  1. The best way is to check with the OpenNet techinician on the location. If you read the booklet that comes in your mail box, it does state that its best to have ut near your television, if not at least to a location that has a power plug.
  2. Nope, I didn't run to where my television was as it covered by carpentry. I spoke to the Opennet folks & its not a requirement that you run it to your television. As long as you run it to an area that has a power plug is sufficient. I plan to install a power plug in the shoe cabinet at a later date when OpenNet is up, which is likely not so soon in the future.
  3. What are the Newedge laminates? I just choose from the catalogue so am not certain of the name. You need to check with your contractor on the sized of the laminates. Its not common but its available. However, my recommendation is that if you have $$$, its best to use Formica, which is 2 or 3 times more pricy because of the quality. Since I am on a budget, I went for the run-of-the-mill type of laminates.
  4. Thank you misswookie Yes, my hinges are from Blum. They are not cheap but well worth the money They cost about $150 per pair. Wavy patterns on glossy laminates cannot be helped. However, you can consider using a ticker laminate to reduced the glossy effect like what I have done but regardless, it will still happen. Since my cabinets are all white, the wavy effect is not that obvious unless you look at it directly or shine a light directly on the cabinets. Hope I manage to answer your queries.
  5. Thank you gracekaclouds I did not do anything to my bombh shelter as my domestic helper is using it as her room. All I did was painted in a colour similar to the walls.
  6. If I remember correctly, its Legrand
  7. This completes my reno journey. It has been a wonderful experience for us & I hope everyone of you have as much fun reading it as I have blogging it. The most important thing in achieving a peaceful & stress free reno experience is in the selection of a contractor that you feel comfotable with & within your budget. $$$ may be important but it should not be the sole deciding factor. Bear in mind that these people need to earn their money somewhere, so unfortunatly the logic that if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys still prevails. What is important is to look for someone whose pricing is reasonable rather than cheap. I feel that if you have a good contractor you don't really need to hired an ID. Having said this, you should go "shopping" to gather ideas on how you will like to design your home so as to get a clearer picture when speaking to a contractor. So here's wishing everyone a great Reno experience!!!
  8. Last few pictures... Wall of "Fame" + Views of our Curtains (Day & Night) An entire wall filled with our family photos. So indulgent! Day & Night Curtains Last View of the Living Room
  9. Sofa Remember the picture below that I painted while still staying in my rented apartment which I wanted to hang along the bomb shelter wall. Well, it looks better above our sofa so we decided to hang it up there now.
  10. Finally!!! Our Living Area As mentioned, we hate clutter & we kinda downgrade to a smaller apartment so our greatest delimma was where to store all our items, especially the high items, like the ladder, laundry rack... So here it is folks... Closed Open Sesame Part 1 Open Sesame Part 2
  11. We went to Choo Chiang Marketing along Veerasamy Road. Can't remember the exact cost now. Think its about $20.
  12. MY FSM do not have any concerns. I suppose each to its own
  13. Room to Work - Hubby's Office This is the 2nd last room to showcase. Nothing truly exciting happening in this room as most of the furniture are from Ikea. Entrance to Office Side View Desk
  14. Doorbell Hubby & I went high & low, up & down searching for a non descript doorbell. Nothing too obiang or too large or well... nothing too obiang. We finally found this doorbell. The least obiang of them all & also tiny, like me!
  15. OpenNet - Major Headache To tell you the truth, I hate Openet. My home has ABSOLUTELY NO EXPOSED piping or cabling or anything of that sort. The issue with Opennet is that they only made their presence felt after I completed my reno & the problem was that I do not have any false ceiling !! SO how? Well, no choice... A picture tells a thousand words... Thru the door along the beam into the shoe cabinet Think ours is the shortest & easiest job they did so far...
  16. Problem Solved... Well Kinda... Remember this picture whereby I have my very own Japanese Railway Line in my back yard?!? Then Now They kinda salvage the situation by painting it white! The good news is that everything in that yard is WHITE! So it goes with well... practically everything From my dryer to my washing machine to my 4 laundry bins!
