology to be less energy consuming. so there's a give and take here. LCD less power consumption = cheaper bills but image quality may lose out to plasma Plasma higher power consumption = better tv viewing experience but slightly more ex bills (pls be aware that plasma is prone to burn in, meaning a static image will get burned onto the screen if left on for too long. e.g: chan 5 logo on top right is a still image but dont worry, technology has improved, not much of such issues anymore! plus there's commercials all the time, no image is left still on the screen for too long) if u touch both LCD and plasma panels, plasma is always hotter but to me its acceptable hotness. use this as a rough gauge to see if there's energy saving technology found in the tv. esp helpful in those places like audio house /courts etc since tvs are left running the whole time. pinkie yes there is a minumum viewing distance. just like my analogy of the movie screens earlier. can check this site for more on viewing distance. feel free to drop in any qns for me since i have already done TONS of research to be able to spew out all this to u now. plus it helps that i like gadgets and technology stuff. fannie i think the reason why LCD is giving your eyes strain like pinkie is due the screen brightness. i believe your LCD tv is bought some time ago before this new function is implemented. it can be found on the ipod touch, some mobile phones etc. there's a sensor that detects your environment and makes the necessary changes to screen brightness for you to prevent your eyes from too much glaring images. if u are buying tv, just ask yourself what is your budget first, and work from there cos there's tons of tvs out there and when i was buying mine i was blue in the face from looking at so many tvs. try not to be swayed too much by sales pitch unless that guy is sincere. from budget, work out the size u are looking at too big. dont buy too big or too small. a good size taking into consideration your viewing distance is good. too near gives u headache, too far not shiok anymore. blue not really a gathering cos i doubt i can move back yet to be able to host a decent get together. its more for those who want to see to steal some ideas (not much to steal.. i am doing little carpentry) and perhaps for those in bugis or town and would like to drop by! the actual party with uncle will be at a later time.

jason came up just now to take measurements for my s/s backing in kitchen and the granite worktop. i did not speak to him about the tv console. i prefer to go direct to uncle. i totally agree with what everyone says. jason did mention that they can change for me but sometimes they make a loss. i understand that on my own without him saying it. i dont want to get into a debate with him by bringing out my opinions so i just agreed with him. lets hope i can meet up with uncle later to decide the outcome.

blue, when u go look at TVs, pls ask them to turn on chan 5/8 for u to watch, not those sample disc nor blu ray disc. im sure u watch free to air more than blu ray dvd right? i can frankly tell u that for all big screens, chan 5/8 quality loses out to my current CRT tv, 29". why? aspect ratio of viewing. the picture from chan 5 is sent in a certain ratio. when u buy 42", u have to resample image to fit that screen. so if u stretch something out, of cos u lose a little quality. LG? i bought the new LG model. model in my sig below. i pick that cos when viewing the sets at courts, even sony bravia with chan 5 looks like ****. in the end i pick one to my budget, and looks decent among all. and pls keep in mind there's a optimum viewing distance for watching TV. the same idea from movies apply here. would u want to watch from first row from screen or middle? so if u think 42" is nice cos its big, pls consider your viewing distance. too many ppl have been buying bigger tvs cos they think its more.. shiok. even i kinda regret getting 42" now, a 40" or 37" will be good enough too. hope this helps.

ya thats why on one hand i cant bring myself to be mad at uncle! i spoke to ah mei once and thats it, i didnt want to talk to him ever again. he was ok but just sound so ah beng with my requests. :/ uncle is being nice by promising me to move in on 28 may (today btw but acid wash not done. if it is done in the morning later, can i move it or have to wait for a while for whatever chemical to disperse etc?) i know he will feel paisei if he cannot carry out his promise. i dont want to make his life hard too. i will just talk to him abt the tv console and see how. hope they dont do acid wash first.

to be fair to uncle, its his carpenter that did it wrongly. cos the drawing was given to him. i dont see any protusion in it. even uncle can tell me eh why like that. what do u mean why like tt!! must be the carpenter's fault. if he did it wrongly i wont hesitate to ask him to tear down to give me what i want. i told uncle point blank ytd, i said, drawings are provided, verbally communicated too. so why turn out like that? if the carpenter did not follow, its his fault so ask him to change it for me at his cost! have to agree with smallboy. i think the flow is something like this. uncle get job - wrong stuff done - uncle rectify = lesser or no profit or worse, pay out from own pocket. the work he does will not justify his hardwork in running around. its sad tho. not sure if uncle will give the order to redo the tv console. i really hope he can step up his QC so that he wont lose money. just heard from jason that he was in small claims court against this painting company that did such a lousy job where the owners told him, "the paint job done makes me wanna vomit". uncle fired them and did not pay out the last $700 hence the small claims. working hard is not the way to go, working smart is. :]

whats the thickness? i measured mine at 1.5cm. my friend still say its too thick. i have seen thinner ones. maybe 1cm. nice. unobtrusive.

but over time there is wear and tear right? how to gauge things like workmanship when applying silicon? still toying with either top or under mount sinks.

mine very messy with the carpentry. i think uncle losing money to rectify. poor thing. he needs PA to follow him around and to take down request and contact the various vendors/sub con. u better insist on that to be changed cos i think need to be hacked. pls do it before carpentry is up!