  17. The Smallest Dishwasher You Can FIND Ever since I saw my MIL mini dishwasher in Australia, it became my crusade to find a similar version. This is much more practical than a normal size dishwasher for our small kitchen & also a neat freak like me. I finally managed to find one that fits nicely under our deep single bowl Rubine sink Closed Open Sesame
  18. Our kitchen is still works-in-progress. Though all my drawers are Blum, I have yet to go purchase the interior sorting trays yet! So I am really embarrass to show pictures of my countertop with the knives exposed, though the knives cost us close to $1K BLUM Hod & Hood We didn't want a stainless steel backing as its goona be tough to clean without causing minor scratches (as advised by Dennis). We also wanted to have a writing platform. I often write notes of reminders on the glass backing for my maid so she can remember stuff. Another View
  19. My Awesome (as far as I am concern ) Concealed Kitchen In order to achieve a neat & clean look, all my electrical appliances are hidden behind the cabinets. Only my fridge, hood & hob is exposed. Many of you may be asking why I do not wish to get a concealed fridge. Well, the answer is simple... We are unable to find a 6 door fridge that is concealed. And we are delighted with this fridge made in Japan Closed Open Sesame
  20. Open Concept White Kitchen Since the Pinnacle@Duxton is really tiny as compared to the 1600 sq ft we are renting previously. we decided to knock down the wall to our extremely small kitchen to create a bigger space. We also decided not to have a dining table & incorporate a six seater dining table into our Kitchen in order to NOT to clutter the house. We both hate clutter & I am a nazi when it comes to clutter so everything must be hidden behind close doors. This is the view of our open concept kitchen as you enter the home... There are altogether 6 chairs especially designed by our friend who is a furniture designer in Bali. Since we hate clutter & there is only four of us in the house, only four chairs are "display", the other two chairs are in my hubby's office. Another view of our Kitchen cum Dining area.
  21. Shoe Cabinets Finally have time to take photos to post on the last leg of my reno journey. For the benefit of those who do not stay at Pinnacle@Duxton, the "area" where there circuit box is located is actually concealed behind wooden doors, like the picture below. However, we got Dennis to convert it to a shoe cabinet! This is how it looks like with the doors close. This is how it looks like with the doors open As you can see, its mostly my shoes & some of my hubby's shoes. So... we created more cabinets under the window for our daughter's shoes, some of my hubby's shoes & also odds & ends.
  22. GC did my neighbour's aircon & they regretted it big time! GC did not do any consultation with them on how they wish to run the trucking & piping & they did everything in one day. GC also didn't bother to find out the best way to run the piping & piping but just did it in the way that was the easiest. When they finish it was so badly done that my neighbour was so upset with them but they say all the houses in our place can only run the trucking & piping the way GC did it. When my neigbour complain to me, I though her what GC said was a bunch of rubbish. My aircon guy, my contractor, my carpenter & my hubby actually had a discussion prior to the running of the trucking & piping. The discussion was extremely detailed & long so that the aircon guy knows where to run the aircon such that the trucking/piping is hidden behind carpentry. The location of the aircon was also discussed. In areas where the trucking cannot be hidden, there was a wind whirl of discussions to ensure everthing is "tuck" away nicely. This process took nearlu 2 hours as hubby is very particular about the look of the enitre house. Finally after everything was confirmed, the aircon guy first do the trucking/piping. After thate we when to check on his work. It was 95% well done except for a grey pipe running along the floor which we hated. Further brain storming later, the grey pipe is gone, hidden behind carpentry. After we are happy aout everything, they installed the aircon just before we move in. When my neighbour saw what an awesome job my aircon did for us, he insist that the GC guy run the trucking/piping the same way. The GC refuse to do it as gave all kinds of excuses that its too much work for them to redo, you can't re lay the trucking, etc. My neighbours refuse to pay them so they had no choice but to redo everything them all over again. I have also heard the same thing happening with others who hired GC. They only go down to the owners place once & start drilling without thinking on the best way to lay the pipes so its the least obstrusive or discuss with the owners on what they will like to do. GC prices are also not that cheap. In fact my price was $50 more that GC bulk purchase price for Pinnacle@Duxton owners. I rather pay the extra $50 for an ease of mind & less stress!
  23. I am using City Gas for my Rain shower & thus far am happy with the water pressure.
